I wondered if this issue has influenced you at all? I think I am changing my mind

Na still a remainer- currently receiving excellent care by EU staff in an NHS hospital whatsapping my lovely German neighbour I’d be mad not to.

AncientandPregnant · 14/06/2020 07:22

From pro Brexit to anti Brexit or vice versa?

I voted again Brexit but I’ve never been an EU evangelist like some and I could see sides to both arguments. However, Covid has taken such a toll on our economy and our freedoms that I now feel more strongly that we shouldn’t be risking no deal at the end of the year.

MarieG10 · 14/06/2020 07:48

I think the damage done to the economy by these politicians due to CV means that the impact of Brexit will be far less now.

Frankly though I've gone far more Brexit minded as seeing the EU demand things like unrestricted access to fishing waters etc like before is making my blood boil and I realise far more why some dislike it so much

Newjez · 14/06/2020 07:49

I think risking no deal would kill our shattered economy.

But at the same time I think covid has shown us that we need much better control over our food and medicine, especially PPE. Many of these industries are strategic and should be protected.

I'm happy for Brexit to go ahead. But I do think it needs to take covid into consideration when forming trade deals.

Destroying our farmers at this time or any time isn't in the countries interest.

Jellycatfox · 14/06/2020 07:50

Yes. I thought it was a terrible idea. Now I think it was a horrible idea that drained our resources and made us a lot less able to deal with a crisis.

ElaineMarieBenes · 14/06/2020 08:08

No - voted remain (and still think it’s the best option for the U.K. - but obviously that isn’t going to happen!). I’ve already left and am in no hurry to return anytime soon.

I thing other EU countries will suffer far worse recession due to collapse of holiday industry (Spain, Italy, Greece) etc and will need massive bailouts from other EU states. Glad we're not having to finance their recovery as well as our own.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 14/06/2020 08:19

No voted brexit. Would still.

Yy to the EU demanding fishing rights and trying to bully up into agreeing. Although it came as no surprise

Yy to not bailing out rest of Europe

What @daytripper28 said.

MaggieMay1972 · 14/06/2020 08:38

Don't tell me , you think we should have another vote on it ?.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 14/06/2020 08:40

No. Brexit will cause further damage on top of the damage caused by Covid19. There’s a real possibility that the second wave of infections will co-incide with No deal at the end of the transition period. Medicines shortages will cause catastrophic harm to patients.

mrsjg · 14/06/2020 09:00

No.

The lack of a proper plan to deal with Covid 19 by this government will be repeated again when Brexit happens.

This government will throw the British public under a bus to make sure they are ok as proved when they supported PM Cummings.

Fishing is 0.49% of the UK economy

Video games are 0.99% of the UK economy

ListeningQuietly · 14/06/2020 16:46

The single market has kept the food in the shops during COVID
(lorry drivers got absolute exemptions on international travel)
The single market ends on 1st January next year.
the UK imports 53% of its fresh food
every day

Peregrina · 14/06/2020 20:08

I haven't changed my mind - still pro Remain.

I would like to ask a question of those who are concerned about fishing rights - as far as I am aware our own trawler owners sold our boats and quotas voluntarily. If we were to get a deal to keep the EU out of our waters, do you think those one time trawler owners would want to buy the quotas back and reinvest in new boats?

Where are the floods of Britons keen to pick fruit, to replace EU citizens?

MarshmallowManiac · 14/06/2020 22:27

Totally what daytripper28 said. Voted remain and would do so again in a heartbeat.

LOVELYDOVEY05 · 15/06/2020 06:14

I was told by a Brexiteer that it does not matter about lack of EU medics as retired NHS staff will continue out of retirement like they did with Covid. I cannot imagine this somehow as many will be unable to work at the pace for very long plus they would need upskilling. Another told me they do not mind about medics from other countries but they wish to end freedom of movement. There will always be a price expensive US style health service I suppose However, with a rapid ageing population does it matter? We cannot really keep NHS in its current form can we ?

I think asking for an extension would be the most sensible idea. Smile

Selmaselma · 15/06/2020 07:06

I didn't vote since I am an EU citizen but haven't changed my mind about it begin a terrible idea. Now, there are good chances that Brexit will be handled as badly as Covid-19. I've left the UK before Brexit was a thing but if I hadn't I would definitely leave now.

yellowhammers · 15/06/2020 10:23

I voted for Brexit and still want it. I certainly don't want an extension to the transition because we will end up paying for the collapsed economies of the EU. No wonder they want an extension.

Selmaselma · 15/06/2020 10:53

Actually the UK economy looks worse at the moment. Does that turn your argument into staying to get EU money?

Peregrina · 15/06/2020 10:56

I thought it was the UK which initially asked for the extension. We are the ones who asked to leave and have done so. Not the EU telling us to go.

ConstanceL · 15/06/2020 13:42

No it's made be even more glad that I voted remain, I would be feeling massive amounts of guilt if I'd voted the other way at the moment. We need our current European trading arrangements now more than ever, as it is going to be a miracle if the country doesn't go into a severe recession - although I hope I am wrong about that!

AgeLikeWine · 15/06/2020 13:50

I voted Remain, and I have seen nothing in the last four years which has made me reconsider my vote. I have been genuinely shocked at just how spectacularly the Tories have fucked up the process of leaving. It would have been possible to come up with a ‘Soft Brexit’, a pragmatic way of honouring the referendum result while not messing up the economy which could have won cross-party support in Parliament.
