Tonight 10pm

YouGov MRP.

First big poll

Rumour is that it shows a big tory majority.

This would fit with two MRP polls that are already out if accurate.

Datapraxis is suggesting a Tory majority of 48.

Best for Britain (Pro remain) is suggesting a majority of 57.

www.newscientist.com/article/2224783-what-is-mrp-and-can-it-predict-the-result-of-the-uk-general-election/
What is MRP and can it predict the result of the UK general election?

It stands for multi-level regression and post-stratification. Its a polling method which uses demographic data to work out how people will vote. YouGov used it to accurately predict the 2017 result and the method was used to predict the 2016 US election.

High level of support with whom? Corbynomics has mainly been comedy.

ArseDarkly · 28/11/2019 15:30

Who am I falsely accusing of antisemitism?

Corbyn. Momentum. Those who criticize the actions of Israel. Those who state that they are 'anti-zionist'. probably missed a few but that's enough to be going on with

BigChocFrenzy · 28/11/2019 15:32

but Labour is a socialist party, a party of the left, not a centrist one
There is no point to their existence if they just replace the LDems at the centre

They can choose a less dim leader without a dodgy past - who would still get hammered

Miliband was a very moderate leader, but was soon demonised, including iirc criticism from the Jewish Chronicle and / or Chief Rabbi

The papers now crying crocodile tears over anti-semitism are the same ones who made so much of his "suspect" family background and that bacon sandwich

JustAnotherPoster00 · 28/11/2019 15:32

And Corbynomics as you refer to it is better known as Keynesian economics and had they been implemented instead of austerity Britain would be in a lot better position than we are now

TatianaLarina · 28/11/2019 15:32

As if rail nationalisation was the full story.

BatSegundo · 28/11/2019 15:36

Agreed greykitten. But Cameron, for all his odiousness, at least seemed sensible and presentable. Milliband would have stood more chance against May or Johnson. People were still pissed off with Blair and the recession which the Tory's were able to pin on labour. There was an open goal in 2017 and there certainly is now. A better leader would be picking up more votes.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 28/11/2019 15:36

As if rail nationalisation was the full story.

Strangely I thought that too thats why I included the 2nd link thank you for noticing

JustAnotherPoster00 · 28/11/2019 15:37

A better leader would be picking up more votes.

Yes I agree thats the narrative that the polls and media are giving us isnt it

bellinisurge · 28/11/2019 15:39

I think the 2017 general election told us that too.

Stinkyeddie · 28/11/2019 15:41

dg
I stated why I think women like that don't vote.
I could be wrong, of course.

bellinisurge · 28/11/2019 15:42

@ArseDarkly Corbyn? He's certainly"unlucky " in his friendships. Or a useful idiot for some bad bastards. That mural? Not obviously antisemitic? Really?
Momentum? Chris Williamson types.
Do I want to shut down criticism of current Israeli foreign policy? No. But all the Jews in the world are not responsible for that.

BigChocFrenzy · 28/11/2019 15:42

Cameron sensible ! 😂
The fucking irresponsible fool caused this entire Brexit clusterfuck, with his austerity followed by his referendum

Ed Miliband was miles better than the smarmy Bullingdon Boy Cameron

  • and of course so much better than the current Bullingdon Boy too

Just think how different the last 4 years woukd have been if Miliband had won

Westminstenders: Massive Rightwing Plot?
TatianaLarina · 28/11/2019 15:44

Maybe the only way the left can get elected is not to be left

It is to be central enough to lure soft Tories and use power to enact left policies.

TatianaLarina · 28/11/2019 15:46

Labour didn't win in 2015, with a Jewish leader, a fairly centrist platform, and after five years of austerity.

He wasn’t a very convincing leader though. I think Labour were hammered in 2010 and 2015 for the Iraq war.

BatSegundo · 28/11/2019 15:48

I did say seemed sensible, BigChoc. GrinThe fact that he went on to fuck this country royally through his own arrogance proves that looks can be somewhat deceptive....

Tanith · 28/11/2019 15:48

The local Conservatives have taken to criticising the LibDem candidate (their biggest threat for years) for posting so many leaflets through our doors. Environmental concerns and all that.

A shame they can't persuade their leader to debate environmental issues, isn't it?

Icantreachthepretzels · 28/11/2019 15:49

#bbcimpartiality is trending on twitter.

People tweeting about the BBC refusing to cover all the shady shit Boris does and says, not having him interviewed by Andrew Neil etc but taking the time to show him on the campaign trail eating scones. He puts the jam on first because it's an adhesive.

But in good news - Boris just alienates the whole of Devon in one fell swoop Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 28/11/2019 15:54

The country is going through a hard right nationalist spasm, so no Labour leader was ever going to do well

Interesting that Soros is the bogeyman for many hardcore Brexiters - who feel victims of a "Liberal elite" - for being behind the efforts to delay Brexit

They'll probably blame him - even if he's dead - when no Brexit unicorns appear, but some JIT manufacturers disappear, unemployment and prices rise, recession ...

In which case, I expect anti-semitism to ramp up in all parties in the next few years, whoever the leaders are

Icantreachthepretzels · 28/11/2019 15:55

CendrillonSings · 28/11/2019 15:58

Maybe the only way the left can get elected is not to be left

That is the empirical evidence of the last 45 years of UK electoral history, so, er, yeah.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 28/11/2019 16:01

I think the 2017 general election told us that too.

Remind me, is that the one May got a hundred seat majority that was predicted?

TatianaLarina · 28/11/2019 16:02

The country is going through a hard right nationalist spasm, so no Labour leader was ever going to do well

That’s certainly true. And arguably left Labour rode a left leaning spasm after we were all worn down by years of Tory rule. But I do think Starmer or Cooper would have had better chance against Boris than Corbyn.

Interesting that Soros is the bogeyman for many hardcore Brexiters - who feel victims of a "Liberal elite" - for being behind the efforts to delay Brexit

He’s one of the elite Jewish financiers in Corbyn’s mural. I mean his ‘type’ not ‘literally’.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 28/11/2019 16:02

thank you for that thread pretzels I immediately followed
