Westminstenders: The Non-Pact Pact

The Brexit Party and the Conservatives have agreed a trumpian pact to no deal. Led by the ERG.

They don't want you to know its a pact because the Conservatives still want One Nation Conservatives types to believe they are still One Nation Conservatives, simply because they say they are. They are not.

The Brexit Party won't stand any candidates in a Conservative held seat. But don't be surprised if there isn't more Non-Pact tactical stepping aside. This of course won't be a Pact. Cos the Brexit Party say its not. And the Conservative Party say its not.

The Liberal Democrats, Plaid and the Greens are in an electoral pact. They say they are in an electoral pact and have published a list.

Meanwhile the Labour Party isn't in a Pact. But there is still talk that in key seats that someone (either the LDs or Labour) should stand aside to try and deseat key Conservatives. This won't happen because the Lib Dems and Labour are not in a pact. And when they say they are not in a pact they aren't.

If after an election we have a hung parliament then either the Conservatives or Labour who are not in a pact and say they will never be in a pact, will try and woo someone to a kingmaker and be in government with them, probably on a supply and demand basis rather than coalition. They'll deny this but we kind of know how this goes...

tobee · 14/11/2019 17:20

I checked my la but it's not exactly up to date. Maybe they'll have a Facebook page/twitter

RedToothBrush · 14/11/2019 17:22

Wikipedia has a lot of the candidates declared if you search by constituency but not all.

Council websites will put them up too but they can be difficult to navigate.

Also check your local newspaper if you have one. Mine just published the candidate list in the last 15mins.

It looks like I have an SDP candidate standing in my constituency but he's a Brexiteer.

Ah yes I'll try local paper, thanks Red

derxa · 14/11/2019 17:24

I might be completely off on this - but I thought you were in Scotland derxa? I'm a bit of odd fish. I have a farm in Scotland but main residence in England. Very Tory area. I don't have a vote in Scotland but live in wee Fluffy's constituency.

Peregrina · 14/11/2019 17:25

Oxford West and Abingdon.

sovielverloren · 14/11/2019 17:26

Thanks! Found it on council site. Con, LD, Lab.

tobee · 14/11/2019 17:27

Thanks Peregrina. Wondering how far south Brexit are wandering. 🤔

FadingStar · 14/11/2019 17:29

Brexit is driving me to drink

I just cannot understand why people would ever vote Tories when they are just going to get more of the same crap. How much evidence do people need that the Tories are shit? I'm including people that want to remain...the mind just boggles.

Ellie56 · 14/11/2019 17:31

Our safe Tory seat is offering
Liberal Democrat
Tory
Green
Labour

I won't be voting Tory. Angry

Hoooo · 14/11/2019 17:31

Ooooh
Libertarian candidate is properly loony!

DGRossetti · 14/11/2019 17:33

The thing that drives me mad is that Conservatives are supposed to be conservative

Who told you that ?

RedToothBrush · 14/11/2019 17:33

William Tench @Wptench
I have a spreadsheet which is largely filled in for announced candidates and being updated from SoPNs

I've got Lib Dems, Greens and the Yorkshire Party standing as well as Tory and Labour (Pudsey). But this is really a labour vs tory fight. In 2017 the LD's only got 1000 or so votes - if only half of them switch to labour then hopefully labour should squeak in.

Or centrist tories can switch to LD's and so get rid of Stuart Andrew's minuscule majority that way. I'm not fussy how it's done. Just as long as it's done Grin

Thanks for explaining derxa - I thought it seemed strange to stand a brexiteer in Scotland.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 14/11/2019 17:36

We have the choice of tory (who has won last 3 local elections) green (who have never represented in this area) or a labour candidate who is not from the area and has failed in her previous 2 elections. Wow. I was going to vote Labour as no real chance of usurping Tory but actually they have no chance at all so maybe Green now as a protest vote.

DGRossetti · 14/11/2019 17:36

You couldn't make it up, but our Liberal Democrats - To stop Brexit candidate is called "Green"

I can see it Tobee.

RedToothBrush · 14/11/2019 17:42

Mark Wallace @wallaceme
You know how people complain about candidates being parachuted in from other constituencies? Is a candidate listing their home address as “Address in Australia” a parachuting record??

Brexit Party Candidate...
