I wondered if this issue has influenced you at all? I think I am changing my mind

Are you as upset about the £12 billion wasted on Dido Harding's failed track and trace system? That would have provided an awful lot of food for your food bank.

Ihaveyourback · 09/11/2020 17:55

You can hold Dido account if you like, but I think you will find most people are just trying their best to solve as many covid problems as possible. You can be hateful, I prefer to be more positive.

We are seeing masses of generosity across the board, and we are working hard to ensure no family goes without anything. If you are interested you could get involved peregrina in our area we are looking for new bedding and children's nightwear, I am sure your food bank would welcome your support.

Peregrina · 09/11/2020 18:01

I don't call saying that Dido's track and trace system has failed and has wasted money is any more than a statement of fact.
BTW I am a regular supporter of my local foodbank.

Ihaveyourback · 09/11/2020 18:05

Honestly tell someone that cares peregrina I see a gov doing their best, thats it. You might not agree, and that is fine

FreshFreesias · 09/11/2020 18:08

No. Still a Brexiteer.

flashbac · 09/11/2020 18:09

There might not be any food in your food Bank @ihaveyourback.
Lorry park built on a flood plain, queues, WHO tariffs if no deal. Panicked people stockpiling. Sunlit uplands indeed.

RenegadeMrs · 09/11/2020 18:11

Remainer then, remainer now. I thought it would damage the economy then, I think it will decimate it off the back off Covid. I hope I'm wrong but fear I'm not.

Ihaveyourback · 09/11/2020 19:21

Heard it all before, which is why the MAJORITY of the country - re Brexiteers do not bother to come on these threads or engage any longer.

Thankfully it is over flash and we are leaving.

I am sure there will be queues for the first few weeks as everyone gets used to it, but it will ease and speed up and it is a small price to pay given the alternative.

There is no point at all of engaging any longer - it is settled now as far as I am concerned.

ListeningQuietly · 11/11/2020 18:37

Oh look
ihaveyourback
is stirring it on this thread as well as the Trump ones.

How is the view across to St Basils

Newjez · 18/11/2020 22:37

If we had to Brexit, there was a way via EEA/EFTA. This could have been done quickly and painlessly.

Then we could have seen where we wanted to go.

Now we have this shower of shit on a covid cake. Can't believe we are doing this to the country at this time.

And to top it off, Nissan are closing Sunderland. They aren't pulling punches anymore. It's in Reuters.

No deal, no car industry.

Unbelievable.

Clavinova · 19/11/2020 11:38

And to top it off, Nissan are closing Sunderland.

Well, I think it's too early to say what will happen at Sunderland - BBC report only 5 days ago;

"Nissan's new hybrid Qashqai model will be built at the firm's Sunderland plant, it has been confirmed."

"The third-generation of the compact SUV will go on sale next year, although its production will not create any jobs at the Wearside factory."

"The firm had previously only said the vehicle would be manufactured in Europe and it has not announced when work will begin."

"The Qashqai, which came out in 2006, is the plant's most successful car."

"Nissan said further details would be announced next spring."

God no. This whole pandemic has just proven how hopeless our government is and how our country is small fry without the rest of Europe.
The EU has just put in an order for millions of vaccines and will be first in the queue along with the US with its massive buying power.

Meanwhile Johnson’s fannying around paying millions to middle men. This is life post brexit and more will come. Luckily we’re still under the EMA so approval of a vaccine will at least come fast. Delivery will be chaos though because of impending issues with supply chain.
Total shit show. I just wish people could see the issue as more than ‘taking back control’ and contemplate the detail.

KenDodd · 19/11/2020 23:09

No deal, no car industry

Didn't Patrick Minford (big supporter of Brexit) say Brexit would be the end of manufacturing in the UK? Or something like that? I think he said the end of farming as well? If this is correct, we can't say we weren't warned and can only assume that Nissan workers who voted Leave wanted their factory to close.

Clavinova · 20/11/2020 16:03

No deal, no car industry

Not quite - "no-deal" "without any sustainable business case" - I think it might depend on what "sustainable business case" the UK government comes up with;

"On the prospect of no deal between the UK and Brussels, Mr Gupta told the Reuters news agency: "If it happens without any sustainable business case, obviously it is not a question of Sunderland or not Sunderland, obviously our UK business will not be sustainable, that's it."

15 November;
^"UK regions compete to host 'gigafactory' for electric car batteries.
Government expected to unveil funding and plans for battery-making factory in near future."^

Xing Ming : the Concept of the man on the Clapham Omnibus is specific to the law of tort. There is no concept of fairness or common sense applied in criminal law, in fact a large portion of criminal law is statute law anyway, (which is not common law.) As Jasjas says, the EU have nothing to do with criminal law, and even if many people believe otherwise, as you seem to think, that does not make it true. I think quite a few people believe that „human rights“, which are indeed sometimes relevant for criminal proceedings, and the ECHR are somehow connected to the EU as they both have European in their name. That is also not the case.

Clavinova · 01/12/2020 19:05

October 2020 -
"EU’s High Court Eurochat Ruling puts Hundreds of Criminal Cases in Jeopardy."

October 2020-
"The Court of Justice of the European Union [CJEU - not the same court as the ECHR] has ruled that the UK, French and Belgian bulk data collection or retention regimes (often referred to as ‘mass surveillance’) must be brought within EU law. The cases will now return to each individual country’s courts for implementation of the judgment."

"In July this year, an international crime sting operation rounded up several Scottish household names in a major crackdown on the EncroChat phone encryption network. Authorities managed to access Encrochat, an encrypted platform used by 60,000 people worldwide, the National Crime Agency has “successfully penetrated” a top-secret communications system used by criminals to trade drugs and guns, said a spokesman."

"This is just one example of how UK, French and Belgian mass surveillance regimes used modern high-tech software and equipment to infiltrate and crack high-class criminal networks. Now, however, all these ‘triumphs of justice’ will be put under the spotlight and it is feared many previous convictions will now be overturned."

"Major crime figures were among over 800 Europe-wide arrests after messages on EncroChat were intercepted and decoded. More than two tonnes of drugs, several dozen guns and €60m (£54m) in suspect cash were seized, says the NCA. While the NCA were part of the investigations, it was initiated and led by French and Dutch police, and also involved Europol–the EU agency for law enforcement cooperation."

I was a 7/10 pro-Remain person but I have always been very glad I voted the way I did. Am a bit hmmm at seeing how the fishing negotiations are going and could always see that the EU had treated countries such as Greece badly and in a highhanded manner.

But would always have voted to remain, given that I valued my freedom of movement - and that of my kids – most of all.

testandtracy · 05/12/2020 21:13

I think if the EU countries had come up with a good concerted effort against Covid I might have regretted my Leave vote.
As it is, their response to Covid has reinforced my reservations about the EU. For example, Italy is due to receive 27.4 billion in the EU recovery fund. Far more than any other country. Fair enough you might think, but not when you read the recent BBC reports on the way the Mafia steals from the Italian healthcare system.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-55098415
I'm glad we won't be paying into the EU anymore, because I'm not confident that the funds are used properly.

(And I do realise that the current government stands accused of misusing public funds but it's on a smaller scale and we can vote them out ... one day!)
