Exit poll

Con majority of 68.

65 seats regarded technically as still too close to call. But that could mean an even bigger majority.

Blyth Valley has seen a 10% swing to the cons in line with the exit poll. 1st shock of the night

Mockers You seem to really hate the SNP
However, the voters evidently didn't

I don't know how hard BJ would genuinely try to hang on to Scotland and NI,
as the Tories could expect a near monopoly in govt with the smaller England & Wales HoC

Songsofexperience · 13/12/2019 08:00

I feel fine.

Fine is a big word. Calm. We need all the energy we can get. This new world will be exhausting.

MockersFactCheckMN · 13/12/2019 08:00

The French, German and Spanish aviation industries all sighing, Tsk, if only we could make wings!

It won't happen overnight, but in the absence of totally frictionless trade, the investment will go in and they'll get the contracts.

See also Minis made in Austria. O Happy Day.

colouringinpro · 13/12/2019 08:00

Good advice oybbk. I'm going to allow myself to feel shit today.

And try and get up and go on tomorrow.

Solo gutted for the sick and vulnerable of this country, of which one is my ds.

Peregrina · 13/12/2019 08:02

Grass roots resistance is often more effective and usually bolder than the conventional party tactics

Indeed, think of north Vietnam beating the might of the US Army. Or the fall of Communism.

Re Airbus - the wings are floated down the River Dee and exported that way, so I am told.

MockersFactCheckMN · 13/12/2019 08:03

I think individual SNP MPs can be good, but as a political party in parliament they have had crooks and liars officially suspended but not suspended really. I expect this latest one will be the same.

DivisionBelles · 13/12/2019 08:04

Just catching up. Went to bed at 2. I knew it would be bad, but this is just awful. Our useless Tory got in again doubling his majority and getting double toe votes of the Lib Dem tactical candidate.

DD was in the audience at the C4 thing last night and text me to say that when she was backstage a disabled man who was in the audience came out and he was crying so DD started crying and then another girl started crying. He was so angry he was shouting about how much he hated the Tories and he burst into tears. I've told her to try not to get too anxious. Things can and will change but it will take time. I'm so far away from her, I just want to give her a big hug.

He has to go ridiculous if not.

Songsofexperience · 13/12/2019 08:08

Will we still get PMQs? Isn't Twitter a much better platform to communicate with "The People"?
(Sarcasm...)

Bearbehind · 13/12/2019 08:09

Which he deserves but for his party's sake he should not allow to happen

For his party’s sake he should have stepped down long ago so I won’t be at all surprised if he doesn’t now

He’s certainly not sounding like he intends to other than ‘before the next GE’

MockersFactCheckMN · 13/12/2019 08:10

The Airbus wings either fly out on a Beluga, or for the bigger ones they float them down to where the ferry picks them up, having made a huge detour from Hamburg on its way to Toulouse.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 13/12/2019 08:11

I have family in the S Wales valleys. They felt ignored by Labour. They were concerned about skilled immigration from the EU impacting their children’s ability to get a job. Why spend money training a local kid when you can get a trained person from Poland for the same money.
They are not thick or xenophobic but they did feel ignored by Labour

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 08:12

If the Tories want to win the next GE too, then chill about Corbyn
If he stays 4 years, you're in again

I can understand it from frustrated Labour voters:

Labour need to discuss the direction they want Labour to go, because those like hairy were saying they took revenge for Blair neglecting the North,
whereas others say you need a Blair Mk II

imo, as I posted before, Labour's problem is that their 3 "tribes" - strong left, traditionalists, progressives - are currently no longer compatible
They can't so far agree on policies or leader

However, splitting would be fatal under FPTP

Can those 3 groups agree to prioritise gaining power over their differences, as the 3 Tory groups do ?
If not, we'll all die of old age under a Tory govt

Dapplegrey · 13/12/2019 08:12

It stops when people accept that this was a landslide victory and is what the majority of people want.

I agree Bear.

Piggywaspushed · 13/12/2019 08:13

Can't recall who mentioned Wales and Airbus. South Wales voted Labour.

That sounds very healthy Colouring

BigChoc. Yes.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/12/2019 08:17

Yes to the song you posted! (thread moved on, my browser did not!)

CendrillonSings · 13/12/2019 08:17

Speaking of Wales, Clwyd South was fought by a young Boris Johnson in 1997, who lost by almost 14,000 votes in the teeth of Blair's landslide.

Today, Clwyd South is represented by a Conservative MP.

fedup21 · 13/12/2019 08:19

So, how much is Brexit going to cost us then?

Songsofexperience · 13/12/2019 08:19

They were concerned about skilled immigration from the EU impacting their children’s ability to get a job.

The reality under the Tories already is that they've swapped skilled EU for skilled non EU migrants. It's just the rhetoric around who's the "bad" immigrant that's shifting. That's all.
EU migration is at an all time low since 2003 and non EU keeps growing. That's the bit Tories can control. What does that tell you?

hopefulhalf · 13/12/2019 08:20

It stops when people accept that this was a landslide victory and is what the majority of people want.

45.6 % is not most. (Con +Bxt)

MarshaBradyo · 13/12/2019 08:21

‘People didn’t trust the confetti of promises, it was Corbyn’ - on R4 now MP

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2019 08:21

It's a large majority - personally I class a landslide as 100+

It's what a plurality want, not a majority
Remain was split over several parties, not just Labour

Winners gloating and rubbing it in has rarely changed the opinion of losers
it just builds long-lasting anger and resentment in a country already split down the middle

Losing an election does not mean giving up on policies
It didn't for Tories during the Blair years - they just learned to disguise things with a husky-hugger
it shouldn't mean all the Remain parties give up, either
