Australia deal = no deal effectively. Quite annoyed with the PM smirking though his speech as well. Seemingly uncaring about what he's inflicting on people. I do believe people in 2016 weren't voting for no deal. I know it's happening anyway, but it's a cheek to try to blame the EU for it imo.

@ListeningQuietly

What will Boris do if Joe gets in ? Same as he'll do it Trump wins count down the days till the end of Transition and resign
Yup, agree. What a mess. And the Guardian recently had an article on Greater Manchester and previous labour supporters who voted for BJ because of Brexit. And now they are moaning about lack of support and understanding from the govt. What were they thinking?

Clavinova, the whole vote leave connection with Cummings hasn't been severed actually. I do wonder why you are so energetically defensive of all the corrupt shenanigans.

What can I say? I happened to read this BBC report two weeks ago;

"Cambridge Analytica was "not involved" in the EU referendum, says the Information Commissioner."

"A three-year probe into the misuse of personal data, centring around the activities of the firm, has now ended."

How murky is this....

bylinetimes.com/2020/10/24/million-government-ppe-deals-hotel-carpeting-company/

A carpeting company with £20,000 in assets is awarded contracts worth £5.3M for PPE.

There will undoubtedly be a trail back to someone in the Govt.

"Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock alike have stubbornly resisted calls from opposition MPs to explain peculiar contracts. This is despite them giving £13.8 billion to private sector firms for the procurement of PPE.
This includes at least £364 million worth of deals awarded to firms with links to the Conservative Party – including Conservative politicians. And then there are the millions of pounds which have been given to outsourcing giants with questionable records. Meanwhile, the Government continues to dodge accountability."

There will undoubtedly be a trail back to someone in the Govt.

But they haven't found one yet? What connection do PestFix have with the government - I missed that one as well?

"None of the contracts went to competitive tender, due to the Government invoking an EU legal clause allowing for streamlined procurement in an emergency."

"Loophole" (their article) -

I think it's wrong of Byline Times to describe this as a "loophole" - Republic of Ireland's Covid tracker app development;

"Public sector projects aren’t Nearform’s usual market" ...

"Unlike in normal times, Nearform did not have to go through the lengthy tender process, an emergency situation that is provided for under tender regulations."

Oh dear, more bad news from PestFix.

Not only were there FFP3 masks not fit for purpose, seems like their FFP2 masks were similarly “non compliant”.

Remind me, how much taxpayers’ cash has been spaffed on this?

The product in your link is described as a KN95 Non-Medical face mask - was the recall notice sent to commercial clients?

Have the Good Law Project established yet whether any of the face masks supplied to DHSC by PestFix were non-compliant?

I see that the Finnish government purchased 2 million face masks found not to be suitable for hospital use (although apparently possible to use in residential care homes), the Dutch authorities recalled 1.3 million face masks, Spain 100,000 masks and 600,000 rapid testing kits and Canada recalled one million masks - for example;

www.euroweeklynews.com/2020/04/17/spains-minister-of-health-recalls-100000-defective-masks-made-in-china/
www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-canada-says-one-million-face-masks-from-china-failed-to-meet-proper/

Interesting (and very long!) piece in the Guardian from April, although obviously with a political slant, and we now know that the EU procurement offer didn't actually deliver any PPE until at least June/July;

SabrinaThwaite · 24/10/2020 20:03

PestFix supplied masks to their customers as being FFP2 compliant.

And they are not.

It doesn’t matter that the FFP2 masks are “non-medical grade” (although PestFix has already admitted that there FFP3 masks are only FFP1), it’s a company selling mislabelled and inadequate PPE.

But please do keep defending them, your whataboutery is meaningless, it’s not my taxes paying for Finnish / Dutch / Spanish PPE.

bylinetimes.com/2020/10/23/new-evidence-connects-johnson-gove-and-cummings-to-cambridge-analytica/

Here you go. A link between CA and central government people like Johnson, Cummings, Gove etc.

It does matter because you referred to "taxpayers’ cash".

Could you summarise the link - it's not very clear? Perhaps the mainstream media will pick up on it.

SabrinaThwaite · 24/10/2020 20:13

Have the Good Law Project established yet whether any of the face masks supplied to DHSC by PestFix were non-compliant?

Has the Government published any information on the compliance or otherwise of any of the PPE supplied under its non-competitive tendering process?

Given that the Government is (in breach of its legal requirements) many months late in publishing details of these tenders what do you think?

How about all of those PestFix isolation suits that were ordered? Last heard of, they were in storage?

ListeningQuietly · 24/10/2020 20:13

The NAO are still working on the significant ways in which the current government have broken the principles laid down in statute and guidance

their future reporting schedule is comprehensive

and hopefully in this one instance
lessons will be learned

Clavinova · 24/10/2020 20:17

Given that the Government is (in breach of its legal requirements) many months late in publishing details of these tenders what do you think?

Nevertheless;
"Law360, London (August 18, 2020, 6:05 PM BST) -- A London judge refused Tuesday to force the U.K. government's health department to hand over extra information about contracts it entered into with a pest control company to provide COVID-19 personal protective equipment, ruling the details were irrelevant to the underlying dispute."

"Judge Nerys Jefford denied a disclosure application from The Good Law Project, a not-for-profit campaign group, as it seeks a judicial review over a tender process that resulted in PestFix scoring a multimillion-pound contract to procure PPE for front-line health staff."

"It seems to me this is a fishing expedition in relation to other contracts not relevant to the current proceedings," the judge said."

Waste of donations to the Good Law Project?

SabrinaThwaite · 24/10/2020 20:18

Yes, of course it matters - it’s £350m of taxpayers cash being paid for face masks and other PPE to a company that has twice admitted selling non-compliant, sub-standard face masks.

Clavinova · 24/10/2020 20:22

SabrinaThwaite

I shall await with interest the outcome of the case/judicial review. No doubt you think the governments of Finland, the Netherlands, Spain and Canada are corrupt as well?

SabrinaThwaite · 24/10/2020 20:27

Ah, more whataboutery.

Why is the Government failing to publish its contract award notices within 30 days?

Clavinova · 24/10/2020 20:30

Why is the Government failing to publish its contract award notices within 30 days?

If I recall correctly - administrative delay due exceptional circumstances was cited - i.e. coronavirus.

SabrinaThwaite · 24/10/2020 20:33

Nope, no exemption.

assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/873521/PPN_01-20_-Responding_to_COVID19.v5__1.pdf

You should ensure you keep proper records of decisions and actions on individual contracts, as this could mitigate against the risk of a successful legal challenge. If you make a direct award, you should publish a contract award notice (regulation 50) within 30 days of awarding the contract.

Clavinova · 24/10/2020 20:43

Nope, no exemption.

Well ok, I'm pretty the reason stated was administrative problems due to coronavirus - which is what you asked me.

Clavinova · 24/10/2020 20:44

Going to watch a film. Smile

SabrinaThwaite · 24/10/2020 20:48

No I didn’t ask you that.

But enjoy your film Smile

Clavinova · 25/10/2020 09:07

But enjoy your film

I did thank you.
I was obviously looking forward to it as I missed out a word in two of my posts. Grin
