Big week ahead.

Johnson has until Tuesday Afternoon to get his shit together for the EU.

He thinks it can be down, but still lots to do in that time.

This week we have the Queen's Speech too, which is going to be misused as a party political broadcast.

Remember if the government can't pass the QS, there's a crisis that gets generated as a direct result. Sticking in proposals that any liberal or leftie will struggle with, is deliberately provoking a crisis of that nature. A proposal of that type would have to be anti democratic in nature, like... Ermmm... Voter ID. Hell, well what do you know.

Johnson is still after his election because as it stands he's a passenger stuck in the runaway train of his own creation.

Talk of a deal breakthrough is still overstated too. The DUP and many of the usual ERG suspects have poured water on the idea. And many on the opposition benches are pushing hard on a confirmary ref being needed for a deal - they don't have the numbers yet, but talk is that they are close. We also have loyalist military making threats about an Irish Sea Border solution.

Time for Project Shit Meets Fan.

Thecat 😂
I hope you feel better now that's out

My politest private description of him is
FFFS (Failed Former Foreign Secretary)

UltimateFoole · 14/10/2019 12:39

Better out than in Cat!

I can see why HMQ would want lawyers to go over the speech. That opening sentence about leaving on 31st October must feel risky for her to read out when Mr Johnson has repeatedly said he will not be constrained by the Benn Act on preventing no deal.

I agree that she seemed pretty cold and annoyed today. In stark contract to the PM lapping it up.

thecatfromjapan · 14/10/2019 12:47

I do feel better. But also bad.

Anyway. Forwards.

I'm trying to ignore the QS, as an act of solitary resistance.

It is, however, proving impossible.

Which has a significance that is impossible to overlook. ☹️

QueenOfThorns · 14/10/2019 12:49

Not related to the QS, but I just went to Boots for my flu jab. I asked the pharmacist whether he has good stocks of the jab and he said no, they’ve just cut his order to 2 per day. As he has around 8 people booked in each day, he isn’t taking any walk-ins and may have to start cancelling appointments later in the week. He also said that the HUGE medical centre down the road doesn’t have ANY in at all. I now feel like a shit because I’ve had a jab that a vulnerable person might miss out on. In my defence, he didn’t tell me until afterwards and I’m self employed, so I don’t earn if I can’t work. But even so, I’d survive Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/10/2019 12:52

They should refuse to debate the QS. What a waste of time.

Timeywimey10 · 14/10/2019 12:55

Immigration and social security bill

The one that introduces a points-based immigration system (don't have a massive problem with that, as other countries have one) and removes freedom of movement (that's the bit I have a problem with as it only affects British citizens, everyone else can continue to live and work across the EEA as now).

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 14/10/2019 12:56

@QueenOfThorns don't feel guilty. You're helping with herd immunity. School vaccines are being done next month we've been told.

Dusty01 · 14/10/2019 13:04

Even the Queen feels suppressed by this government. I'm just guessing of course. But that's what it looked like as she begrudgingly read out Boris's shopping list that had been forced upon her. Even she feels powerless, unheard, voiceless even and put upon.

I've never thought of our monarchy as being much more than a piece of glitter. But I'm still surprised to see this - although perhaps I/we are reading too much into what we saw.

DG Rossetti - you mentioned the box that our monarchy fills (or something like that earlier on). You said that it's not just there for show. What is it there for? Does it have any sort of power, voice or say? I was so willing Queenie to add something of her own into that stream of nonsense, or simply refuse to deliver it.

tobee · 14/10/2019 13:08

Feel a bit sick now Cat! EnvyGrin

Couldn't bring myself to watch QS, even though I'm such a baby and still laugh at the door being slammed in Black Rod's face!

Did Johnson and Corbyn converse (as traditional) or not?

I remember Thatcher and Kinnock never did!

UltimateFoole · 14/10/2019 13:09

Hmm, the Queen doesn't need a passport to travel abroad and she doesn't need a driving licence to drive. So maybe she wouldn't be able to vote under the new ID plans?

(Just joking - I assume she doesn't vote.)

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 14/10/2019 13:10

tobee Boris tried to be the affable chap but Corbyn kept his eyes front and centre and had a fuck off you lying twat sign on his forehead.

averylongtimeago · 14/10/2019 13:11

Has anyone else seen this?
Is Corbyn changing his mind?

PMK

Nice to see HMQ supporting bring a child to work day Wink

MockersthefeMANist · 14/10/2019 13:14

Only a matter of time before the bat guano Brexit Press have a headline about The Queen The Enemy Of The People: Elizabeth Haus Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha, from an immigrant family...

PotterHead1985 · 14/10/2019 13:16

PMK. Missed most of the last thread and missed the QS due to wimminz fings.

So is there any normal (hah) debate today or was it just the pomp and circumstance.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 14/10/2019 13:17

Well her husband is proper foreign, he was born in Corfu.

MockersthefeMANist · 14/10/2019 13:19

Is there any normal (hah) debate today?

The QS Debate is an opportunity for MPs to drone on at length about anything they like provided they can link it to something in the QS.

Some good, some bad.

tobee · 14/10/2019 13:21

@BercowsFlyingFlamingo

Basilpots · 14/10/2019 13:22

@thecatfromjapan Yup a nuts sack in a bad toupee.

I can see how that works.

tobee · 14/10/2019 13:22

I'll try that again! 🙄

. Grin bercows!

MockersthefeMANist · 14/10/2019 13:26

Boris Johnson looks like a testicle.

But David Cameron looks like a condom, with his nose as the little bubble on the end.

(At last the sort of high-level debate we've been looking for...)

mrslaughan · 14/10/2019 13:31

What was the thing in the WS about divorce? Will they no longer have to give a reason I wonder? Now who would that benefit......

RHTawneyonabus · 14/10/2019 13:31

Assume queen is a peer of the realm and can’t vote in general elections, peers are considered to have their own representation and do not need it in the commons.

Wonder if she could vote in local elections though? I mean she’s as much right to have an opinion on how her bins are collected as anyone else.
