Thank you so much Red for these threads. They’re a true godsend and have helped me and many others see through the murky waters we find ourselves in.BrewCakeFlowers

I know I should say something profound but I wanted to be first!

We will always inextricably linked with other European countries. Our genes, royalty, trade, language and history make this inevitable. Since long before Henry VIIIs brother aspired to negotiate lucrative dynastic marriages with the daughter of Ferdinand and Isabella our fortunes have intertwined and will remain so. This period is just a small embarrassing blip in the timeline.

PMK many thanks Red

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 25/01/2020 21:16

A despondent PMK. Thanks Red.

Mistigri · 25/01/2020 21:22

Here we are again.

I had to mute Blowjob and the 10downingst account on twitter. Utter bilge.

Everything to play for still with regard to the final form of Brexit. There is growing evidence of serious disagreements in the government - see tonight's news that they are no longer pursing a low/no tariff Minford-style approach.

ListeningQuietly · 25/01/2020 21:25

Please do not be despondent folks
in the trite words of Prof Brian Cox
the only way is up
We have been proved wrong

The Brexiters are going to make a great success of it
the UK will magically be reunited
and climate change will be averted
once Trump is impeached

alternatively, we will continue to assess the evidence and make preparations that protect those we can as best we can

and the rats will be just fine in China

GeistohneGrenzen · 25/01/2020 21:25

Thank you Red - PMK

PMK, I’m in an unnaturally jolly mood as have been very successful in distracting myself with CNY festivities (mainly food, it has to be said) - I’m wondering whether it is feasible for us to do the full, traditional, 15 day celebration thus eclipsing Brexshit Day.

Oh, and I brought some virtual biscuits for sharing!

A depressed but resigned PMK. Or maybe not so resigned as I still can't quite believe it's happening. It's like being in a film in which the bad guys have won.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 25/01/2020 22:29

Pmk. The world's going to shit, isn't it? Sad

ListeningQuietly · 25/01/2020 22:40

Please do not be despondent folks

We have to be positive. I visited Czechoslovakia in the early 80s. If you had told me that just over 20 years later that they would be joining what became the EU I would not have believed you. It seemed impossible.

There is growing evidence of serious disagreements in the government - see tonight's news that they are no longer pursing a low/no tariff Minford-style approach.

Oh dear, oh dear. I wish I could feel sorry for them; actually, no I don't, I will enjoy seeing them reap what they have sown.

midwestcharm · 26/01/2020 02:21

It is hard not to be despondent but this too shall pass.
Liking the biscuit pictures, been in USA long enough to think of them as cookies!
We have signed up for another couple of years in the States still waiting for sanity back in the UK.

BlackeyedSusan · 26/01/2020 02:25

Not necessarily our last week. Maybe for now but not forever.

missclimpson · 26/01/2020 05:04

Mixed feelings here. Horrified and sad for the UK, my family and especially my wonderful teenage granddaughters who will not have the opportunities that we and their parents have had. Relieved that the withdrawal agreement will now guarantee our rights as migrants in France. Will continue to watch the pound anxiously. Brexit has already cost us more than 20,000€ based on exchange rates before the 2016 vote.
We will lose our rights to vote in local elections, so may take back our voting cards to the Mairie, come back and listen to the Ode to Joy and hope that this too will pass.
