Tonight 10pm

YouGov MRP.

First big poll

Rumour is that it shows a big tory majority.

This would fit with two MRP polls that are already out if accurate.

Datapraxis is suggesting a Tory majority of 48.

Best for Britain (Pro remain) is suggesting a majority of 57.

What is MRP and can it predict the result of the UK general election?

It stands for multi-level regression and post-stratification. Its a polling method which uses demographic data to work out how people will vote. YouGov used it to accurately predict the 2017 result and the method was used to predict the 2016 US election.

I don't trust the polls at all.

3dogs2cats · 28/11/2019 09:33

Thank you Squid.

Random18 · 28/11/2019 09:35

pretty most likely. But I would be surprised if many Scots are overly shocked about the charges he is facing.

He was never popular the party he was leader of was.

I can't see that this has harmed the SNP.

And i was never aware that he got the personal abuse that Nicola does. Suspect that it's because 1/ she is a woman 2/ her opponents feel very threatened by her.

HoneyandSpice · 28/11/2019 09:36

Thanks for that Squid. An amazing attitude and great positivity, despite the utter shit you've been having to deal with at work. And much strength to you to keep going too!

Ellie56 · 28/11/2019 09:39

Keep going @squid4 . You and your colleagues are doing amazing work.

Stinkyeddie · 28/11/2019 09:39

Not sure you can accuse the BBC of colluding on the Neil thing. It's Corbyn's team's fault for not getting it in writing that Johnson has signed up. Neil would eviscerate Johnson, which is why he's not doing an interview.

The BBC had absolutely no business broadcasting any of the leaders’ interviews until they’d recorded all of them. Of course they’re complicit.

Mistigri · 28/11/2019 09:45

If the polls are wrong, there is also a version of the future in which they are wrong in the Tories' favour. Error bars do not only work in one direction!

It is plausible that the polls will narrow and that more young people voting will buck the trend. I don't know that this is probable though.

Katharinblum · 28/11/2019 09:45

JustAnotherPoster00 I'm half jewish and voting labour too

Mistigri · 28/11/2019 09:46

Squid - please look after yourself! Thanks

squid4 · 28/11/2019 09:47

Error bars work in the direction of the person designing the poll to say what they want it to.

squid4 · 28/11/2019 09:47

Thanks, the atmosphere at work is a bit grim and end of the world ish.

squid4 · 28/11/2019 09:48

I cuddle my kids and cry some in the evenings. When I'm not working the evenings...

I 100% agree with this.

The video editing fails were unfortunate and IMO probably not a conspiracy. This OTOH looks like a flagrant breach of their charter obligations.

No one cares though. Your institutions are crumbling and I'm not just talking about the NHS.

Apileofballyhoo · 28/11/2019 09:49

Squid if you can have hope, everyone can. Flowers

JustAnotherPoster00 · 28/11/2019 09:50

JustAnotherPoster00 I'm half jewish and voting labour too

I wish MN had an edit button I was meant to add by Micheal Rosen on it because I'm not jewish, I should ask MNHQ to delete dont want to add to any confusion

Apileofballyhoo · 28/11/2019 09:54

Re Boris this year on Remembrance Day rather than looking far better 2 years ago - somebody pointed out in a previous thread that at work in BBC news, recent footage is right in front of you, but older footage has to be requested. That would make it a deliberate action rather than a 'mistake'.

HateIsNotGood · 28/11/2019 09:55

Misti I understand you live in the EU but I assumed that given your interest in Brexit and your eagerness to explain things and advise us that you were a UK National too and would be voting in the GE.

I'm not so sure now as you state how "your" institutions are crumbling - aren't they your institutions too?

Random18 · 28/11/2019 09:55

Apile I would have thought that it would have been archived.

I obviously don't know the BBC policies in archiving but surely if all the video footage going back years was readily available their systems would struggle to cope.

bellinisurge · 28/11/2019 09:56

The poll that is freaking you all out was finished before Corbyn's interview by Andre Neil. I watched some of it on catchup and couldn't get further than his refusal to apologise to the Jewish community in the UK for all the hurt and worry. I wanted to give Corbyn a fair hearing. I dislike Neil and know his type so I was prepared to see through his grandstanding bollocks and listen to Corbyn.
I just couldn't stomach it any more. He made me feel slightly sick. That was easy "I am sorry". And he didn't do it.

Apileofballyhoo · 28/11/2019 09:57

Exactly, Random. Hard to view it as a mistake for that reason.

Why did the BBC’s
@bbclaurak
link her million followers to Cummings’ smear-fest of a blog without reporting the basic news — that he’d resigned from No 10. Once again, like Cambridge Analytica, Vote Leave and Bannon scandals, the national broadcaster is being gamed.

Mistigri · 28/11/2019 10:03

Hate - I am a British national, as it happens. But so what? Are you suggesting that people who don't have the right nationality label shouldn't have an opinion? Because that sounds a bit ... well, racist. I'm sure you don't mean it that way though! What with hate not being good 'n' all that.

lonelyplanetmum · 28/11/2019 10:06

An aside - it's true that the new Tory aficionados /visitors' sudden and brief flurries of contributions should be regarded as a compliment.

The thing I don't get is why there's an influx whenever the news for them is good? They seemed rattled by victory. That's a bit weird.
