Exit poll

Con majority of 68.

65 seats regarded technically as still too close to call. But that could mean an even bigger majority.

Blyth Valley has seen a 10% swing to the cons in line with the exit poll. 1st shock of the night

I voted Labour in a Lab/Con marginal -hoping for a hung parliment and a peoples's vote. But even I thought "come on really ?" about some of the policies.

I held my nose to vote Labour in the end in a Lab/Con marginal knowing there would be an overall Tory majority. On the plus side at least we got a Labour MP out of it.

LD’s were in third place and it was thought possible it might swing in their favour - but monitoring the LD campaign and local opinion, people were sticking with Labour as the means to oust Tory MP.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 08:54

kier starmer or jess phillips ?

MarshaBradyo · 13/12/2019 08:55

What’s the point if not listening to why.
It’ll never turn around.

TatianaLarina · 13/12/2019 08:55

Will they pander you their lower income working base by shifting back more centrally.

No. Not with Boris he doesn’t give a fuck about the ‘plebs’.

amd4578 · 13/12/2019 08:56

The striking thing for me is those people that wanted Labour as they are for the many not the few, are currently saying I hope everyone that voted tory suffers etc...

Surely if you wanted to best for everyone you would hope the tories succeed and help people not sit there and wish suffering on the very people you claim Labour wanted to help if they got in?

I don't like either leader but would never wish suffering on people because of the way they voted.. Just comes across as bitter and immoral!!

The scary part about both gloating politicians and posters Lonely is how a fragile ego underpins most narcissists gloating. Insecure and fragile egos tend to focus predominantly on themselves and their needs. So I'm not hopeful for the country and its most vulnerable with our narcissist PM and his band of merry manipulators now in charge.

Thinking I might join the Green Party now even if they are just fringe...

MarshaBradyo · 13/12/2019 08:57

I did think this thread was a mixed one. Remainer heavy yes but more mixed in feeling towards Corbyn

bellinisurge · 13/12/2019 08:57

Gobsmacked in a good way about the results in NI. Check them out to cheer yourself up.

I agree Boris doesn't give a fuck about the plebs.

But once the WA is passed. What then? Brexit is ' done' in the minds of the new Tory voter (Well apart from the years of buttoning down a trading relationship.)

Once it's done the lower income working base will vote with their feet back to their previous political home, unless they're offered something.

TheElementsSong · 13/12/2019 09:00

What I'm interested in now is what the Tories do.

There's an argument amongst the more Panglossian sorts, that BlowJob, having no principles of his own, is now free to pursue any agenda he fancies - which could be a shift towards a softer Brexit and a generally internationalist, metropolitan liberal outlook.

However, bearing in mind that he will want to secure his demographic of new support for the future, I personally think it'll be the opposite - he'll go hard for performative conflict with Europe, further demonisation of immigrants, and attacks on lentil-knitting strawmen.

Random18 · 13/12/2019 09:00

Bellini I am interested. DOD your seat go Tory?

TatianaLarina · 13/12/2019 09:01

DUP losses are one bright point.

Random18 · 13/12/2019 09:02

I don't know much about the Tory MPs that are coming into Parliament.

I guess some are pretty hard left.

Hopefully there are some One Nation tories in there.

Although my local mp who claims to be One Nation is going to be invisible to his constituents again.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 09:02

Who is "wishing suffering" ?

We have said people have voted for what they will get, so we may not have much sympathy later

Some have said we will no longer donate time and / or money, but will reserve this for ourselves and our families
That's just self-care

OublietteBravo · 13/12/2019 09:02

One a personal note I’m delighted that Labour held on in marginal Bedford (which is even more marginal now - majority of just 145).

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/12/2019 09:04

Starmer will get the same shit slung at him as every other Labour leader. As a QC it plays nicely into the enemy of the people/elitist narrative that has been present since brexit.

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 09:04

In fact, from a quick look, I couldn't see that anyone had gone to the Arms to insult anyone there.

Probs best to give your specs a wee clean

There were a few goady visitors from the WM threads trying to pick a scrap but they were dispatched very quickly

We did have a couple of very lovely visitors from WM as well though - they were welcomed, as we always do if people aren't twats to us

lonelyplanetmum · 13/12/2019 09:04

However, bearing in mind that he will want to secure his demographic of new support for the future, I personally think it'll be the opposite - he'll go hard for performative conflict with Europe,

This is where it gets worrying. If he goes for hard conflict with the EU then (a) our trading agreement becomes even more expensive and (b) it can't be directed at Romanian car washers as they will have gone?

So where will that hard conflict be directed next?

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 09:06

there is no other 'socialist' alternative in England though.

There is the SDP

Tiny at the moment, granted, but if enough homeless centre left people flock there (including high profile, experienced former Labour MPs) then it could possibly replace Labour as the centre left option

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 09:06

Being a lawyer, married to another, didn't hurt Blair

Being posh helps BJ and JRM

Piggy Labour has managed to hold on in a few cities, but small and mid size towns have hammered them

Cognitive dissonance plays a huge part...the will of the people led by the old etonians. Also it's not 1997 the political landscape has changed significantly
