Predictions for how long before we rejoin the EU?

I reckon between 10-15 years, if I narrow that down I reckon 2033

5 years for the full economic impact to be felt, 5 years to get a rejoin majority government, year to do an referendum, 2 years to negotiate to join.

I expect that's about right. No doubt on a worse deal than we currently have.

AuldAlliance · 21/01/2020 15:03

Depending on how many more people the UK gvmt has pissed off even more by then, the attempt might be vetoed. Tusk and his warm words will be a distant memory by then...

rosie39forever · 21/01/2020 15:57

The only way we'll be allowed to rejoin is to adopt the euro and join Schengen, but we'll totally have taken back control by then 🤔

BeyondMyWits · 21/01/2020 15:59

not...left...yet...

Inthebleakmidwinteriwouldsing · 21/01/2020 16:00

I’ve heard (I think on Remainiacs?) that it would probably take about 20 years, the reason being that the aim is obviously to do it properly, not just be in the EU at all costs.

Of course we could never get terms as good as the ones we have now, but in that period of time we could apparently get our shit together.

Grasspigeons · 21/01/2020 16:00

I dont think the EU will survive in its current form. So i dont think we will be re-joining. Thats one of the reasons im sad we left.

Cobblersandhogwash · 21/01/2020 16:00

I don't think they'll want us back. We've been nothing but a pain in the arse, always wanting special treatment.

It's going to be a long old haul.

Inthebleakmidwinteriwouldsing · 21/01/2020 16:01

not...left...yet...

No. But it’s generally accepted that this is now inevitable.

notangelinajolie · 21/01/2020 16:02

We won't. The EU is falling apart and soon there will be no EU to join.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 21/01/2020 16:04

I don’t think they’d let us back in anytime soon. We’re a laughing stock.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 21/01/2020 16:05

The EU is not going to last. A good reason to leave. Never in a amillion years.

Echobelly · 21/01/2020 16:08

Two to 3 decades I'd reckon. If it still exists by then, which it might well not.

BeyondMyWits · 21/01/2020 16:09

It is inevitable that we will start to leave...

On 1st Feb we've chucked away our power - no longer at the top table, no longer any MEPs, for a year, or longer... do we think it will all be sorted in a year?

I don't, but am prepared to be astounded and bowled over by the superior negotiating power of our current BREXIT team.

Reginabambina · 21/01/2020 16:10

2 years to negotiate! Lol.

WheresMyChocolate · 21/01/2020 16:12

7 days to seek it. Many years, around 30 to get it.

I think we'll crash out at the end of the transition period and then all hell will let loose.

lljkk · 21/01/2020 16:14

decades imho. EU will last for long long time

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/01/2020 16:16

Wont happen, the EU will evolve and in parts disintegrate.

Inthebleakmidwinteriwouldsing · 21/01/2020 16:18

@BeyondMyWits oh I’m totally with you there. I for one will be completely unsurprised when it gets to the day before whatever the next deadline is and we still haven’t moved forward.

Noshowlomo · 21/01/2020 16:18

I still can't believe this is happening :(

skiptheskip · 21/01/2020 16:20

There won't be an EU in 15 years time.

user1497207191 · 21/01/2020 16:22

The EU will implode within the next 10-20 years, so we won't be re-joining. Once the Euro currency collapses, which is inevitable, it'll all collapse like a pack of cards. At the moment, it's limping along with sticking plasters covering the fractures, but that can't last forever. Even a slight economic downturn and it'll fall apart.

Drabarni · 21/01/2020 16:27

I'm not convinced we'll leave, but yes, the EU will implode soon.
The Neo Natzi uprising across Europe is the frightening bit, it's already becoming like Germany in the thirties.

alislim · 21/01/2020 16:34

Wasn't there a report out today (and I only read the headline so don't jump on me) saying economically we'll be doing better than the eu for at least the first 2 years??
Also, I agree with previous posters-the EU won't be around soon anyway

Oaky321 · 21/01/2020 16:38

Never. We will be much better out than in.

Cobblersandhogwash · 21/01/2020 17:51

Where do you get your prediction abilities to say there'll be nor more EU? It'll implode? It's like 1930s Germany?

There has never been a stronger will to remain in the EU from its members.

They're all watching the UK create trade barriers for itself and make itself a rule taker from the US.
