Westminstenders: The Non-Pact Pact

RedToothBrush · 12/11/2019 00:23

The Brexit Party and the Conservatives have agreed a trumpian pact to no deal. Led by the ERG.

They don't want you to know its a pact because the Conservatives still want One Nation Conservatives types to believe they are still One Nation Conservatives, simply because they say they are. They are not.

The Brexit Party won't stand any candidates in a Conservative held seat. But don't be surprised if there isn't more Non-Pact tactical stepping aside. This of course won't be a Pact. Cos the Brexit Party say its not. And the Conservative Party say its not.

The Liberal Democrats, Plaid and the Greens are in an electoral pact. They say they are in an electoral pact and have published a list.

Meanwhile the Labour Party isn't in a Pact. But there is still talk that in key seats that someone (either the LDs or Labour) should stand aside to try and deseat key Conservatives. This won't happen because the Lib Dems and Labour are not in a pact. And when they say they are not in a pact they aren't.

If after an election we have a hung parliament then either the Conservatives or Labour who are not in a pact and say they will never be in a pact, will try and woo someone to a kingmaker and be in government with them, probably on a supply and demand basis rather than coalition. They'll deny this but we kind of know how this goes...

How dare Jo Swinson declare that the Labour Party is not a remain Party.

Indeed, Caroline Flint, Kate Hoey, John Mann etc... Definitely remainers Hmm

And a leader who can’t even say if he’d support Remain in a second referendum!

How dare she!

prettybird · 13/11/2019 20:17

Those are exquisite flowers dontcallmemelen SmileThanks

JustAnotherPoster00 · 13/11/2019 20:22

Disingenuous af, considering the Lib Dems are now full of Tories who voted for Brexit every time under May

Labour is the party of PV

JustAnotherPoster00 · 13/11/2019 20:23

Kate Hoey, John Mann

Hoey isnt standing as a Labour ppc and John Mann isnt even a member of the LP anymore

JustAnotherPoster00 · 13/11/2019 20:25

And a leader who can’t even say if he’d support Remain in a second referendum!

Please someone explain to me why this keeps getting trotted out as if it makes any difference

JustAnotherPoster00 · 13/11/2019 20:27

Brexiters- Brexit is failing because the Tories werent brexity enough

Remainers - Remain is failing because Corbyn isnt remainy enough

[eye roll]

Bearbehind · 13/11/2019 20:30

Ds1s politics tutor has told them that the bxp standing in only labour constituencies could actually help labour...

That’s my view too.

Those are seats that the Tories need to sway in order to get a majority.

If BXP split the Leave vote there’s more chance of Labour retaining them

Hoooo · 13/11/2019 20:32

Thank you bear
You've explained it better than ds1! Smile

CendrillonSings · 13/11/2019 20:32

Because having a Lexiteer Trot as a leader is kind of a problem if you want to be considered a Remain Party? Imagine if any other leader refused to say what their view of Brexit was, other than “Please don’t ask me, please!” Confused ConfusedConfused

JustAnotherPoster00 · 13/11/2019 20:35

Please someone explain to me why this keeps getting trotted out as if it makes any difference

Sorry that was my own fault for not being specific

Can someone sensible with an opinion I've come to value over the last year explain to me why this keeps getting trotted out as if it makes any difference

dreichwinter · 13/11/2019 20:42

Give us a list of approved candidates then @JustAnotherPoster00 😉

As a centrist remainer I am concerned about giving my vote to someone who if elected PM would want to Brexit.
I think Corbyn's Brexit would be softer than Johnson's but I don't want my vote going into the "for Brexit" pile in the way the Labour EU votes seemed to.
I understand that I'm not voting for a president and Labour has a PV policy but I would feel so much more comfortable if Kier Starmer was leading Labour.

Songsofexperience · 13/11/2019 20:42

Labour is the party of PV

The problem is that Labour didn't support a PV before a general election. It was always GE first and PV second.
The flaw is simply that Labour would have to win in the first place and yet they've trailed behind in every single poll. That's why I have a problem with Corbyn. He should have supported a PV full stop but he actually wants brexit.

I appreciate I don’t fall into your specified category however, it’s pretty obvious why it makes a difference

Corbyn is a Lexiteer who’s leading a party that wants to negiotate its own deal then decide between it and Remaining

How is anyone supposed to know what a vote for a Labour is going to result in WRT Brexit

Oakenbeach · 13/11/2019 20:43

“why this keeps getting trotted out as if it makes any difference”

Was the pun intended Grin

Oakenbeach · 13/11/2019 20:49

“And a leader who can’t even say if he’d support Remain in a second referendum!”

Please someone explain to me why this keeps getting trotted out as if it makes any difference

I wrote this in response to the outrage expressed that Jo Swinson apparently said that Labour wasn’t a Remain party.... But how can it possibly be a Remain party of its Leader won’t say whether he’ll support Remain in a second referendum!

JustAnotherPoster00 · 13/11/2019 20:50

I disagree with you in nearly everything you say Bear but I never mean to disrespect you as a person and in a weird way I have sort of come to respect your opinion in a way and I know what you mean but if you look at how Labour have always said that they wanted a Brexit that protected our existing rights so that would definitely mean a customs union and I hope it means single market membership.

So far the only party that isnt including a massive fuck you to either 1 side or the other of the referendum is Labour, is it ideal of course not Id prefer revocation, but if we are going to have to go on with this clusterfuck Id rather it was a soft Brexit with a Labour government that are going to look after the vulnerable

You're definitely an approved candidate dreich Grin

Oakenbeach · 13/11/2019 20:52

I understand that I'm not voting for a president and Labour has a PV policy but I would feel so much more comfortable if Kier Starmer was leading Labour.

I’d vote Labour if Kier Starmer was Leader... Labour would walk it (and destroy the LDs in the process).

Songsofexperience · 13/11/2019 20:53

So would I oaken

JustAnotherPoster00 · 13/11/2019 20:53

Was the pun intended

Can we all pretend I was intelligent enough to have thought of it Grin

But how can it possibly be a Remain party of its Leader won’t say whether he’ll support Remain in a second referendum!

If it came out as an all out Remain party they telling those MP's that are in leave seats to basically go fuck themselves, and how will that jeal any division?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 13/11/2019 20:55

I’d vote Labour if Kier Starmer was Leader... Labour would walk it

You all knew it was coming Grin

Songsofexperience · 13/11/2019 20:56

The Tories never had a problem telling their Remain MPs to go F themselves!

Bearbehind · 13/11/2019 20:56

So far the only party that isnt including a massive fuck you to either 1 side or the other of the referendum is Labour

But that is despite Corbyn, not because of him.

I appreciate you’ll never see him through anything other than your rose tinted glasses, but surely it must be registering that so many people are saying they won’t support Labour because of Corbyn which means he is going to be the reason they can’t win the GE.

Oakenbeach · 13/11/2019 20:57

So far the only party that isnt including a massive fuck you to either 1 side or the other of the referendum is Labour

I now respect Labour’s position actually,
having ridiculed it for a long time.... but it’s not a Remain position any more than it’s a Leave one, it’s an open one.

Songsofexperience · 13/11/2019 20:57

My Tory MP is in a strong Remain constituency. Always voted with the government. Never heard him get called names because he failed to represent his constituents on Brexit.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 13/11/2019 20:58

I agree he probably hasnt even got 50% of the wardrobe skeletons that Corbyn has but even so its the tax and wealth measures and Leveson 2 that has the media owners worried right now, its going to get worse for Corbyn have no doubt about that especially if the polls keep going up
