Westminstenders: The end of tribalism

There are signs that traditional party alignment might well have broken.

The Tories have split, labour are pretending they have not.

The pattern so far seems to be closely following the EU. This favours a Tory majority.

A long way to go.

Pidcock is a bit Brexity - but I'm hoping she'll drop that. ☹️

R L-B I just don't warm to.

Clive Lewis I like but he was caught up in the Me Too stuff - and I think it will be a woman this time.

I expect to see Angela Rayner pitch her hat in the ring.

thecatfromjapan · 11/11/2019 15:37

Yes, DGR, they did.

They'll have to get their skates on, though.

Hoo - Blimey. Your constituency is cutting it a bit fine.

Random18 · 11/11/2019 15:38

I am no Corbyn fan.

BUT he is not going to ruin the country. He's not the antichrist that the RW media make him out to be.

He is a crap leader. I don't think he will be a good PM.

But BJ ? And all he stands for. Not only Brexit but his complete lack of morals?

If you live in a seat where the only candidate who can beat the Tories is Labour, then a vote for any other candidate is essentially a vote for no deal.

The Tories have said there is no extension to transition period - we won't have a FTA agreed in time so it is essentially No Deal.

Likewise, in seats which can only be won by LDs and labour support is small- then vote for LD's.

mybrainhurtsalot · 11/11/2019 15:39

Long time Labour voter but very disillusioned at present. I have put that to one side and will be voting for our local (Remain supporting) candidate. I might even volunteer to leaflet deliver/canvas for her.

I’m also thinking of joining the party so I get a say in the next deputy leadership election (and leadership if we’re lucky!).

The £3 a year joining option that Cat mentioned is only for students, current or former British Armed Forces and 14-19 year olds. The normal fee is £4.30 a month and there is a £2.17 a month option for retired people, unwaged, part-time workers and young people.

Hoo - Blimey. Your constituency is cutting it a bit fine.

So is mine. The incumbent Tory is standing unopposed right now.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 11/11/2019 15:46

I dont think so Hoo Confused

Hoooo · 11/11/2019 15:48

It was the same at the locals.
I was asked to stand and refused.
Ended up with someone who doesn't even live in the town!!
I'm worried :(

thecatfromjapan · 11/11/2019 15:48

You're right, mybrain. I didn't realise it had been withdrawn.

nothingwittyhere · 11/11/2019 16:09

Completely agree Random. We have got to stop going along with the demonisation of Corbyn. He is crap but the alternative is worse. Someone here linked to a Yorkshire Post article by lapsed Tory Jason Aldiss - I'm voting in the same marginal as he is and what he said made me feel better about voting Labour.

bellinisurge · 11/11/2019 16:13

No, we don't have to stop. They are both Shite. Corbyn doesn't get a free pass just because he isn't Johnson.

Random18 · 11/11/2019 16:30

Bellini it's your call.

But you have said many time that you are totally against No Deal. Is you opinion still the same now that NI is Ok?

Bearbehind · 11/11/2019 16:30

No, we don't have to stop. They are both Shite. Corbyn doesn't get a free pass just because he isn't Johnson.

Completely agree bellini (shocker I know 😂)

The fact Corbyn is so shite is going to lead to Johnson winning because there’s no positive reason for selecting Corbyn for many right now.

The fact it’s ‘not Tory’ just isn’t enough.

TatianaLarina · 11/11/2019 16:34

No, we don't have to stop. They are both Shite. Corbyn doesn't get a free pass just because he isn't Johnson.

Aye. 👍🏼

Random18 · 11/11/2019 16:37

Just that's from 2018.

Not sure how relevant now?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 11/11/2019 16:40

I do think its relevant now Random, when its likely that we end up on No Deal with Lord Fromage

bellinisurge · 11/11/2019 16:44

I will not enable Brexit so I won't vote Tory. 52% voted for Brexit. Johnson and May delivered a deal for them. They didn't like May's . They seem to like Johnson's. I am prepared to offer "loser's consent " to something shit as long as it protects GFA.
I would vote Labour and it's mad nonsense non-position on Brexit IF they had a decent leader and, as a bonus, if the local Labour MP wasn't being an arse over a local environmental issue. I would sacrifice the latter for the former and vote Labour if they had a decent leader. They don't have one. I'm a half Irish/half Jewish woman. Everyone who isn't Labour or Tory also has a ridiculous trans woman are women policy.
So I'm screwed. And have no one to vote for.

DGRossetti · 11/11/2019 16:48

52% voted for Brexit

Three and a half years ago.

thecatfromjapan · 11/11/2019 16:49

Well, commiserations, bellini.

Perhaps you can channel that rage into art, or joining a local political project - a counselling course for women fleeing domestic violence?

It's shit but the really important thing is to find some way of saving your soul, keeping your hope & integrity, and not burning in impotent rage.

If you feel it's gone too low for you, you have to find wings to fly above it.

BREAKING

Nigel Farage MEP (BXP, South East England) has admitted he was offered a peerage by the Government, only 48 hours prior to his decision to withdraw candidates from Conservative-held seats.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 11/11/2019 16:55

Lady Swinson has a ring to it Hmm

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/11/2019 16:57

This snippet is from the Guardian Live news feed:

Boris Johnson repeated his claim that he had given up alcohol “until Brexit is done” when he posed for a photograph at a pub in a Wolverhampton. He then added: “I’ll wet my whistle”, before taking a sip from a pint.

His logic does not resemble our earth logic.

thecatfromjapan · 11/11/2019 16:57

And, before you shout at me, that is how I kept sane during the Thatcher years. And it's what I intend to do after this GE, during the Brexit years.

thecatfromjapan · 11/11/2019 16:59

There are rumours that the Conservative manifesto isn't due to be published until postal voting is well underway.

There is truly something obscenely broken in our politics.

Mistigri · 11/11/2019 17:00

Lol. It was always going to end this way. £300 a day you're going to be paying him, although unlike in the EP he will actually have to turn up for a few seconds in order to be paid.
