Westminstenders: The Non-Pact Pact

RedToothBrush · 12/11/2019 00:23

The Brexit Party and the Conservatives have agreed a trumpian pact to no deal. Led by the ERG.

They don't want you to know its a pact because the Conservatives still want One Nation Conservatives types to believe they are still One Nation Conservatives, simply because they say they are. They are not.

The Brexit Party won't stand any candidates in a Conservative held seat. But don't be surprised if there isn't more Non-Pact tactical stepping aside. This of course won't be a Pact. Cos the Brexit Party say its not. And the Conservative Party say its not.

The Liberal Democrats, Plaid and the Greens are in an electoral pact. They say they are in an electoral pact and have published a list.

Meanwhile the Labour Party isn't in a Pact. But there is still talk that in key seats that someone (either the LDs or Labour) should stand aside to try and deseat key Conservatives. This won't happen because the Lib Dems and Labour are not in a pact. And when they say they are not in a pact they aren't.

If after an election we have a hung parliament then either the Conservatives or Labour who are not in a pact and say they will never be in a pact, will try and woo someone to a kingmaker and be in government with them, probably on a supply and demand basis rather than coalition. They'll deny this but we kind of know how this goes...

There's been another cyber attack on Labour ... And this is looking more and more like Bannon's Alt-Right chums.

Cock up over conspiracy every time. Remember all websites are built and run as cheaply as possible, unless they are government websites (or Birmingham City Council, which just looks cheap). That will include the infosec side of things.

Anyway, if the alt-right did want to douse a website, surely the tactical voting ones would be more a target ?

MockersthefeMANist · 12/11/2019 17:18

Birmingham City Council, which just looks cheap

And used a panorama of Birmingham, Alabama on its front page.

Anything more complicated than hitting a lump of steel with a big hammer....

BigChocFrenzy · 12/11/2019 17:28

Arse Were you looking for the Aimee Challoner story - that link doesn't work.
Try this:

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/transgender-campaigner-suspended-by-lib-dems-t8wtlp2j0

btw, that article says Aimee is 22.
Bloody hell, if true then 22 very hard years - I'd have said mid-30s
Is trans hormone treatment etc that aging, or is it just Aimee's individual background and godawful choices in people ?

I'm staggered the LDems would let Aimee have any official party post, let alone choose her as a candidate anywhere
Aimee was always going to be a political car crash for any party idiotic enough to choose them.

DGRossetti · 12/11/2019 17:33

Anything more complicated than hitting a lump of steel with a big hammer..

They spent £2,000,000 building a custom website that I could have delivered using FOSS for one hundredth the cost.

And mine would have worked properly.

tobee · 12/11/2019 17:36

So Labour constantly slammed for big spending plans.

But Tory cuts. And Tory big spending plans promised. But that never gets any traction.

Waits for our Tory friends to post that Labour's spending plans add up to 47 googolplex per day, the Tory plans have been independently costed at 5p a decade. And there have been no cuts to public services since 2010

MockersthefeMANist · 12/11/2019 17:39

Tories have not yet worked out how much their promises will cost. Too busy thinking up new names for the hugormous big numbers all Labour's promises since 1923 will cost.

MockersthefeMANist · 12/11/2019 17:40

...Seventy Eight Grillion Jillion Octtillion Pounds. At least....

DGRossetti · 12/11/2019 17:40

Tories have not yet worked out how much their promises will cost

Why waste the time ? They won't remember them if they get elected, let alone keep them.

ArseDarkly · 12/11/2019 17:41

Thanks BCF, I can't read Times articles as i'm not a subscriber but mybrainhurts linked to a local paper with the same article.

God knows what Lib Dems were thinking-do they just take anybody

JustAnotherPoster00 · 12/11/2019 17:45

...Seventy Eight Grillion Jillion Octtillion Pounds

per nano second per person I believe

Icantreachthepretzels · 12/11/2019 17:45

do they just take anybody

Anybody except women who understand what biological sex is. They send those sorts of women emails telling them to look elsewhere for political representation.

would still vote for them if that was the only way to unseat a tory - one fight at a time

Hoooo · 12/11/2019 17:46

Twelvety hundred gagillion is a real number you know!
🙄
I despair. The msm has failed. No, it's more than failure, it's collusion.

Outsomnia · 12/11/2019 17:48

Just dropping by again. I think Brexit as an issue is receding fast, and it is all about tactics, personalities, local issues, policies, and so on, usual election stuff.

But Brexit is behind all this. Someone, most likely Johnson needs a majority to get the votes through to achieve his Brexit and here we are.

MockersthefeMANist · 12/11/2019 17:50

Helen Whatley this afternoon on Beeb Politics Show said "Everyone" is going to pay an extra £4500.

Everyone. Including cats and statues.

OublietteBravo · 12/11/2019 17:55

Kensington’s an interesting one because Emma Dent-Coad won it by 300 or so votes. I’m not sure if it’s ever had a Labour MP before. Certainly not in my living memory

Majority of 20 after several recounts. IIRC they were sent home to sleep before the final recount.

Of course it’s quite a recent constituency. It was still Kensington & Chelsea when I lived in London.

ListeningQuietly · 12/11/2019 18:00

Dusty asked about polls ....
I am also on the Yougov panel.
Anybody can join. Its quite interesting. I get polls about once a week.
Some on politics some on other issues

ListeningQuietly · 12/11/2019 18:02

PS
Another one gobsmacked that any Political Party is letting Ms Challenor anywhere near them
her dad's case - when he was per political agent - should have recused her from party politics for life

I immediately proposed a TV debate with @sajidjavid as part of the election process.

However, it now appears that for all his bluster and bravado he's doing all he possibly can to wriggle out of any debate.

If he doesn't sign up, I suggest that the broadcasters empty chair him.

Grin
tobee · 12/11/2019 18:11

Hasn't that been known about Challoner's fiancé for ages?

ContinuityError · 12/11/2019 18:23

Re the non-refundable Brexit Party candidate fees.

Seem to remember that everyone that signed up for consideration paid a fee of £100 (non-refundable) and the Torygraph was reporting that 3000 people signed up (for 650 places).

So ... £300,000 in cash had flowed into the Brexit Company’s coffers back in July?

I’m soooo looking forward to its accounts being submitted to Companies House (along with Farage’s own company accounts) so that we can see just how lucrative Brexit is fo Messrs Farage and Tice.

The longer this campaign goes on, the more depressed I am becoming.

My cats are also worried about having to pay an additional £4500 pa as neither of them have well-paying jobs.

Icantreachthepretzels · 12/11/2019 18:37

Nigel Farage and Depeche Mode - I just can't get enough

yolofish · 12/11/2019 18:39

OMG have you SEEN the tory party political broadcast? I was so astounded I felt compelled to start an AIBU thread about it. Biggest pile of wank I have ever seen in my life, we have all just howled with laughter.
