There are signs that traditional party alignment might well have broken.

The Tories have split, labour are pretending they have not.

The pattern so far seems to be closely following the EU. This favours a Tory majority.

A long way to go.

Did they not do the same thing last time? Angry

Mistigri · 11/11/2019 17:02

now that NI is Ok

This has yet to be stress-tested, of course.

Oakenbeach · 11/11/2019 17:03

I suspect the electoral commission might wade in. Didn't they get very upset when a "Literal Democrat" ran some time ago ?

What about standing as a “Conversative” candidate to promote dialogue and conversation.... Anyone want to lend me £500?

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/11/2019 17:06

A Green party candidate might be stepping aside in Chingford to give labour a clearer run.

Volvemos · 11/11/2019 17:07

And Farage finally comes clean as the outrider he’s always been.

Random18 · 11/11/2019 17:07

Misti indeed.

I actually think there could be issues.

And today isn't going to help disgruntled unionists.

Not only have the Tories thrown them under the bus but Brexit party too.

TatianaLarina · 11/11/2019 17:13

Everyone who isn't Labour or Tory also has a ridiculous trans woman are women policy.

It’s everywhere. Labour has 3 trans women’s officers at the last count (which admittedly was about a year ago). The Tories have simply kicked the Gender Recognition Act reform into the grass until after the GE.

thecatfromjapan · 11/11/2019 17:14

Looking for silver linings, given that all those PPCs for the Brexit Party paid Mr Farage, you can't help thinking it couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of people.

So there is that.

bellinisurge · 11/11/2019 17:16

@thecatfromjapan , I rise above it by being a general prepper. I also veg garden, crochet and make reusable cloth pads for my dd.
And swear a lot.Grin

thecatfromjapan · 11/11/2019 17:19

How old's your dd?

I am loving my relationship with my teen dd at the moment. It really is a joy. She makes frequent attempts at mentoring me - and she's not bad at it, actually.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/11/2019 17:21

My grandmother, who chained herself to railings to try to get women the vote, always asked that all the women in our family should vote in every election they were entitled to, and said, "If there is nobody you want to vote for, there is almost certain to be somebody you want to vote against."

That is the principle I am using this election, and while I am not particularly for anyone I am definitely against both our local Conservative candidate and the lying, venial Boris Johnson. Since it is the only chance we have in this constituency of getting rid of the former (who had a 6500+ majority in 2017) and showing the latter what we think of him, I shall be voting Labour no matter what I think about Corbyn or self-ID or any other damn thing whatsoever.

I am not going to let myself worry about the polls, or the press, or any other distractions about which I can do nothing. I shall concentrate instead of what I can do: try to get everyone I can strike up a conversation with, to register to vote and to vote Labour on the day. That's three today; it isn't a lot, but it is three votes better than none. And one of them is going to talk to a couple of others and try to persuade them to do the same, and another reckons that her husband would be wasting his vote on the Liberal Democrat this time round and she will talk with him about it.

This thread is great for providing me with arguments I can use about the election, without my having to read all the media stuff, so I think you all very much for that.

bellinisurge · 11/11/2019 17:24

thecatfromjapan - she's 12. She started her periods earlier this year and turns her nose up at disposables- customised cloth pads with funky fabrics - just used Halloween themed ones. Need to make some Christmas themed ones.
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime - I'm against all of them at the moment. I would vote Labour if I thought his seat was under threat from the Brexit Party candidate. Can't see that yet. Will keep my eyes open.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/11/2019 17:30

It's all we can do, bellinisurge; one day at a time.

Random18 · 11/11/2019 17:34

Bellini I think that does play a factor in our differing views. If I was in a safe Labour seat then I probably wouldn't vote for them even though I am normally a labour voter.

I do have issues with my local candidate and the choices she has made on the planning committee.

Chances are she won't get in and it will stay blue. There is a lot of hatred for Labour locally.

But I have to try and get rid my MP - who is not a good one anyway - so the only chance of doing it is vote Labour.

Get Brexit done one way or another and Labour will no longer have my vote unless there are significant changes.

DGRossetti · 11/11/2019 17:38

It was easier to bring the US and USSR together as allies against Hitler than it seems to be to unite Remainers.

placemats · 11/11/2019 17:44

Still no LibDem candidate in my constituency.

I'm beginning to wonder if my household has votes. No polling cards yet.

Mistigri · 11/11/2019 17:49

AskingQuestions, in case you haven't already seen it:

(Toolkit for encouraging people to register and turnout)

DGRossetti · 11/11/2019 17:49

I'm beginning to wonder if my household has votes. No polling cards yet

  1. after fuck happened when people lost their vote in the EU elections, there's hardly any pressure to get it right now
  2. you don't need polling cards to vote
  3. how many people are aware of 2 ?
BigChocFrenzy · 11/11/2019 18:03

Thecat To be fair, that manifesto delay is probably due to crap organisation rather than deliberate planning

BigChocFrenzy · 11/11/2019 18:08

"Everyone who isn't Labour or Tory also has a ridiculous trans woman are women policy."

and the Tories have given us Mordaunt, Miller .....

If anyone wishes to vote for a party against self-ID, that's basically just UKIP Confused

btw, I wonder if UKIP will take what would have been BXP votes
It'd be fair turn about, since BXP took over their former voters

bellinisurge · 11/11/2019 18:10

Just checked some local analysis which reckons that there will be a bigger vote for Tory/Brexit Party in my safe Labour seat but it will split the Brexit vote so Labour would win with a reduced majority.
Not sure what I make of that. Part of me chuckles at screwing over Brexiteers but most of me worries about Brexiteers getting screwed over.

TatianaLarina · 11/11/2019 18:13

Yep.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/11/2019 18:14

Farage has failed 7 times to become an MP

Hence the only way he was ever going to get into Parliament was to be appointed a Lord
and that would only ever be granted by a Tory PM

So it was just about getting the most leverage to force this

All those claiming Farage has given in on everything for this "unilateral pact":

If he later gets a peerage, then he has got what he wanted
In that case, presumably he has it in writing now, as noone would trust a promise by BJ to grant something late

prettybird · 11/11/2019 18:16

....and possibly Faragit's Party business, if he ever deigns to write down a manifesto that goes beyond "Vote for me No Deal" Hmm
