PMK. I voted around mid morning. There was one elderly woman leaving as I went in. When I went down to the shop about half an hour later, there were three or so people coming out of the polling station. No idea if this constitutes a ‘rush’ of voters round here (very small rural town in West Wales - moved here in March.

Population of 1100 or thereabouts. Number on school roll (takes 3 to 16year olds) just over 300. Factor in maybe 100 or so children under the age of 3, that leaves a voting population of roughly 700. No idea what the turnout for elections here usually is. One thing I noticed - no tellers. I haven’t come across that before; probably because I lived in a massively large conurbation for 40 odd years.

I’ll be watching the results come in tonight (unless the exit polls are absolutely shite).

colouringinpro · 12/12/2019 18:08

How the exit poll is made. in case, like me, you didn't know

Election 2019: how is the exit poll made?

We had no queues, but a steady stream of people both in the morning and the evening (I drove past it twice). About 1/3 of registered voters here are postal, and school parents probably went later than I did.

ChristmassySpice · 12/12/2019 18:12

ClashCityRocker that sounds delicious! Hope it helps with having to endure some of the last minute desperate tory bot bullshit scary stuff tonight.

I've a feeling we may be infiltrated with the hate this evening (it's actually already started) as a PP has said, certain types are sore winners AND sore losers. And this is before the result.

Pan2 · 12/12/2019 18:13

Normally we vote one at a time round here.
When I went just now there was a queue of 7 people. 😲

Apileofballyhoo · 12/12/2019 18:14

It is for this reason that the Tory gerrymander in the guise of 'equal' constitiencies when the rates of voter registration are far from equal, is such a con job.

Are the constituencies not based on population?

I’ve voted. No queue, but definitely plenty of people coming and going.

Are the constituencies not based on population?
Yup, adult population, linked to the census

in an ideal world each vote would have the same weight in Westminster
but geography intervenes (eg Isle of Wight)

NigellasGuest · 12/12/2019 18:20

My DD who is at Uni says that lots of people her age are saying Go and vote on their instagram stories

Zofloramummy · 12/12/2019 18:21

Voted Green after much soul searching. My house is messy so planning an early hours election watching/ironing/cleaning combo.

Out normally quiet polling station was busy and lots of names already crossed out by 9. The polling lady said they were up on numbers.

placemats · 12/12/2019 18:28

To add, we voted in the pouring rain and the polling station, which is small, was full.

I remember asking about the turnout during the referendum and was told then the voting was brisk. It wasn't nearly as full then and it was good weather.

What happens will happen.

I predict that in order to keep us all up and watching the headlines will be too close to predict.

DeRigueurMortis · 12/12/2019 18:29

So DH and I have just voted.

Polling station (large village) wasn't packed but definitely busier than we usually see it.

Queue of 3 people in front of us, two behind and the queue length was staying pretty constant with new arrivals.

Hazardexhausted · 12/12/2019 18:35

I don't know if I'm staying up or what butif it looks like tory majority then im sleeping Or throwing up

Is it a full moon tonight? It's Friday the 13th tomorrow - unlucky for the few not the many?!

catitude · 12/12/2019 18:36

Just picked up my DD from uni for Christmas. All her friends have voted, they seem really engaged.

Piggywaspushed · 12/12/2019 18:38

I can't find a way to link to it but if you haven't seen the Bollywood Vote Labour ad it's vvvvv amusing and diverting!

bellinisurge · 12/12/2019 18:41

Thanks Red. I see alcohol in my near future.

Yes, it’s full moon tonight. Last one of the decade apparently.

borntobequiet · 12/12/2019 18:45

@Hazardexhausted - the moon app on my iPad seems to show a full moon. I was thinking about it driving home, with the moon appearing and disappearing behind ragged rain clouds.

Frankiestein402 · 12/12/2019 18:46

Re shoegate - I thought that asymettric footwear was 'in' - or is it 'out' now?

JazzyJelly · 12/12/2019 18:47

It was surprisingly busy in my (speaker's) constituency at around 6. We voted leave, and we have the chap who changed his middle name by deed poll to 'Brexit' standing, but Lindsay Hoyle is very well regarded around here.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 12/12/2019 18:49

Full moon followed by Friday 13th? 😱 Cracking combination.

What was the youth vote weighted at in the polls, by the way? I've a feeling it has been underestimated.

Hazardexhausted · 12/12/2019 18:50

Shock so it's a full moon, last of the decade running into Friday the 13th...

Well it's going to be an interesting night.

I'm scared.

Cars are have qued back to the road to get into small polling station car park (can see it from the house).
