Westminstenders: The Non-Pact Pact

The Brexit Party and the Conservatives have agreed a trumpian pact to no deal. Led by the ERG.

They don't want you to know its a pact because the Conservatives still want One Nation Conservatives types to believe they are still One Nation Conservatives, simply because they say they are. They are not.

The Brexit Party won't stand any candidates in a Conservative held seat. But don't be surprised if there isn't more Non-Pact tactical stepping aside. This of course won't be a Pact. Cos the Brexit Party say its not. And the Conservative Party say its not.

The Liberal Democrats, Plaid and the Greens are in an electoral pact. They say they are in an electoral pact and have published a list.

Meanwhile the Labour Party isn't in a Pact. But there is still talk that in key seats that someone (either the LDs or Labour) should stand aside to try and deseat key Conservatives. This won't happen because the Lib Dems and Labour are not in a pact. And when they say they are not in a pact they aren't.

If after an election we have a hung parliament then either the Conservatives or Labour who are not in a pact and say they will never be in a pact, will try and woo someone to a kingmaker and be in government with them, probably on a supply and demand basis rather than coalition. They'll deny this but we kind of know how this goes...

The longer this campaign goes on, the more farcical it becomes. And four bloomin’ weeks to go, God help us.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 12/11/2019 18:43

Just seen it yolo, I think I've pulled a muscle I cringed that hard

MockersthefeMANist · 12/11/2019 18:43

My cats are also worried about having to pay an additional £4500 pa as neither of them have well-paying jobs.

I think being cats they will just lie on their arses and refuse to open the door when the bailiff calls. They'll be alright.

TheMustressMhor · 12/11/2019 18:44

@yolofish

I saw that you'd started a thread about that PPB.

I confess that when I saw the title I wondered if it had been deliberately started by the Tories so that people could see how great they are. Then I read your OP.

Clearly not. Yes, it was a pile of wank.

yolofish · 12/11/2019 18:46

lol themustress no I am definitely, absolutely, 100% NOT a Tory party stooge. My conviction for Corbyn is solidifying with every minute.

TheMustressMhor · 12/11/2019 18:46

Or just expect DH and me to pay...

TheMustressMhor · 12/11/2019 18:49

Four and a half grand?

No fucking chance.

...Third one looks like that's what he's thinking.

RedToothBrush · 12/11/2019 19:26

Watched the broadcast and was impressed at how Johnson did that in one shot. (Don't know how many takes it took but its impressive either way).

It has the effect of looking spontaneous.

DH and I watched it and whilst we hated it and it made us feel seasick we both think it will hit the mark with those who it's pitched to.

If you were howling with laughter you probably weren't target market.

Ugh BJ just said his favourite band is the clash.

HOW?!

Some simple maths. 3000 people paid £100 to apply to be a brexit company MP. Deposit to stand is £500. So not standing in 350 or so seats saves the company £175k - I wonder who gets to keep that money ? And people still can’t see they have been played ?

dreichwinter · 12/11/2019 19:40

I watched the Boris broadcast and thought it was okay.
I mean he was speaking nonsense about getting Brexit done when leaving is just the start etc but I've seen a lot worse in the past.
This much more successful than when he actually meets real people.

RedToothBrush · 12/11/2019 19:50

Why the Clash?

Because he wants to look edgy and anti establishment.

He's trying to put the lyrics and song titles into the heads of a certain audience.

The Clash is most relevant to the age group who were in their 20s at the end of the 70s. Likewise the Stones were similar for anyone in their 20s or 30s in the 60s or 70s.

Johnson is 55. He was 20 in 1984...

People tend to have a particularly rose tinted view of when they were in their 20s. Its a propaganda technique which is feeding into this psychology.

Johnson didn't pick music from the current era, nor the 80s or 90s which are somewhat more 'cool' with younger generations.

Then there were the subliminal type messages all on the walls.

And the oven ready microwave? It's deliberate. He wants people to snootily point of the error as it makes them look like grammar nazis to his target audience. It makes them appear like nick picking and making ad homiem attacks rather than focusing on policy and issues with that. It's a deflect strategy and reversal trap

And yes, when producing party political broadcasts all these little details are actively considered and deliberately inserted.

It is not a mere random choice.

OP posts:
ArseDarkly · 12/11/2019 19:52

Wonder how he's going to get on in the TV debates as he seems unable to open his gob without spouting garbage.

RedToothBrush · 12/11/2019 19:55

I saw a comment a couple of days ago that Johnson hasn't done a press conference since the start of the campaign. I don't believe he's done one yet still.

May got hounded for her stage management of her pr. No one is commenting on it this time round.

I also don't think Johnson has been doing many 'meet the public' type events.

There is a reason for this.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 12/11/2019 19:56

Oh and that's why the broadcast was set up to look as spontaneous as possible too.

Lewis Goodall@lewis_goodall
So the Conservatives have chosen, as their man to contest three way marginal Ynys Môn, Chris Davies: for those of you who don’t remember, he was the man who was convicted of expenses fraud and lost his seat in the ensuing recall Brecon by election...

oh the Liberal Democrats ...

The canterbury candidate announced they were stepping aside to give the labour Mp (with a tiny majority) an easier run.
The Lib Dems have since said they will field another candidate.

Re the con party broadcast

George Freeman MP @georgefreeman
One of the many things about Boris @BorisJohnson that makes him so refreshing a Prime Minister is that this is actually how he is:
If he was running a business he’d be in the shop floor canteen.
If captaining a ship he’d be down below decks.
He’s a VERY good leader of people

Thats the look he's trying to achieve.

DH called it Faraging.

LDs have to say this to avoid accused of being in a pact with Labour.... something that wouldn’t help them or, by implication, the Remain cause.

If they happen not to manage to find someone before the deadline, they’ll just say the timescale was just too tight.

ContinuityError · 12/11/2019 20:35

If you were in your twenties in 1976/7 you were too old.
