Ahhhhh shiiit

OP posts:
Beveren · 17/10/2019 14:58

And what if Johnson doesn't ask for an extension?

He's off to prison, with any luck somewhere really rough where he has to share a cell with three thugs and a communal loo.

Kazzyhoward · 17/10/2019 14:59

When that happens, I thought Corbyn is almost certainly expected to call a VONC, thereby triggering a general election.

Corbyn will never vote for a GE he knows he will lose. If there was a GE this winter, the Tories will walk it with a good majority, thus also removing the power of the DUP, so the DUP won't want a GE either.

At the end of the day, Parliament has no choice but to vote for the deal and then the opposition parties can get their ducks in a row ready for the next GE (i.e. Corbyn can be replaced with someone who is electable). The politicians don't want another GE until Brexit is resolved as it will just tear them apart even more.

I got told by some twat on Facebook that I'd had three years to prepare.

So we should have known three years ago that we would be left in the situation where vitally needed medication won't be available? Strangely, I don't remember Johnson, Gove, Farage et al telling us that. If they had, I suspect the result would have been very different.

notangelinajolie · 17/10/2019 15:03

I hope it doesn't pass. It's not Brexit.

cometothinkofit · 17/10/2019 15:04

What a mess.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/10/2019 15:05

We’ll done to all those that tried to block brexit. You’ve just put us on a non stop collision course for no deal!

How on earth remainers were supposed to know no deal was the logical conclusion when

a) it wasn't mentioned during the referendum
b) you'd have to be thick as mince to think it was a good idea
c) no one in the world does it because it's utterly suicidal

is beyond me. I suppose blaming the EU and now remainers for everything is just a reflex.

DarlingNikita · 17/10/2019 15:05

I think it'll pass just because most of Parliament is worn down by it all.

Bluntness100 · 17/10/2019 15:05

The deal will either pass or they will agree a referendum or general election and the extension will be granted on that basis.

Tvstar · 17/10/2019 15:08

Junker has just said there will be no extension granted. So it's Boris deal or no deal

elprup · 17/10/2019 15:09

At the end of the day, Parliament has no choice but to vote for the deal

I don’t know - I honestly just can’t see how Boris can get the numbers. And if he loses and therefore has to seek an extension, and Corbyn still doesn’t call a VONC, he seriously needs to be removed as Labour leader immediately. I think Labour could win an election by campaigning on a second referendum ticket and doing a pact with the SNP.

MarshaBradyo · 17/10/2019 15:09

Hopefully they are just at as weary as we are and will pass it.

elprup · 17/10/2019 15:10

The deal will either pass or they will agree a referendum or general election and the extension will be granted on that basis.

Really, really hoping it’s option 2 or 3. Will we know the outcome on Saturday?

Voila212 · 17/10/2019 15:11

I don't think he is ruling out an extension, he kind of side stepped the question.
' If we have a deal, we have a deal, there is no need for prolongation '.
If parliament doesn't pass the deal, then what there's no deal.

Idontwanttotalk · 17/10/2019 15:12

@TottieandMarchpane

@PhilSwagielka "I’ve been taking about 7/8s of my prescribed dose for a year, to build up a small cushion

I’m sure the powers that be have used these three years to do their best to shore up pharmaceutical supplies, though."
If you're that sure, why have you bothered taking only 7/8 of your prescribed dose? Has that been okay for you?

CodenameVillanelle · 17/10/2019 15:13

If a second referendum or general election was agreed then the EU would grant the extension, I am sure of that.

Tvstar · 17/10/2019 15:13

BBC are saying eu is refusing an extension

cdtaylornats · 17/10/2019 15:14

We don't have to stock up we will take shipments coming through the UK to Ireland if necessary.

Pharma companies aren't going to stop supplying the UK.

TottieandMarchpane · 17/10/2019 15:18

If you're that sure, why have you bothered taking only 7/8 of your prescribed dose? Has that been okay for you?

I suppose my logical brain says they must have addressed this as a priority. I trust the civil service more than I trust politicians. I even trust pharmacies more than I trust the NHS. But I prefer to have more than one back up plan at the best of times., which these are not.

There’s definitely been breakthrough pain, poorer sleep quality, a couple of other minor issues. But that’s the choice I made.

Clavinova · 17/10/2019 15:18

So we should have known three years ago that we would be left in the situation where vitally needed medication won't be available?

I wouldn't panic just yet...

"The Department for Health and Social Care has set up a £25m express delivery service for to transport urgent medical supplies door to door after Brexit"

"The announcement came just days after the Department for Transport announced it had awarded contracts worth £86.6m to three ferry companies to transport critical supplies including medicine into the UK after Brexit."

"Health and social care secretary Matt Hancock said the contracts meant his department now had “detailed plans in place for every medicine–including those with short shelf-lives–to help ensure that the supply of medicines and medical products are uninterrupted through Brexit”

TottieandMarchpane · 17/10/2019 15:21

Yay. X post. Good old civil service. They do have a lot of very competent people, which I find reassuring.

If it weren’t for the government this country would run just fine Grin

Clavinova · 17/10/2019 15:22
Grin
DuckWillow · 17/10/2019 15:23

I no longer know what’s going on.

Blaming Remainers who didn’t vote for this is laughable. Look in the mirror if you voted Leave and are furious about what’s happening.

Don’t blame me...I didn’t want this and didn’t vote for it,

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/10/2019 15:25

An extension can be granted I just think Juncker wants this deal passed so that the EU can wash their hands of the whole sorry mess.

bellinisurge · 17/10/2019 15:26

Whether or not we get an extension (if we seek one) is up to the 27 countries. Which includes Ireland. Who are, of course, better prepared for No Deal than we are but not inclined to go for No Deal what with giving a shit about NI.

TottieandMarchpane · 17/10/2019 15:30

An extension can be granted I just think Juncker wants this deal passed so that the EU can wash their hands of the whole sorry mess.

It’s hard to see what the upside for the EU would be in dragging it out even longer.
