Westminstenders: The Non-Pact Pact

RedToothBrush · 12/11/2019 00:23

The Brexit Party and the Conservatives have agreed a trumpian pact to no deal. Led by the ERG.

They don't want you to know its a pact because the Conservatives still want One Nation Conservatives types to believe they are still One Nation Conservatives, simply because they say they are. They are not.

The Brexit Party won't stand any candidates in a Conservative held seat. But don't be surprised if there isn't more Non-Pact tactical stepping aside. This of course won't be a Pact. Cos the Brexit Party say its not. And the Conservative Party say its not.

The Liberal Democrats, Plaid and the Greens are in an electoral pact. They say they are in an electoral pact and have published a list.

Meanwhile the Labour Party isn't in a Pact. But there is still talk that in key seats that someone (either the LDs or Labour) should stand aside to try and deseat key Conservatives. This won't happen because the Lib Dems and Labour are not in a pact. And when they say they are not in a pact they aren't.

If after an election we have a hung parliament then either the Conservatives or Labour who are not in a pact and say they will never be in a pact, will try and woo someone to a kingmaker and be in government with them, probably on a supply and demand basis rather than coalition. They'll deny this but we kind of know how this goes...

That tactical.vote site is rubbish for my area. It’s just based on numbers and completely ignores the fact that our constituency is a remain one with Raab at the helm. I hope the little weasel turns up on my doorstep.

LDs are polling well locally and the tories down so the tactical vote should be for LDs not Labour.

AutumnCrow · 13/11/2019 10:12

That stupid BBC interviewer was starting to laugh at the farmer from Bishop Auckland, like he'd just put his pants on his head and stuck two pencils up his nose, rather than thanking him for his serious well-delivered contribution to her segment.

The BBC is such a bloody embarrassment.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 13/11/2019 10:19

Make G. is also spot on that it's clear the BBC only wanted to talk to Leavers. Did they get their "profile of people to approach" wrong ? Assuming all older white males are Boris groupies ? If so, an awful lot is suddenly explained.

I think that’s exactly what happened.

The interviewer’s nervous laughter and attempts to cut him off suggest she had a producer screaming in her ear. So annoying that she ends the interview by saying something like ‘clearly a Labour supporter’ when he really hadn’t brought party politics into it all at. He’s a farmer so I would have thought statistically more likely to be a disillusioned Tory voter. She was so dismissive of his opinion - the little laughs, the attempts to interrupt - whilst pro-Brexit vox pops are give free reign to spout utter nonsense unchallenged.

MrPan · 13/11/2019 10:25

That comment/summary is just so fucking depressing. BBC News really IS that bad.

The Lib Dems’ Paula Ferguson says the party will field a candidate against Labour’s Rosie Duffield in Canterbury as people should "have a chance to vote for a Remain candidate.”

Earlier today the Lib Dem's candidate stood down over fear of dividing the Remain vote

Brussels has already warned that the UK’s wish to diverge from standards - on workers rights and environmental and consumer protections – will put up big obstacles.

Which for Johnson and chums is fine - the more we diverge, the more they can implement US standards. They won't care if the NHS is sold off.

Mistigri · 13/11/2019 10:34

For those of you in tactical seats, Jon Worth has done a comparison of all the tactical voting sites and thinks that only in a handful seats is there really any question over the best tactical voting approach.

No one is infallible but Jon is Mr. Brexit Flowchart and also called recent votes in parliament correctly almost to within a vote. Also not associated with any U.K. party. So I'm inclined to trust him as a source of good quality analysis especially as he regularly updates his work based on new info.

Embarassing

Boris Johnson’s strength and weakness in a nutshell

-gets attention.
Diverts attention from more serious issues.

-But adverts to his lack of seriousness/immaturity,
something which comes up a lot with voters.

-most won’t get his joke anyway.

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/general-election-2019-boris-johnsons-20871503.amp?

