Westminstenders: a feature of the system not a bug

RedToothBrush · 25/11/2020 16:02

Tests on the new queuing system in Kent have revealed that lengthy tail backs are a feature not a bug.

We should get used to them because thats normal not the system malfunctioning, but the planned system working as designed.

Today we have found out that there's no money left. The economy is fucked. And tomorrow we will probably all be in T3 with the Isles of Wight, the tip of Cornwall and inner Westminster the only places left in T1.

Christmas has apparently been 'saved' though. Well if you are dumb and lacking in functional brain cells its 'saved'. Trade for Christmas is already thoroughly goosed and indoor family gatherings may come with a extra side of covid. The BBC have done an epic job of 'doommongering project fear' style graphics on this wonderful subject.

Tis the season to be jolly. Jolly fucked.
In further frictionless transport news, a different address to process ATA carnets when using Holyhead. Seamless as ever.

www.gov.uk/guidance/moving-goods-through-the-port-of-holyhead-with-an-ata-carnet
From 1 January 2021, the Port of Holyhead cannot process ATA Carnets, so you'll need to go to Roadking Truckstop

Roadking Truckstop

Is that in between the crematorium and the dildo store ?

ListeningQuietly · 07/12/2020 16:11

why will the port no longer process ATA ?
Its one of the oldest and widespread customs documents
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATA_Carnet
It predates the UK being in the EEC
WHY

Why did the UK pull out of Euratom ?

Spite or mind boggling incompetence would be my guess.

SabrinaThwaite · 07/12/2020 16:22

Perhaps they don’t have space for the carnet office anymore?

Jason118 · 07/12/2020 16:31

Who knows why in this mad world. Logic seems of secondary importance.

The most common phrase in the govt release on moving stuff between GB and NI/EU is.........

More guidance will be published about this as soon as possible.

Interesting speculation that it suits Boris cause to now have a no deal, and then sneak an even worse deal past parliament in February/March (presumably as his swansong of statesmanship before he fucks off).

Peregrina · 07/12/2020 17:03

Can a Worse deal be better than No Deal?

What I am pretty sure of is that he will clear off asap.

DGRossetti · 07/12/2020 17:08

Be aware that at this point when we talk of the benefits of "deal" or "no deal" we are only referring what is good for Boris and the boys. There is no form of Brexit that is good for the UK.
veeeeh · 07/12/2020 17:08

Am looking on from little ole Ireland, and quite frankly I am disgusted with this Westminster Administration. Fed up of their hubris and exceptionalism. Really am. My little country will suffer greatly from no deal if it happens.

But I have hope that as a member of the EU we will be looked after.

I do realise that a huge number of people in UK do not support the current shenanigans, and I salute those who don't, thank you.

And of course Barnier, Macron and the EU as a whole will be blamed left right and centre for the disaster that Brexit is. Self inflicted, but you know yourselves that blame will never be attached to the decision makers and their motives either.

Keep the faith.

DGRossetti · 07/12/2020 17:14

Well, this is the EUs moment to prove it was all worth it. It's curious that Ireland hasn't been the focus of as much ire as it might have been in the UK. I suspect even the most braindead of Brexiteers has twigged that blaming Ireland because the EU is behind it is almost a complete contradiction of how they sold Brexit.

Meanwhile, to the rest of the world, seeing how the EU has helped and shielded Ireland from the worst of Brexit isn't a bad thing.

And of course Ireland can rely on support from the incoming US administration - who may even have provided some advice and support already. If they have you know we'd never hear about it in the UK. Unless Deadwood Redwood chooses to write it up in his blog.

Peregrina · 07/12/2020 17:15

I do realise that a huge number of people in UK do not support the current shenanigans, and I salute those who don't, thank you.

I have taken part in a number of zoom conferences recently and the constant refrain is "What do we do about it?" We know that this Government is made up of a bunch of self-serving shites, but how does telling ourselves that over and over again help us get rid of them?

DGRossetti · 07/12/2020 17:16

Sticks and stones etc. The entire weight of the UK press isn't going to have much, if any effect in the EU. Fuck it, I hardly read much UK press these days.

veeeeh · 07/12/2020 17:23

It is so good to see support here. I don't know how this will end up, but hopefully with the backing of Biden and the EU, my country will survive ok. I don't want to sound superior or anything, but our current Government is miles ahead of Westminster in diplomacy and efficacy in these difficult times.

