Tonight 10pm

YouGov MRP.

First big poll

Rumour is that it shows a big tory majority.

This would fit with two MRP polls that are already out if accurate.

Datapraxis is suggesting a Tory majority of 48.

Best for Britain (Pro remain) is suggesting a majority of 57.

www.newscientist.com/article/2224783-what-is-mrp-and-can-it-predict-the-result-of-the-uk-general-election/
What is MRP and can it predict the result of the UK general election?

It stands for multi-level regression and post-stratification. Its a polling method which uses demographic data to work out how people will vote. YouGov used it to accurately predict the 2017 result and the method was used to predict the 2016 US election.

Told you: the country isn't about to let a bunch of far-left loons seize power without a fight.

That is all Smile

Apileofballyhoo · 27/11/2019 22:46

I don't know what to say. Don't give up.

Hazardexhausted · 27/11/2019 22:47

singingbab not a complete straw clutch. The impact of today wouldn't have had full effect and if that gains a momentum...???

My seat has swung from a predicted Tory flip to sticking with lavour this past week.

Hazardexhausted · 27/11/2019 22:47

Labour*

sunglasses123 · 27/11/2019 22:49

So think it is great news (dons tin hat and makes a run for it!).

Corbyn has been useless for Labour, McDonnell even worse. Corbyn last night was a disaster probably because he does little in the way of interviews. He loves to preach to his cult but he was out of his depth yesterday. Didn’t know what % of tax revenue the higher earners brought in. Clearly didn’t care. Didn’t seem to recognise that the millionaires and billionaires would leave the country. It shows how thick he is. Didn’t have an answer re the funding for the Waspi women.

He needs to retire very soon and someone more moderate needs to come in and if that doesn’t happen Labour will be in opposition for another generation.

longtimelurkerhelen · 27/11/2019 22:51

@CendrillonSings

I can see you are a tory supporter. Would you mind sharing your thoughts on which policies you agree with? Please help me understand.

ListeningQuietly · 27/11/2019 22:53

I heard Alan Johnson discussing adult social care on PM as I drove home today
he clearly loathes Corbyn
but loathes Bozo and the damage he will bring much much much more

if we can get a hung parliament
Bozo cannot destroy the country
and Corbyn is out on his arse
at which point we might get a Labour leader who can grind the ERG into the ground
and save the country

3dogs2cats · 27/11/2019 22:53

Listeningquietly, living up to your name. I totally agree, that reasonable questions and respectfulness are the way to be, although JC has always been that way and oh my word, the shit raining down on his head. I am going to deliver leaflets, but the thought of canvassing turns my insides to jelly.
I actually feel ok now I’ve seen the YouGov stuff, and we mustn’t forget that it belongs to a Tory minister. I think they have seriously underestimated the depth of disgust in Surrey, for example, Ive got centrist relatives who have publicly bemoaned but secretly approved of the stinking majority for blue in their suburbs and now they are out campaigning forthe Libdems.
Also if the Tories find their voters have moved North, they may just have to be a bit less naked in their wealthy Southern bias. And the changes in the past few days are not fully accounted for. So don’t believe it will be this bad, maybe I just need more time to accept it.

sunglasses123 · 27/11/2019 22:53

I was a supplier to all parts of government for over 30 years. I wouldnt trust them to make a decision even when millions are at stake. £££ were being wasted due to their inability to make a decision. More state ownership would be a nightmare.

3dogs2cats · 27/11/2019 22:54

Stonking, not stinking.

sunglasses123 · 27/11/2019 22:59

Labour need to look at their most successful leader in recent times - Tony Blair who got a 150 majority. He got something right (and he had a scary wife!!)

Icantreachthepretzels · 27/11/2019 23:20

(and he had a scary wife!!)

nice bit of casual misogyny there Hmm

CendrillonSings · 27/11/2019 23:20

Tony Blair who got a 150 majority. He got something right

Yep - he wasn't a socialist who wanted to tax the living shite out of us, nor an ideological extremist. That's why his name is mud in the eyes of the Corbyn cult!

sunglasses123 · 27/11/2019 23:26

Well let’s hope Boris keeps his lead in the polls. Then let’s do Brexit and start working on the other issues. Labour would have us tied up in another vote and 2020 would be completely wasted.

ListeningQuietly

Your post at 22.20 is a disgrace.

PigeonofDoom · 27/11/2019 23:38

There is no “do brexit”, it will rumble on for years. Leaving is just the start. If the country wanted to focus on actually running itself rather than trade deals for the next decade then it shouldn’t have voted to leave. “Get brexit done”, what a load of shite. Start brexit, more like. 2020 will be wasted on it, just like the last 3 years.

derxa · 27/11/2019 23:38

.

prettybird · 27/11/2019 23:39

I'm also on YouGov and haven't been polled for months on my political views Hmm

Probably got crossed off their list when I asserted I was 100% going to vote and 100% wasn't going to change my mind Wink

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 27/11/2019 23:40

Well said singinglily. My mind is blown.

I never ever post here, as I know what will happen and I’m generally happy to stay in my lane. But fuck me... that’s an awful post.

Hazardexhausted · 27/11/2019 23:40

www.torystory.uk/

I read a story yesterday about a british type one diabetic who died from a lack of insulin. He had insulin but he had no money for his electricity metre after being sanctioned at the jobcentre. His insulin went off because he couldn't keep it cool.

Let's get brexit done and err sort other issues like resurrecting the dead Hmm

SingingLily · 27/11/2019 23:41

I can't see anyone else who has challenged ListeningQuietly's post of 22.20.

Why not?

I am appalled.

Ellie56 · 27/11/2019 23:42

I was polled this morning by Yougov. I said I was 100% certain I would vote and would vote Labour. I also ticked the Tory Brexit box for the worst thing that could happen to this country.

RedToothBrush · 27/11/2019 23:45

I don't think this will go the way of the last election. Simply because the disgust for Johnson in 2019 doesn't motivate in the same way that hope for Corbyn did in 2017.

I do think there will be a tory majority. I don't think it will be as big as YouGov are expecting.

I think around the 30 seat mark is where I'd peg it.

I'm very unsurprised by the LD squeeze. When push comes to shove, more LD voters would prefer a hung parliament than a tory one. And since no one thinks a Labour majority is likely its a vote that seems tactically to make sense. Even if that means Corbyn in charge simply because he'd have to work with others.

I am aware of LD councillors who voted LD in 2017 who intend to vote Labour as a result.

The LDs thought they could challenge for the seat but its been a damp squib and even the usual LD signs have not gone up. Too many local activists think if the campaign that results in the seat going blue.

We shall see. The tide is in Labours favour but its come late and we have not enough time to get rid of that majority.
