Westministenders: Promises, promises

We should see the party manifestos soon
in 2017, that changed the election

So far, Tory and Labour have been competing for who can offer the most spending on the NHS

Labour have been giving tantalising glimpses of free dental care and free broadband

The Tories have been hinting at tax cuts, as well as public spending

The polls suggest the public like all of the above,
but also that Brexit is the most important issue

25 days to go, still all to play for

That's disgraceful dirty tricks by the Tories, Kanel Angry

In an election campaign, those actions should be treated as the next worst thing to hacking and punished accordingly
It's much worse than trying to bribe / pressure candidates to stand down, which is already a criminal offence

First comment on the Twitter thread is priceless ...

"Truly this is the first sign of the apocalypse"

I thought this last Saturday night when I found the Lindt drawer was empty ShockSad

  • shops in Germany don't open again until Monday morning

Sunday, I experienced The Longest Day
Monday .... I took a big shopping bag ! Grin

OP posts:
QueenOfThorns · 21/11/2019 14:25

BCF, you have a whole drawer just for Lindt? Shock

I hope it’s a really big one!

FadingStar · 21/11/2019 14:28

The gospel at mass the other day was about looking for the signs of the times before the apocalypse...all kinds of calumny and persecution and suffering. Tories getting in would definitely fit the bill!

Dusty01 · 21/11/2019 14:45

One of my face book pages belongs to my cat too.

Peregrina · 21/11/2019 14:51

Doesn't Larry the cat have a facebook page, and the Irish border too? Or are they twitter pages?

Now you have to admit that either of these two could make a better job of running the country than the present incumbents.

More lies, just in case you weren't aware that he lies

The claim: Boris Johnson unexpectedly unveiled the Conservatives' plan to raise the threshold at which people start paying National Insurance contributions. He said: "If we're lucky enough to be elected, so the first Budget we will go up to the £9,500 threshold and that will, as I say, put £500 into the pockets of everybody."
Reality Check verdict: That's not the correct figure. The Conservatives' own press release says the benefit from raising the threshold to £9,500 in 2020-21 would be £100 per year. The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) says it would be £85 per year.

Labour's single sex exemptions sound like good step forward. My best guess is that they will make the GRC easier, but tighten up the safeguarding languages (probably after the next scandal becomes apparent and the law gets blatantly abused).

Lib Dems on the other hand...oh boys.

tobee · 21/11/2019 15:12

I was thinking back to the good old days when Michael Howard was Tory leader and the Tories were the nasty party. How we were lulled into a false sense of security; that that was the was the first they could get; that therefore people didn't vote for them! Sad

tobee · 21/11/2019 15:14

*worst not first!!

DGRossetti · 21/11/2019 15:16

Labour's single sex exemptions sound like good step forward.

Does seem to have caught the imagination, briefly. Who knows, maybe the Tories really have missteped here ?

It's certainly generated some frothing on MN, in various places.

MockersFactCheckMN · 21/11/2019 15:25

Wooo-hoo!

Watching the Trump Impeachment Circus: Dr Fiona Hill, Geordie Lass. By eck she's good. Can we get her back as well as John Oliver?

Ellie56 · 21/11/2019 15:28

A Lindt drawer BCF? Wow! And how terrible that no shops were open on Sunday.

MockersFactCheckMN · 21/11/2019 15:29

Doesn't Larry the cat have a facebook page?

Larry is on Twitter where he says of the TV Debate,

“We send the EU £350m a week, let’s spend it on 80s neon lighting instead”

and

"Do I really have to live with one of these two?"

Dusty I think as long as you fly below the radar twitter and FB don't care. I have a public profile for work so I don't use my real name anywhere on social media.

"Tories lie bab" my nan told me, well she was right about that and that you always make tea in a pot and put milk in cup first.

MockersFactCheckMN · 21/11/2019 15:42

I've had a dodgy looking banner ad on here today. Big Red Splash covered in placard-type statemenst such as "Labour have no policy on Brexit" etc.

Am refreshing to try to get a screengrab.

Ellie56 · 21/11/2019 15:45

From the Independent:

dreichwinter · 21/11/2019 16:26

Sadly it's not cutting through yet with the republicans I know.
They know they shouldn't have voted for Trump (as he really doesn't share their values) but they did so anyway and have a strong emotional pull against admitting he has behaved in an impeachable way.

Icantreachthepretzels · 21/11/2019 16:27

Hey! Did anyone else click on Just's independent link about fake manifesto and find it kept crashing?