We are opening up more frequent sea crossings direct to Dunkirk and Cherbourg in order to by pass the Farage Garage in Kent etc.

Feeling so despondent. And as for that woman Patel who wanted to starve us into submission, well Trevelyan during the Famine comes to mind. It is absolutely unspeakable, but it seems that anything goes now, and few care anymore as the bad behaviour is just so frequent.

mrslaughan · 07/12/2020 17:26

Someone asked about chicken and egg supply with the avian flu...... I have always thought come March/April with just Brexit that there will be supply issues.... because the two major breeder companies (Aviagen and cobb) produce their day olds in Europe and they come to uk via truck. Day olds can only be transported for a certain amount of time before you start having massive mortality..... I doubt that any hatchery would ship day olds knowing they may be held up in the ports.
With eggs It's 18 weeks from DO to point of lay - and even then the flocks won't be in full production. Farmers run a program emptying sheds - cleaning them and then restocking. I would think none will be planning to restock in January. You can keep flocks on to keep laying - but they are considered uneconomic- so that will lead to further price increases. (If supermarkets resist that - they will just not do it, leading to shortages)
Meat chicken - is about 3 months - again same issue with day olds.
Add to that the risk of flocks having to be slaughtered because of avian flu - chicken and eggs could be in very short supply without farmers being able to get day olds across the channel. And that's if the hatcheries have enough fertilised eggs (at the right generation) to hatch for the uk to replenish flocks.
And that's before you consider feed costs - the vast majority of the ingredients are imported.

And before clav says fly them - yes you can- but they require specific handling - expertise that no-one really has in this region.... and extra cost - even if there is the capacity (which I suspect will be in high demand)

mrslaughan · 07/12/2020 17:28

Oh - and isotopes..... I think PPE debacle has shown us that expertise is not a pre-requisite for securing a government contract ..... what's the betting if they have organised it, it's gone to a Tory mate - who has said -"what can be so hard about that- just throw them in a truck"....

DGRossetti · 07/12/2020 17:28

Someone asked about chicken and egg supply with the avian flu.

It reads like there should be a joke following that ....

TurquoiseBaubles · 07/12/2020 17:36

I've been watching this and the previous threads from afar (Ireland) and would like to thank you all for keeping me more up to date that the so-called news!

Going back to the Holyhead instructions, I've noticed that the RoadKing Truckstop that every lorry has to go to is open from 7 am to 10 pm. Bearing in mind that ferries arrive throughout the night, presumably they will all have to queue until it deigns to open.

In fact, Stena and Irish Ferries ships arrive at 2.30 and 2.40 am. The instructions also refer to sometimes having to go to the Truckstop on the way to the port - trucks heading for the 8 am ferries will, presumably, have to check in before 10 pm the night before.

One might almost think that no-one has thought this through.

DGRossetti · 07/12/2020 17:38

Isn't it interesting how few people there are now defending Brexit in any way at all. Not just here. Everywhere.

TurquoiseBaubles · 07/12/2020 17:38

I've also just today received an email relating to a parcel I ordered and which was dispatched from Germany over a week ago, scheduled for arrival today. Apparently it is somewhere near Rotterdam in a queue and is unlikely to arrive in Ireland for at least another week.

ListeningQuietly · 07/12/2020 18:21

DH has just ordered his Christmas present to himself on Ebay
it is coming from Italy
I wonder when it will arrive Sad

pussycatinboots · 07/12/2020 18:29

LQ 2022, on a Wednesday afternoon.
tbh, it's probably a more accurate forecast than you'd get from Hermes.

ListeningQuietly · 07/12/2020 18:34

pussycat
I hope not.
2020 has been utterly shit for him. I had hoped that a treat that he chose that we will both enjoy would have helped at the end of the year Sad

pussycatinboots · 07/12/2020 18:38

LQ could he get it in touch with the supplier and get it sent airmail? I know it would cost more, but it might be worth it.

ListeningQuietly · 07/12/2020 18:39

Ebay. Already shipped ....
But I'm an optimist.
It will all be fine
Xmas Smile

bellinisurge · 07/12/2020 18:47

@veeeeh , for what it's worth, I'm so fucking sorry I can't begin to express it.
