I thought the Speaker’s seat went unopposed.

CurrerBell · 12/12/2019 18:54

I voted this morning in JRM's constituency. Not much to report apart from a bit of anti-Mogg graffiti in the polling booth. There is little love for him round here, but it hasn't been clear which of the NotTories to get behind and I fear the result will be hopelessly split. The tactical voting recommendations for Labour don't seem to match the Lib Dem support I'm seeing locally, but who knows... I do hope JRM's majority will be dented... YouGov had him on 49% a couple of days ago.

dontcallmelen · 12/12/2019 18:54

So did I Also

Stinkyeddie · 12/12/2019 18:55

Portents.

placemats · 12/12/2019 18:59

If things don't go as planned, there is always Santana.

Skies have cleared now.

DivisionBelles · 12/12/2019 18:59

Voted at 6pm. No queues, but a steady stream coming and going. Tactical Lib Dem vote for me. Only option in this neck of the woods.

Staying up to watch the telly tonight. We'll be flicking between Sky and C4. Both DC managed to get tickets to be in the audience tonight on their Alternative Election Night, so hoping to see them.

Delurking too and trying to catch up with reading. I had no idea when I would finish work today so DH and I went to vote first thing in the morning. Happy to notice that a lot of people seemed to have the same idea. We are in a seat which can go either way, Tory or SNP ( currently Tory MP, but a large Remain majority) so every vote will count. And yes, the two votes from our house went to SNP.

Dusty01 · 12/12/2019 19:12

Maybe they let the constituents vote anyway (in Speaker's seat) so they don't feel left out. I'd feel really left out if I wasn't allowed to vote at all.

Wynona · 12/12/2019 19:13

Very high turnout where I am. Lady said there had been 800+ votes at the polling station which is far more than normal.

53rdWay · 12/12/2019 19:15

The main parties don’t stand against the Speaker by tradition but other parties/independents do.

Anyone feeling desperate and hopeless - look this up on Twitter

Oh - I see Flouncyfanny - thank you for explaining.

PawFives · 12/12/2019 19:17

PMK
Voted here Tory/Lab marginal (Yorks) - quite nice to be a marginal as feel as though vote might make a difference. Polling station busy-ish considering weather but it’s never been as busy as it was for the EU referendum. We received loads of Tory & Labour leaflets during the campaign - well all Tory ones addressed to DH only maybe middle aged women aren’t their demographic! (Well this one isn’t 🤣). Feeling on edge a bit now....it’s going to be a long night.

JazzyJelly · 12/12/2019 19:17

No, just unopposed by the main parties. We have a green and an abandoned ex-brexit, now independent running against him.

OopNorfDahnSarf · 12/12/2019 19:18

Voted in my Tory Remain constituency. The tellers say they were busier than usual. Tactical voting says vote Lib Dem. We shall see.
Can someone post the link to the result times from 2017?

Stinkyeddie · 12/12/2019 19:18

I think there could be some shocks....
Oh, to see ids, raab and bojo lose their seats!!!!
But....it's the hope that'll kill ya

BatSegundo · 12/12/2019 19:19

Delurking to say thank you once again to red and all the regulars for keeping me sane and a damn sight better informed than pre-referendum.

Voted earlier for my fab labour mp who does a great job locally, so that was an easy choice. Turnout was apparently high (45%ish by 2pm in a constituency that was 65% overall in 2017). Safe labour seat. Make of that what you will.

Can't stay up tonight as I have been called into work to support with something harrowing so need to be on my a game. Probably good that I won't be staying up, as has been pointed out, it's the hope that kills you...

Stinkyeddie · 12/12/2019 19:20

I'm at a funeral tomorrow...

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 12/12/2019 19:21

Just been looking at Youthquake on Twitter. I’ve never seen queues like this at polling stations before and I’m 56. Specifically of that age. 🙏🙏🙏

I just daren’t breathe. The Tories have screwed them and the Millennials. Boris deserves everything he gets. I’m glad this is worrying him. Really fucking glad

Grinchly · 12/12/2019 19:21

Voted. Same steady flow of people I have observed before. Asked about turnout and they were very cagey indeed. Maybe not really supposed to comment?
