Exit poll

Con majority of 68.

65 seats regarded technically as still too close to call. But that could mean an even bigger majority.

Blyth Valley has seen a 10% swing to the cons in line with the exit poll. 1st shock of the night

Any theories about why the latest yougov MRP underestimated the scale of the Tory majority ?

MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2019 23:43

Pmk
I always think one more seat on election night when I should sleep

WifeofDarth · 12/12/2019 23:43

Pmk. I think I'm going to bed. Self care and all that.

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2019 23:43

Blyth Valley. That's it then. Seats in the south like Reading East and Portsmouth South will be Tory presumably as they only take a smaller swing? Yet they're student constituencies. Don't get it.

Its called a political realignment

North and South reversing in nature

Ballot boxes taken away as evidence in Glasgow... Electoral fraud suspected apparently.

For a start opposition parties need three word slogans. Yup it's that dumbed down.

Take back control
Get Brexit done

For the many - not the few

Is too long.

SheOfManyNames · 12/12/2019 23:44

Brexit party has taken 10% of the votes so far. They might be splitting the leave vote in the north. [Hopes]

I heard Paisley mentioned. Paisley South is Mhairi Black.

It is surprising.......traditional Labour but went SNP a few years ago

tabulahrasa · 12/12/2019 23:45

“Ballot boxes taken away as evidence in Glasgow...”

Paisley I think, not Glasgow

thecatfromjapan · 12/12/2019 23:46

BiscuitThanks

Bercow is being quite deliciously scathing about Johnson’s character on Sky.

TheMustressMhor · 12/12/2019 23:47

What will they do for their next GE?

They will have abandoned GEs by then.

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2019 23:47

BBC Andrew Kerr @BBCandrewkerr
So ... here in East Dunbartonshire there’s talk of Jo Swinson’s vote now being on a “knife-edge” after the parties have conducted their tallies. It looks like she’s not picking up the votes in the key areas. Conservatives could be sticking with the Tory candidate.

Looks like Tories aren’t lending their votes to the Lib Dem leader in the way that they used to. Talk of (even from remainer Tories) of wanting Brexit done and a dislike of Ms Swinson and the campaign. It’s suggested she could still “scrape through”.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/12/2019 23:47

Remainer Blair - even without his Iraq disgrace - would not have won this Brexit election

Labour doomed themselves by voting against May's WA 3 times
So the Brexit boil on the nation's bum was never lanced and became poisoned

That was driven by the "moderate" MPs who formed an overwhelming Remainer majority in the PLP,
not so much by Lexiter Corbyn

Fanatical Remainer MPs lost this election, more than Corbyn

  • and one of them is quite likely to be rewarded by being made leader
Random18 · 12/12/2019 23:48

Its Paisley North......oh interesting

CendrillonSings · 12/12/2019 23:48

Bercow is being quite deliciously scathing about Johnson’s character on Sky.

He probably knows he isn't getting his peerage by now Grin

Sconio123 · 12/12/2019 23:49

Looks like my area is certainly going to be retained by the Tories with an even bigger vote share.

Ex mining community, a lot of deprivation around, used to be staunch Labour but flipped to Tories in 2017

Big leave constituency and looks like the stupid twats here have decided Brexit is more important than...well...anything else.

If this is what happens, then they deserve everything that's coming to them. I've always donated to the local food bank (which is very heavily used) but never again. Fuck em.

tabulahrasa · 12/12/2019 23:49

“It's really difficult to prove personation.“

It’s personication they’re looking at in Glasgow and Stirling, paisley where they’ve taken the ballot boxes it’s accusations of the ballot boxes being tampered with somehow.

tobee · 12/12/2019 23:49

Cendrillon you don't fool me! I know you hate Johnson. Enjoy your hollow victory though.

Everytimeref · 12/12/2019 23:51

Thatcher had a similar majority in 1984. It's didn't go at all well for her. The public marches were massive and it led to her stepping down.

CendrillonSings · 12/12/2019 23:52

I know you hate Johnson.

He's put socialism back in its box for a generation - he's all right by me! Smile

PeninsulaPanic · 12/12/2019 23:52

Many thanks @RedToothBrush for all you do on these threads. I sincerely hope they'll continue and keep us sane in an increasingly mad country! 😉
