Australia deal = no deal effectively. Quite annoyed with the PM smirking though his speech as well. Seemingly uncaring about what he's inflicting on people. I do believe people in 2016 weren't voting for no deal. I know it's happening anyway, but it's a cheek to try to blame the EU for it imo.

It’s a whole fucking shit show. We are a huge laughing stock (as is US).
Our leaders are pompous and don’t give a shit, because they’re alright jack. We have some kind of weird Stockholm syndrome that has taken over the nation and we are so divided. It’s heartbreaking

@Clavinova

I can't see the word "faulty" on your screenshot.

You have a different interpretation of “compliance issue” then? As in “non compliant”?

Clavinova · 20/10/2020 11:49

SabrinaThwaite

It depends what you were implying - if 'faulty and unsafe to use' - we don't know the answer to that yet - only that the 'voluntary certificates of compliance' issued by ECM didn't demonstrate that they complied with legislation. (source BBC)

General remarks about the certificates from the European Safety Federation;
"It has to be remarked that it is possible that the PPE are safe and offer the claimed protection, even if the documents are not correct and thus offer no solid proof of that. In those cases, testing of the PPE and following the correct procedures can be considered."

Cummings and his mates at Cambridge Analytica just wanted to
break everything

7 October 2020;

"Cambridge Analytica was "not involved" in the EU referendum, says the Information Commissioner."

"A three-year probe into the misuse of personal data, centring around the activities of the firm, has now ended."

"it found Cambridge Analytica was not involved in the 2016 vote "beyond some initial enquiries made...in the early stages" around UKIP."

"As part of its wider inquiry, parenting advice site Emma's Diary was fined £140,000 after it was accused of illegally collecting data and selling it on for use by the Labour Party, which used it to profile new mothers."

"while the question of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 vote was outside the remit of the inquiry, the regulator had not found "any additional evidence" of Russian involvement in its analysis of material contained in computer servers seized from Cambridge Analytica and SCL Elections."

Don’t need to “imply” anything, PestFix has admitted the masks they have already supplied were not fit for purpose.

PestFix sold masks as being FFP3 grade (as required by the NHS in clinical and care settings) and it turns out they only met FFP1 standards.

I still can't get over the idea of a government paying a small rat-catching company based in a seafront shed millions of quid to supply PPE to the NHS. Was Johnson shagging the marketing manager or something?

Indefensible, isn’t it?
sashh · 20/10/2020 12:43

It will benefit Boris and his mates for us to have a no deal. I've no idea how. Maybe someone else can explain.

In the case of JRM an offshore trust fund. The EU are closing tax loopholes and offshore tax havens, if we were still in the EU he would have to start paying tax.

I'm fairly sure the others have similar interests.

I'm still so angry about my rights being taken away, how the hell can that happen in a democracy?

And it looks like we will now be importing from the US, that has to mean huge price hikes or lowering of standards or both.

Clavinova · 20/10/2020 12:45

SabrinaThwaite

Why didn't you post the letter earlier!

Mistigri

Part of your answer is here;

"March - France has forced a face mask manufacturer to cancel a major UK order as the coronavirus-inspired scramble for protective gear intensifies."

"The National Health Service ordered millions of masks from Valmy SAS near Lyon earlier this year as COVID-19 threatened."

"But amid a global shortage, France earlier this week ordered the requisition of all protective masks made in the country."

Full Fact - September 2019;

Peregrina · 20/10/2020 12:58

There seem to be two issues here - whether there is an EU law coming in and whether JRM chooses to conceal money in an Offshore Fund.

Peregrina · 20/10/2020 12:59

In short another squirrel from our Cut n' paste friend, who no doubt has to go out now.

Does he? Your point.

Roussette · 20/10/2020 13:35

Aren't we doing well with that reputed Dido at the helm of Track and Trace.... the disgraced CEO of Talk Talk, the one with a Tory MP husband and friends where it matters... Little Matty Hancock and Boris....

www.thelondoneconomic.com/news/on-the-verge-of-collapse-as-outsourced-tracing-fails-to-contact-almost-250000-people/19/10/

'Private firms Serco and Sitel failed to contact 245,481 contacts in England either online or from call centres over four months – missing nearly 40% of contacts, the figures show'

A real 'world beating system' according to Boris.

Roussette · 20/10/2020 13:35

ListeningQuietly · 20/10/2020 13:39

Track and trace is contacting the same people dozens of times
so its numbers are dodgier than an excel spreadsheet
www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54559228

and the end of transition looms closer every day
with still NO INFORMATION to confirm what businesses will actually have to do
as we do not know if the UK will carry out its side of the WA

porridgecake · 20/10/2020 14:01

I have just been listening to Helena Kennedy on "Politics Live" and she has just made a very concise statement summarising exactly this issue.
I hope there will be a public inquiry into this. She went so far as to say that the £millions profits made by the relatives and cronies of certain politicians should be given back to local authorities, not given to shareholders.
I hope her comments are published and shared widely.

Meanwhile, bona fide companies who have been supplying the NHS for decades couldn't even get a look in, despite trying for weeks to get through to anyone in the NHS or the cabinet office to ask if they would like to place an order.
Mistigri · 20/10/2020 14:15

I know. It's utterly preposterous, not to say certainly dodgy and probably illegal (I'll bung a few more quid to the Good Law law people in the hope of finding out one day).

It's still a fantastic story though. Who needs Private Eye when you have a government openly gifting large amounts of public money to rat-catchers in return for medical supplies.

What will Boris do if Joe gets in ?
Same as he'll do it Trump wins
count down the days till the end of Transition and resign

Clavinova, thank you for those really interesting fact checking links.

Heard this on my car radio;

"Brexit trade talks back on after EU says both sides must compromise. Number 10 says Mr Barnier's speech represents a "fundamental" shift in approach from Brussels."

Clavinova, the whole vote leave connection with Cummings hasn't been severed actually. I do wonder why you are so energetically defensive of all the corrupt shenanigans.

The EU is just as bloody minded, so its 50/50 for me
