I don't disagree with you Listening Quietly - I understand exactly what the dangers are.

But I still think the number of older feminists in lib dem/ tory marginals who were going to vote tactically to keep a tory out but now absolutely will not and so will risk brexit and a swing to the hard right, further austerity and depleted resources - all of which women will bear the brunt of - based on a policy that a party which has no chance of getting in power and no chance of implementing holds will be a negligible amount of people.

I know all the arguments - I agree with them - but I've never heard anyone mention trans people out in the real world. Most people are not going to be swayed one way or the other by this policy.

thecatfromjapan · 04/12/2019 21:16

We really could do with some other famous non-politicians braving the cold and coming out for tactical voting.

There must be some other actors who would follow his example?

Outsomnia · 04/12/2019 21:17

As I thought, Brexit means nothing now. They played it well so.

Honestly. This time last year Brexit was full on. No more really. As can be seen.

dreichXmas · 04/12/2019 21:17

I'm GC but still voted Lib Dem because it is only one thing, albeit a very annoying thing.
I don't think it is a significant issue for most people.

ListeningQuietly · 04/12/2019 21:18

I know all the arguments - I agree with them - but I've never heard anyone mention trans people out in the real world.
We must move in different circles
its a big issue on my FB and RL news - and has caused changes in tactical voting by friends in several constituencies

BUT
we all agree that Brexit comes first
because if that goes wrong, all else is hot air

Icantreachthepretzels · 04/12/2019 21:18

Sorry Listening Quietly - I misread your post. I thought you were saying more people would be bothered by it - I think you were actually saying the exact opposite. Literally - I skimmed over one word ('only') and misconstrued your entire post . Soz!

chomalungma · 04/12/2019 21:19

There must be some other actors who would follow his example

But not Eddie Izzard....

colouringinpro · 04/12/2019 21:20

Well Hugh has gone up in my estimation as a resulting of his campaigning for tactical voting. Wish there were more like him!

Piggywaspushed · 04/12/2019 21:21

I should probably say at this point that my DSis is transgender , as is the manager of my M and S and my friend's partner...

Peregrina · 04/12/2019 21:25

For those who need to vote tactically but are in a seat where pigs with blue rosettes get in the swap my vote site has gone live.

thecatfromjapan · 04/12/2019 21:28

Well, I really am sorry I brought that up as a subject.

💐

Icantreachthepretzels · 04/12/2019 21:28

It's not just the WASPI women that Labour are promising to give their pensions' back to.

twitter.com/UKLabour/status/1201547554992873472

You can't say they've turned their back on their core vote!

ListeningQuietly · 04/12/2019 21:30

Piggy
Please do not assume I am against those who need / wish to change their gender.
My worry is self ID at the expense of women.

Those who truly need / want to be the new person should have no problem with proving a permanent change
and be willing to accept restrictions linked to past criminal behaviour.

But sadly woke has wriggled its way into the heart of parties who really should stick to
evidence based decision making

PS
Brexit, Climate Change, Education reforms, Universal credit etc ad nauseam
should also be based on
evidence based decisions

ListeningQuietly · 04/12/2019 21:34

thecatfromjapan
All topics are valid for discussion where they link back to party policy
and Gender is one of the ones where HQ staff are often out of kilter with branches and voters.
In many issues, party HQs have led the country in directions that made sense eg Gay marriage and womens rights
but in this one there are more victims than beneficiaries so it will be more of a struggle ....

the bubble need to get out into the sticks more

which is the whole story of Brexit Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Piggywaspushed · 04/12/2019 21:34

It's all right, I'm not offended.

Icantreachthepretzels · 04/12/2019 21:35

OK this is funny - but the end is gross

twitter.com/jeremycorbyn/status/1201522329421045760

I'm scrolling through JC's twitter feed. I could cry. Everything they're offering sounds so wonderful - we could have such a wonderful country ... and we're gonna elect that thatch headed fatberg and destroy everything.

I agree. I think everybody should vote Labour if they want to.

Am I the only hopeful person here? Keep reading everybody’s fear and gloomy predictions, thinking I must be deluded. I think we’re in with a good chance of getting rid of BJ or at least preventing the Tories from getting a majority.

thecatfromjapan · 04/12/2019 21:42

The tactical vote sites are very clear and helpful in many seats but there are a few which are weird, mother.

Have you checked them recently?

I know there is one London seat that has a range of suggestions but they've all been updated and say the same thing now.

So information is being changed.

I know one initial problem was sometimes an over-reliance on EU ref data.

Mind you, if you're in a Tory safe seat ...

piggy thank you.

KeithPartridge · 04/12/2019 21:44

Just had a Sinn Fein canvasser at the door....DH answered and SF said, Give this to Keith. This is for Keith'.
😂😂😂😂😂 DH was like a nodding dog....I do love progressive parties sometimes.

It's me.

Think it may be flu. And have lost my voice.

I'm very irritated.

Icantreachthepretzels · 04/12/2019 21:49

Mother that looks like pig in a blue rosette territory by the numbers. The thinking behind the tactical vote might be more aimed at the usual tory voters than the other side. People who fundamentally won't vote for JC being encouraged to vote Lib dem and so reduce the tory majority.

After all - there's two ways to reduce a majority - 1) everyone from the opposing teams coalesce together under one banner (still only gives 17000) or 2) siphon of votes from the winner.

Looks like in your case the tacticals are going for 2. Probably still won't be enough to unseat the tory - given those numbers - but it could well close the gap between labour and tory by making the tory numbers smaller.
