Jo Swinson being interviewed by Andrew Neil is on tonight, if he brings up her views on trans issues she is going to have a very difficult time.

thecatfromjapan · 04/12/2019 17:01

Thanks, StinkyEddie. 🙂

Violetparis · 04/12/2019 17:01

I also am rooting for Corbyn to do well, the BBC and the wealthy right wing press have made me furious, if Labour do better than expected (big if !) it's a big fuck you to the lot of them.

Icantreachthepretzels · 04/12/2019 17:05

It's OK cat - people inclined to vote lib dem are either on board with her or know full well that there's no chance of a lib dem govt so this policy doesn't matter.
Of those voting Lib dem tactically - most will fall into those two camps, with a healthy dollop of don't know what she's talking about/ care so will ignore thrown in for good measure.

The number of people who live in Lib dem/ con marginals who were planning to vote tactically but have followed the trans debate and place this tweet above the importance of voting out a tory will be negligible.

I think the policy is dangerous nonsense. But its not brexit level dangerous nonsense. If I were in a Lib dem/ tory marginal I would still be voting tactically (quite glad I'm not, though)

Pan2 · 04/12/2019 17:08

If Tories get a majority and it's in places where tactical voting would have made a difference then JC and Swinson will be culpable for the next 20 years of shit.

thecatfromjapan · 04/12/2019 17:10

That's good, Pretzels.

Icantreachthepretzels · 04/12/2019 17:13

If Tories get a majority and it's in places where tactical voting would have made a difference then JC and Swinson will be culpable for the next 20 years of shit.

Or the fault of all the people who knew they were supposed to vote tactically and couldn't bring themselves to do it.

No one party is going to offer everything you want or deliver nothing but policies you agree with.

It's on us to get this right. Because no one is coming to save us. Anyone who doesn't vote tactically is the problem.
And the problem is we expect absolute purity - so throw away the compromised positive's that are offered and get given shit in it's place.

Piggywaspushed · 04/12/2019 17:16

Now , don't get angry with me, people, but I do think the trans issue is not a big one outside of quite a small circle of women, heavily represented on some boards on MN. Outside of this , I think it is a very minor voting issue , if at all. I doubt it'll swing anything.

I am swung more by Swinson's views on Trident, given that she originally comes form bloody Helensburgh! A town blighted in places by nuclear submarine bases.

Violetparis · 04/12/2019 17:17

On here we mostly seem to be hoping for a hung Parliament as the most realistic, positive result. We had that before the election was called, the opposition parties in pushing for/agreeing to an election may well have messed this up badly.

dontcallmelen · 04/12/2019 17:17

I have never been a Corbyn fan particularly, have always voted labour though but if he does manage to form a government I would bloody well genuflect, the more I see of that lying twat Johnson on the tv the more I want a labour victory, I’m heartsick after seeing the dispatch programme on child poverty/food banks & all the other wrongs inflicted on so many vulnerable people, I’m so depressed today finding it difficult to remain positive.

squid4 · 04/12/2019 17:18

I'm on night shifts but not sleeping very well

Handover is the usual "we're short nurses on the wards and doctors in A&E and we have minus 23 beds". I don't react much. You do what you can do, some nights it feels like the sorta war zone medicine I admired so much in med school but knew I wasn't tough enough for, other nights are not so bad

Everyone seems very depressed on here, though I can't really keep up

DP is being generally quite upbeat, he is following polls and stats quite closely and thinks it's all demoralising lies (I think he is also bouyed by how ALL his tory voting mates are refusing to vote tory this time). Maybe he is being upbeat to try and keep me going.

Under 35s seem unusually engaged to me this election, and I think modern methods of communication eg whatsapp/snapchat may help get out the vote, if that makes a difference

We have cancelled our bbc tv licence and sent a complaint, about the doctoring of videos and the refusal to hold the government to scrutiny. other countries are commenting on the bbc propping up the tories now. What a state of affairs.

two more night shifts then working long shifts right the way through to the election. I'm going to be crying with complete exhaustion on election night whichever way it goes.

dontcallmelen · 04/12/2019 17:21

Oh Squid sending you a bloody great hug 💐🍫

thecatfromjapan · 04/12/2019 17:21

You're cheering me up, too, Piggy.

I'm lying in bed, fretting about the horror of a Johnson government - and unable to do anything to displace that anxiety through activism.

thecatfromjapan · 04/12/2019 17:22

Yep. 🍫 for Squid.

Pan2 · 04/12/2019 17:22

But JC and Swinson have refused to support tactical voting and remove their own candidates in key Tory marginals. If they said country first and get these bastards out that would be a good position. NOT we are the only ones who can beat them. Which is shite. History will be harsh.

DGRossetti · 04/12/2019 17:22

Or say they're not ...

Had a friend who claimed he'd never vote Tory again in 2015. Sadly he forgot he'd plastered it all over FB and when he tried to say the same thing again in 2017 (presumably to appear "right on" with his kids) he was slaughtered for it.

DGRossetti · 04/12/2019 17:24

We have cancelled our bbc tv licence

But then you lose access to some pretty good (if overblown) documentaries. Looking forward to "To Kill A King" week after next ....

squid4 · 04/12/2019 17:24

No they're quite upset about it. DP was always the mocked outlier in that group for not being a rightwinger

Alsohuman · 04/12/2019 17:24

Please DGR, don’t kick a woman when she’s down.

Icantreachthepretzels · 04/12/2019 17:24

I'm inclined to agree. It won't be a vote winner - but it won't be a big vote loser either. Most people will ignore and focus on what really matters to them - which hopefully will be brexit/ the NHS and getting out the tories.

squid4 · 04/12/2019 17:25

I know... I think I was watching His Dark Materials... is that BBC

JustAnotherPoster00 · 04/12/2019 17:27

Squid I'm raiding BCF lindt drawer just for you Grin

Solidarity to you squid, you are in my mind a lot and I'm sorry for the burden you bear for us all, thank you Flowers

thecatfromjapan · 04/12/2019 17:27

I know, Pan. I find myself getting quite upset about that.

squid4 · 04/12/2019 17:28

haha if I ate chocolate every time I was on nights I would get so fat Grin
I am very disciplined about no crap food on night shifts! -and then I carb load after they're over-

tobee · 04/12/2019 17:29

Interesting to see the pro comments on Jo Swinson's Twitter re trans are from men (as far as I read)
