Westminstenders: Register to Vote

The closing date for registration is this Tuesday

The weekend has seen the leaders question time debates.

Johnson failed to answer a question and the BBC edited later edited footage to change laughter at him to applause.

Swinson continues to prove that the Lib Dem campaign planners don't understand the electorate. They based the campaign around her and the more the public see her and the more she opens her gob she proves she's the witless headgirl who really knows fuck all.

Corbyn has now adopted a neutral 2nd referendum position. Far too late.

Jo Johnson apparently said that a good election manifesto is one people aren’t talking about 48 hrs later, and it seems that the Conservatives really have gone for that strategy.

Johnson had promised a manifesto for change yet of the three main parties it seems far from that. It avoids controversy for the most part, but also doesn't offer solutions to some of our biggest problems like social care. But with the Tories so ahead in the polls, the status quo and making sure they don't have a repeat of the 'dementia tax' car crash seems to be the order of the day. Because Brexit is going to going to provide a magic solution instead...

Meanwhile the Labour Party have gone completely the other way and really have gone for it and come up with ideas. With a mixed response from the public and press.

And I still can't tell you what is in the LD one, cos Prince Andrew...

This week should see the election come into focus as postal voting starts. As it stands its hard to bet on anything but a Tory majority.

Thing is @derxa, none of us can have everything we want. We have to prioritise our wants and vote for who will give us the most important ones. That sounds really patronising, it’s not meant to be.

I'm used to being patronised on here it's no skin off my nose. Hell will freeze over before I endorse Jeremy and his cabinet. I want them gone and the ERG
No one's explained how easy this new deal will be. At best Labour will have no majority and confidence and supply with wee Nippy.

Alsohuman · 25/11/2019 17:07

Well you can’t get rid of Corbyn and the ERG, which do you want to see the back of most?

yolofish · 25/11/2019 17:07

I hate that people call NS 'wee nippy'. To me, that is REALLY patronising.

derxa I have every sympathy with, and affection for, farmers - that's why we can't just 'get Brexit done' because it will fuck us all over - farmers, plumbers, nurses, office workers - all of us.

dreichwinter · 25/11/2019 17:13

wee nippy is sexist claptrap.
It's absolutely fine to say that you disagree with her separatist stance, you don't actually think that Scotland is being run that well, healthcare and the educational system aren't where they should be etc.
But wee nippy is just a cheap, sexist dog whistle of a phrase.

Business would like certainty as well. The Lib Dems offer the most certainty. Every other party offers on going negotiating including the conservatives. Brexit will take at least a decade to sort out. Trade deals take a long time.

derxa · 25/11/2019 17:16

Yet more patronising. I don't want a hard Brexit or indeed any Brexit but we need some sort of progress. The polls are against Labour getting a majority
How long will this Labour process take?

yolofish · 25/11/2019 17:21

I dont understand why that's patronising? I desperately do not want Brexit, but if we have to I will take the softest possible which seems to be the Lab option - protect workers rights, remain in the SM etc - and then choose between that or Remain.

To me, it seems better to take 6-9-12 months to sort that out rather than shoot all our own toes off in a search for finality, which wont actually be that.

Mistigri · 25/11/2019 17:21

How long will the Tory process take?

Any Brexit will take years. Soft Brexit will be quicker than a hard Brexit, if you can find a parliamentary majority for it: the EU could rewrite the political declaration in days. Either of the existing withdrawal agreements could be used as a basis for a soft Brexit deal, because the actual deal is done after Brexit not before.

I appreciate that you want certainty, but that is not on offer.

derxa · 25/11/2019 17:21

wee nippy is sexist claptrap. Oh give over. NS is the best political leader in Britain at the moment. She's worth twice of Boris and Jeremy.

dreichwinter · 25/11/2019 17:25

Sorry I wasn't clear, I believe calling her wee nippy to be highly sexist in its use of language about her.

I have no issues with people who disagree with her policies or record in government doing so but calling her wee nippy is I believe rooted in sexism,

Piggywaspushed · 25/11/2019 17:25

PMK

Mistigri · 25/11/2019 17:26

Depressing that the "oven ready Brexit" bollocks is being swallowed whole by people who are politically switched on.

"Oven ready" is about right, but not in the way Boris means: once we are in transition, and all leverage has been surrendered, we'll be all trussed up like a turkey at Christmas.

derxa · 25/11/2019 17:26

farmers, plumbers, nurses, office workers yolo Are you any of these workers? What do you do?

Piggywaspushed · 25/11/2019 17:27

I agree dreich.

Where does the nippy come from?

I debated against Nicola at school : she is also not particularly wee. That is also demeaning.

She was a fearsome rival even then!!

Mistigri · 25/11/2019 17:29

Polls are tightening, by the way.

Two last night with the gap closing (but still over 10%) and now one with the gap at 7% ie into hung parliament territory.

Piggywaspushed · 25/11/2019 17:31

I can't help but be reminded of the Fat Controller when Boris Johnson keeps going on about 'dither and delay' : for any other Thomas the Tank Engine aficionados out there!

Mistigri · 25/11/2019 17:40

I wonder if this is Squid's hospital?

Account of a Johnson hospital visit, from a staff member:

Yes, saw this mentioned in a comment on the Daily Mail site. Today the comments were very anti-Johnson which was a surprise.

If the conspiracy theory that the Tories need to lose this election to avoid being blamed for the next five years are true, then it needs to be done properly and appear "natural". It might be the difference between Boris in opposition, or Boris in a ditch for real.

Speaking of which, that phrase kept popping up in Russell Howards "Recalibrate" show - filmed in 2018 Hmm

ListeningQuietly · 25/11/2019 17:47

If Corbyn asks for a SM/CU Brexit Deal, the EU will deliver it in days
they have it oven ready

If he can then get it through the house we'd have BINO
and if there was then a referendum between No Brexit and BINO I do not really care which result wins.

Except that we'd have wasted 4 years with this shit to get back to where we started
(see the May 2016 campaign quotes)

thecatfromjapan · 25/11/2019 17:48

That's awful, Mistgirl. I'm glad s/he spoke out.

Mistigri · 25/11/2019 17:50

Cat, tbh I'm no longer easily shocked but that was compelling stuff.

Alsohuman · 25/11/2019 17:51

Oh give over. NS is the best political leader in Britain at the moment. She's worth twice of Boris and Jeremy

Then why insult her with a nasty snippy little nickname?

Alsohuman · 25/11/2019 17:58

That doctor’s testimony is absolutely chilling. The awful thing is that none of it surprises me.
