Westminstenders: A test of logistic planning

We are witnessing a demonstration in Government crisis management.

For the past week journalists have asked the same questions and politicians have said they've already done it / are doing it in the near future. But as time wears on, the inability to produce the answers or demonstrate results is proving illusive.

This will have consequences.

It is a demonstration in how planning has proved to be lacking in certain areas.

With Brexit in mind, the lack of vision, coordination with business and wider capability and capacity this does not bode well.

Taipei, April 7 (CNA) A Taiwanese research team has produced 25 human monoclonal antibodies based on antibody gene segments from three patients infected with the COVID-19 coronavirus.

It's a slightly strange list - we need classical ballet dancers, for example. I am not sure why when all entertainment is shut down.

I'm imagining the daily news being presented as interpretive dance ?

And In Mandarin DGR...

He never does, so why should we?

BurneyFanny · 08/04/2020 17:24

Well, the arts are a huge sector of the economy and music is barely taught in schools any more.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 08/04/2020 17:32

Twas the Nicky Morgan with the face of a startled budgie and a brain to match who said, as Education Secretary, that Music and Drama were not as important as the rest of the curriculum because nobody ever got a job in the arts.

...And now we have Rishi sounding like Maybot 2.0, especially when asked about anything to do with What Next?

There is no next. The policy is to keep repeating the policy in two and three-word slogans: Write Slogans. Say The Slogans. Repeat The Slogans.

If anyone believes it, it's 938 deaths in the UK "today" ...

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2020 17:42

True burney but nor is Mandarin (never has been !) and this appears to be a shortage secondary education role!?

Singasonga · 08/04/2020 17:43

I was fascinated to see that the only dancers needed are classical ballet dancers, or contemporary dancers. So street dancer, tap dancers, and commercial dancers are NOT required.

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2020 17:51

Lots of those on BGT every year , you see.

Unless I didn't look very carefully, nothing in the film industry which makes a huge contribution to the economy and relied quite heavily on EU talent in certain fields of expertise.

Light relief from the QI Elves ...

In 1945 the US Presidential Seal was redesigned so the bald eagle faced away from the arrows, symbolising turning away from war. Churchill commented that it’d be better if they put the bald eagle’s head on a swivel.

Well it would probably be wiser to train up our own Mandarin speakers than to rely on those sent here by China in the Confucius Institutes.

QuestionMarkNow · 08/04/2020 18:07

i'd like to knw how deaths are counted seeing that we do so few tests.
a freind of mine has a family memner who passed away today. The person was in a care home and died in hospital. They didnt do any test, family was allowed to go and see her.
Now, my friend has been told to self isolate on the assumption that said family member died of the CV-19.

So, seeing that no test has been done, is that death recorded as a CV-19 death? if it isnt, what if it was? If it is, what if it wasnt?
Why no test, keeping that person in a ward despite the fcat she might have been infected? What about the other patients, the staff, family?
I just don't understand the logic of asking people to behave as if that person had CV-19 now she is dead when everyone was treating her as if she wasnt when she was alive

Think link I posted may explain number of deaths in community as well as hospitals.

mrslaughan · 08/04/2020 18:44

The man who mows our lawn came today - had a conversation from a distance. He lost 3 clients last week - all died at home, (so won't be included in official figures) 2 lived in the same hamlet . All older , but fit and active. We also talked about his other job which is at Waitrose. He obviously is a bit rattled about that - doesn't feel that safe. Have to say I don't blame him - I am avoiding supermarkets.

I think the way the numbers are presented is hiding the real human cost of this epidemic.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 08/04/2020 19:42

question similar has happened with a friends GF. Became ill in his care home, went to hospital, not tested and treating like it wasn't covid19 but family told afterwards to self isolate under the assumption it was. I suspect his death wasn't recorded as covid19 related too purely as there was no test done.

Sostenueto · 08/04/2020 20:10

One of the people I know who heads a large company of care homes puts figure at over 8000 in homes and in the community. That is only hearsay. Because they are not tested and some no post mortem true figures dying of Covid not being recorded. We have had 4 in our village in last 3 days confirmed as Covid. 3 ambulances today in village but it is a population mainly of over 60 s.

Sostenueto · 08/04/2020 20:11

Care home in Luton 15 deaths in a week.

Sostenueto · 08/04/2020 20:11

5 tested positive for Covid.

RedToothBrush · 08/04/2020 20:12

I think the data I've seen suggests that the real number of deaths is possibly at least a third higher than the official hospital death figure.

In my area alone that seems consistent with that from what's been reported locally.

Doesn’t the eagle’s head point to the branches in peacetime and the arrow in wartime? Or maybe that’s a myth?