During the speech at an electric vehicle manufacturer in the West Midlands, Mr Johnson will say a Labour government would only bring "more political self-obsession" and "onanism"- a posh word for masturbation - from Parliament.

A Labour source called Mr Johnson's insults as "obscure" and "crude".

< I'd add "posh childish" >

Songsofexperience · 13/11/2019 10:36

BBC News really IS that bad.

I've not watched BBC news nor been on their website for about two years.

MrPan · 13/11/2019 10:37

Lab - LD. IF they don't come to an arrangement which actually leads to folk giving way, it's an indictment of them both. They would rather squabble and give the UK a bunch of Tory bastards again.

Don't EVER complain/blame the Tories for austerity, when you lot are providing a midwife role for it's much nastier off-spring.

Selfish, callous stupid bastards.

Oakenbeach · 13/11/2019 10:38

@ratsnest

This poll seems pretty emphatic that the LDs are the challengers, and probably explains why you’ve had nothing from Labour.

The 2017 election is a lifetime ago politically so using that as a principle guide for tactical voting is very flawed.

prettybird · 13/11/2019 10:42

Has BJ done any press conferences - ones where he takes unscripted and not given to him in advance since he became PM? Hmm

Cosy one-on-one interviews, even if they are pooled, don't count. Angry

Songsofexperience · 13/11/2019 10:45

Lab - LD. IF they don't come to an arrangement which actually leads to folk giving way, it's an indictment of them both. They would rather squabble and give the UK a bunch of Tory bastards again.

All the LD can see is the prospect of getting 20 or so additional MPs. Selfish bastards.

Lab is hopelessly divided and all Corbyn supporters can see is their stupid socialist revolution. Ain't gonna happen mates!

Both are cynical and/ or seriously deluded.

Tories are out for themselves (and a handful of oligarchs).

SNP have clearly given up on the UK

Things are just great.

Songsofexperience · 13/11/2019 10:47

As for BXP, well... we all know what they are

tobee · 13/11/2019 10:49

So LibDems are seriously pretending that Labour are a leave party?

Incidentally, just went to my gp for a blood test. Sign at reception that the NHS are changing the way prescriptions are done. That some prescriptions will now be private prescriptions, even if you get free prescriptions. Which I do. Has anyone else come across this? I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere!

Mistigri · 13/11/2019 10:56

This site has all the tactical suggestions in a table. For most constituencies they agree.

tactical.vote/compare?ru=1&couk=1&bfb=1

For @ratsnest in South Camb two sites suggest LD; two are as yet undecided. The site records this as being a constituency where the sites are in agreement and I think this is reasonable. This is my neck of the woods (work) and I think this is a good call. There are a LOT of Tory remainers who live here, working in professional/ management jobs in the Cambridge and London areas. I work with quite a lot of them ...

I'll also repost the link to the Jon Worth (Mr Brexit Flowchart) blog which is useful because he updates this as new information comes in and he highlights the changes.

Wasn't there a magic

Mistigri · 13/11/2019 11:13

Think that depends to what extent the leave vote is split DGR.

Seat projections are still very uncertain.

For the Tories, who will lose seats in Scotland and the South East, an awful lot of northern and midlands labour seats have to turn blue to get a majority of over 100.

Ellie56 · 13/11/2019 11:23

Let's hope all the young people registering to vote will stop all those seats turning blue...

prettybird · 13/11/2019 11:23

I'm not counting any chickens in Scotland Sad. The SNP making this vote explicitly about not just Remain but also Indyref2 is a risk, which might keep the Scottish Tory MPs in their jobs Sad

Some Remain supporting Unionists (and I have never had an argument against those that "feel" more or as British than/as Scottish) don't seem to realise that if there is an Indyref2, then they can still vote No Confusedbut if we have an unfettered Conservative Government, then we, as the UK, Brexit probably with No Deal and we're fucked - along with FUKD.

Songsofexperience · 13/11/2019 11:26

That's what I meant earlier prettybird. The fact that the SNP have so clearly given up on the UK (and show it) is a dangerous strategy.
