Whenever this is asked mid-thread, it's never answered. There's plenty of information out there about how the UK had benefited from membership, but I really struggle to find info on how it's had a negative impact.
So in Jan 2021, once the transition period is over and we actually start to see the impact of the decision, what will improve? How will yours, and mine, and the general population's lives improve?

That analogy is pathetic

Comparison to a divorce is good. Remember the term Divorce bill has been used a lot.

friendlycat · 04/02/2020 11:53

It makes one despair with these "supposed reasons" of "telling the EU to get stuffed" and the EU being a "cock lodger". And these people get the vote sadly.

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 11:54

@mummmy2017

Although not admitted often I think there are some remainers, if not many, who fear losing their job due to Brexit. If so you will never get an objective answer.

I have asked several times for remain supporters to explain why they are not super rich from the stock market if they can forecast the future with 100% certainty, but so far never had a reply.

Oh dear her goes again. Voting has the following requirements;

Being over voting age

Turning up at the polling station

No caveats or entrance exams exist to select from those who meet the above criteria that shall or shall not be allowed to vote.

malylis · 04/02/2020 11:57

I can totally dispute what you are saying because of the way you are framing it with the CL phrases.

The UK benefited from EU membership, the way you describe it is if it was all one way (which is the CL analogy) and that we were being used in a duplicitous way. That isn't the case.

A very real reason why people have chosen to leave the EU.

Then again, not a valid reason or one which has any factual backing.

mummmy2017 · 04/02/2020 11:58

But lots of people in the UK do see it as such.
The EU leeches off the 28, and no one who is an official of the EU is poor. The perks are not even open to accounting.
You can own a house there, yet have claimed for accommodation for 40 years if that is how long you have been employed by them.

malylis · 04/02/2020 11:59

It doesn't matter that there are only two requirements for voting. Its perfectly allowed to critique reasons for voting Democracy see

But your rote learned response doesn't go that far.

Peregrina · 04/02/2020 12:00

Making sure that the Registration Office hasn't accidentally (or deliberately) disenfranchised you. As they did with me, but I know enough to make a stink about it and make sure that I got put back on the register.

mummmy2017 · 04/02/2020 12:01

The EU pay us with our own money.
They have No industry,. No manufacturing, all they do is talk, and pay themselves very well for it.

Monty12345 · 04/02/2020 12:02

We'll do trade with every country in the world, regain our empire, produce everything the world needs and all be millionaires by Friday!

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 12:04

Good that you have finally accepted that everyone over voting age can vote if they make the effort to turn up at the polling station. An improvement on the angle that Boris only won because labour voters stayed at home.

Its perfectly allowed to critique reasons for voting Democracy see

But a waste of energy unless there is another referendum or election looming.

Peregrina · 04/02/2020 12:06

You are talking about Farage here I suppose mummmy? He personifies the cock lodger - being an MEP for 20 odd years, but having one of the worst attendance records, and not having a legitimate excuse like an extended period of sickness to account for it.

Otherwise, do you realise that the UK actually used to propose new EU laws. Do you realise that the Single Market was Maggie Thatcher's idea?

malylis · 04/02/2020 12:06

Yes, and they pay us with what we agreed to pay because it was beneficial to us.

The divorce analogy works well the other way too.

The UK is like the middle aged man who left his wife to shag 19 year old girls from Tinder.

At first he refused to pay the divorce bill (but agreed eventually)

At the moment he is refusing to have any conditions on access arrangements (he will). He had thought that his ex would let him continue to come and to as he pleased (and she might still give him his tea). She won't.

For some reason the 19 year olds aren't that bothered about getting together with him either.

Peregrina · 04/02/2020 12:08

An improvement on the angle that Boris only won because labour voters stayed at home.

In a lot of 'Red Wall' seats the turnout was down. In others Farage helped put the Tories in, in others he helped the Tories lose.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/02/2020 12:09

Don’t most people end up financially worse off after a divorce

mummmy2017 · 04/02/2020 12:12

If the UK is the man, don't fret, he actually knows it is possible to have real friends of both sexes and not have to get into bed with them, just to do buisness.

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 12:13

@mummmy2017

Starting to like you a lot. EU commissioners have made a fortune from the EU as have MEP's That's why Farage is a star. Achievement of his goal cost him his job, but he did it anyway as thought it was in UK's best interests.

EU is a legal entity, but not a physical entity. It is a layer that sits on top of 27 other Countries. Same can be said for the UK.

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 12:16

Maybe, but better off inside their heads as freedom has been regained. Emotions can't be priced as they are different to different people.

Maybe some leave supporters are happy that Brexit is done regardless of whether or not they better off moneywise.

Why?

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 12:19

He had thought that his ex would let him continue to come and to as he pleased (and she might still give him his tea). She won't

Not the reason I divorced. I too wanted rid of a freeloader. No desire to see again.

mummmy2017 · 04/02/2020 12:20

@MysteryTripAgain
The trouble is with a split there are 5 stages of grief, and some people are still at stage 1.

Peregrina · 04/02/2020 12:26

Why should anyone be grieving if it's all benefits? I'd like to see the list please.

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 12:31

Why should anyone be grieving if it's all benefits? I'd like to see the list please.

Remainers have been given the leavers lists already

ineedaholidaynow · 04/02/2020 12:32

Would love to hear your ex’s side of the story Mystery especially as you don’t even live in the same country as your children.

Do you live in the EU?

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 12:34

some people are still at stage 1

And will remain (get the pun) forever at stage 1
