Westminstenders: The Non-Pact Pact

The Brexit Party and the Conservatives have agreed a trumpian pact to no deal. Led by the ERG.

They don't want you to know its a pact because the Conservatives still want One Nation Conservatives types to believe they are still One Nation Conservatives, simply because they say they are. They are not.

The Brexit Party won't stand any candidates in a Conservative held seat. But don't be surprised if there isn't more Non-Pact tactical stepping aside. This of course won't be a Pact. Cos the Brexit Party say its not. And the Conservative Party say its not.

The Liberal Democrats, Plaid and the Greens are in an electoral pact. They say they are in an electoral pact and have published a list.

Meanwhile the Labour Party isn't in a Pact. But there is still talk that in key seats that someone (either the LDs or Labour) should stand aside to try and deseat key Conservatives. This won't happen because the Lib Dems and Labour are not in a pact. And when they say they are not in a pact they aren't.

If after an election we have a hung parliament then either the Conservatives or Labour who are not in a pact and say they will never be in a pact, will try and woo someone to a kingmaker and be in government with them, probably on a supply and demand basis rather than coalition. They'll deny this but we kind of know how this goes...

I feel they've all thrown caution to the wind.

thecatfromjapan · 13/11/2019 11:27

The private prescription scheme is a pilot, that is being quietly rolled out, I believe.

(According to a GP friend.)

I know nothing else about it.

Songsofexperience · 13/11/2019 11:27

We have a bunch of drunk reckless drivers in this bus, all jostling to grab the wheel.

Peregrina · 13/11/2019 11:36

This is very worrying and an example of how the NHS is being privatised by stealth. Can you kick up a stink about it?

"I'm not very happy about talking to you, so if you don't mind I'll just mooch on with what I'm doing because you've not helped us. I don't want you to meet us."

A rare Boris Johnson outing in public is going about as badly as expected.

I will stand down and resign my membership of the #LibDems unless the party apologises to @ThatTimWalker Full statement below.

Wow. Impressive statement. Will Jo Swinson listen?

thewomanontheshore · 13/11/2019 12:01

Well done to the woman with a wheelbarrow - takes courage to talk like that to a prime minister, and when you're unprepared and being filmed.

prettybird · 13/11/2019 12:04

I would turn it around Songs and argue that it's exactly the same argument we've discussed on here about why people need to hold their noses and vote LibDem or Labour (delete as appropriate Wink) in England because of the "hair on fire" analogy. Confused

Nicola has explicitly said that people can vote how they want in an Indyref2 based on the merits of that campaign (it's obviously up to the Yes Campaign which is not just the SNP Wink to make that case Grin).

TokyoSushi · 13/11/2019 12:09

I agree (rightly) terrible 'welcome' for Johnson from those in the floods. 'We've been working on it round the clock' says Johnson.

Have you? Really?

DGRossetti · 13/11/2019 12:13

Yorkshire, innit ? If team Boris thought they'd get a cap-doffing series of snappy soundbites from grateful peasants in Gods Own Country, they deserve all they get.

Next stop: Liverpool ?

Historians will note the clash of mediterranean blood in Johnson, and viking blood in the Yorkshire lady. And if they don't, they haven't my sense of the impish ....

thewomanontheshore · 13/11/2019 12:13

Nicola needs to get WM consent to Indyref2, and understandably sees the coming general election results in Scotland as a convenient way to do that. If she doesn't tell the Scottish electorate now that she will be arguing that a vote for the SNP is supportive of Indyref2, it will make it difficult for her to run that argument with WM after the election.
Admittedly annoying for those who just want to register their opposition to the Tory hard Brexit though.
Agree with Prettybird that at this stage if you don't want to be out of the EU and likely on a no or crap trade deal basis for a long long time, your best bet may be Indyref2. But there are no easy options anymore.

As far as tactical voting goes and candidates standing down or not, I wish they would look at the candidate. If you want Remain and the Labour/LibDem/SNP is a Remainer, then don't canvass too hard for the other parties. If however, it's a Leaver then yes, do try to unseat them.

thewomanontheshore · 13/11/2019 12:15

My conservative MP is one of the better ones (but not one of the rebels). Will be very interesting to see whether the SNP take the seat back this time. I don't think there's much appetite for independence in this area.

placemats · 13/11/2019 12:19

Well done that woman standing up to Johnson, that took guts and courage and she did it so politely. Massive snub.

Also well done to Guy Kiddey. And I love his ending: 'Thank Goodness I'm also Irish.'

Today locals in Hornsey & Wood Green blocked #JoSwinson’s #LibDem campaign bus to hold one minute’s silence for the victims of #austerity.

The Lib Dem/Tory cuts devastated services in #Haringay, including the very youth centre she was visiting.

She’s got some nerve coming here.

CendrillonSings · 13/11/2019 12:21

Wow. Impressive statement. Will Jo Swinson listen?

Only if she wants the large chunk of her vote coming from Tory Remainers to go right back to the Tories. I would hope Jo is too intelligent to reduce her party to being Corbyn’s little helpers.

Ellie56 · 13/11/2019 12:21

Johnson in Yorkshire. Grin Grin

BaloneyInMySlacks · 13/11/2019 12:29

I think if I bumped into Twat while I was under the stress of clearing up after after a flood he might well experience one of my ASD 'moments'. That would be a video guaranteed to go viral. Blush Grin

TheMustressMhor · 13/11/2019 12:31

@JustAnotherPoster00

I used to live round the corner from Ella Road. I am old enough to remember Hornsey & Wood Green when Hugh Rossi was MP (Tory) and everyone's excitement when Barbara Roche (Lab) was elected.

Well, my DM wasn't excited.

DH and I moved to Scotland while Lynne Featherstone was MP (LibDem).

Thankfully I do not have to vote tactically in Argyll and Bute. Our SNP candidate will get in.

I think, looking at Hornsey & Wood Green's chequered political history, that there is a prime example of how voters change their minds and how fickle party allegiances often are.

Ellie56 · 13/11/2019 12:33

I'm beginning to think Jo Swinson is a twat too.Why is she so pig headed about everything?

Apileofballyhoo · 13/11/2019 12:35

Power has gone to her head, I think, Ellie.
