Westminstenders: The end of tribalism

There are signs that traditional party alignment might well have broken.

The Tories have split, labour are pretending they have not.

The pattern so far seems to be closely following the EU. This favours a Tory majority.

A long way to go.

Kevin Schofield@polhomeeditor
Health Secretary Matt Hancock says “others take a more balanced approach” to Islamophobia in the Tory Party than @SayeedaWarsi. Oh dear. #r4today

About that...

Sostenueto · 09/11/2019 07:55

I was in Manchester Tuesday and Wednesday and fortunately missed the floods but the rain was never ending whilst there!

bellinisurge · 09/11/2019 07:57

Pmk

Sostenueto · 09/11/2019 07:57

NEW: Radical plan for two Labour 'co-leaders' if Jeremy Corbyn loses the next election

PMK. I just can’t keep up at the moment. It’s certainly a drawback if working FT.

HeyNotInMyName · 09/11/2019 08:04

PMK

TheElementsSong · 09/11/2019 08:04

PMK with some surprising wildlife I found in the local woods this week. I feel like it's an apt metaphor for something but I don't know what.

Morning all.

I must admit I am feeling a bit hopeless at the minute.

Carol Cadwalladr is a star investigative journalist, and very brave. She’s been giving evidence about Facebook’s micro-targeting of political ads to an international Joint Cttee in Ireland.

And Lord Puttnam being very direct about why the Russian export was suppressed.

mobile.twitter.com/carolecadwalla/status/1192857884796870656

Please watch Lord Puttnam dropping a truth bomb in the Irish parliament. Boris Johnson is personally blocking Russia report because ‘it begs real questions about legitimacy of the referendum’

AuldAlliance · 09/11/2019 08:28

PMK with a Provençal kitten playing Edinburgh monopoly.
Tout un symbole.

He's (Johnson) horrendous.

He's a disaster.

He's having a terrible campaign.

But it doesn't matter.

FPTP will deliver him victory unless everyone gets it together to vote tactically.

The People's Vote campaign has gone 'bang'.

We're not going to get help from the main political parties.

We have to manage this ourselves - or through small, organised groups in local areas, without resources of data, money and people.

It's very worrying.

I'm sorry not to link - I read the tweet and a mixture of bloody auto-refresh (on the part of Twitter) and gloom (on my part) meant I lost it - but Chaminda Jayanetti was suggesting a Conservative majority of over 100 seats.

That is a disaster, frankly.

TiddleTaddleTat · 09/11/2019 09:07

I'm feeling a bit hopeless too
But it doesn't usually last long
If tories get a majority it spells dismal news for my and my husbands work . We both work with disadvantaged people . Different sectors and not private sector. Austerity has completely ravaged this country. I'm horrified by the thought that people who have suffered the worst of austerity under a Tory govt would then vote them in again on a promise of more spending, but completely misunderstanding that tories will always be tories and the rich will always get richer at the expense of the poor.

QueenOfThorns · 09/11/2019 09:07

I was going to say that @PigeonofDoom Grin

But I love my city! So sorry to hear that you’re thinking of giving up @squid4, but I can’t say that I blame you. If the nasty party get a majority, I’m going to start working on DH to move to Scotland and hope that Nicola will save us!

thecatfromjapan · 09/11/2019 09:10

I suspect even a lot of Conservatives don't want that.

I suspect a lot of Conservative voters just want to avoid a Corbyn majority

If so, they need to vote to avoid. Conservative majority.

Because what they will get will be an unstoppable government of the rabid hard-right, the incompetent, the cowed, the venal, and the foolish fellow-travellers.

And God help us all.

thecatfromjapan · 09/11/2019 09:12

It's not the time to give up. It's the time to get organised.

Tell everyone you know. Bang on about it.

Only a handful of weeks.

We have to win this.

We can win this.

TheSultanofPingu · 09/11/2019 09:21

I usually lurk on here, but was just about to post the same as you Tiddle. It is too depressing for words that people who have suffered under austerity for years are now saying they plan to vote conservative in order to 'get Brexit done'.
