A row over parliamentary language and conduct and how MPs are afraid of extremists has over shadowed talk of Brexit.

Cummings has said if you don't want to leave without a deal, vote for a deal.

Yet there isn't a Johnson approved one in front of the Commons and the EU are utterly despairing of Johnson's blank non papers and his full on Trump bullshit.

Then there's the threats to the rule of law.

Apparently there are five known suggestions to bypass the Benn Act and refuse to ask for an extension.
See Twitter Thread Here

This weekend sees the start of the Tory Party Conference. With a parliamentary vote to block a recess, its rather scuppered plans for the rest of the conference. Johnson's planned speech at the conference clashes with PMQ so he may well not attend the Commons.

Expect the conference to be.... Er... Inflammatory...

Earlier this afternoon I heard a noise outside the window, and a local cat was mewling for attention. So I give you ...

Anyone else wonder if the extreme language row was to take the headlines away from the Supreme Court loss? At least in terms of Johnson/Cummings controlling the agenda? I asked this before.

ListeningQuietly · 27/09/2019 17:49

.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/09/2019 17:50

PMK. Thanks, Red.

So when is BoZo going to put a deal in front of the House in order that number 3 of the Benn circumvents can occur? Bearing in mind there's no sign of a deal?

I can't see how that will happen as there's nothing to put to the House and no negotiations ongoing to allow for a tweaked WA to appear.

As such, Benn (extension request) will have to happen / be sorted (get the 3 months or agree whatever extension we're offered) before Kinnock (vote for the WA again) happens. And by the time Kinnock happens there will be an extension. Parliament can then vote through the WAIB. Or take over business to ensure the WAIB goes through (I would assume).

tobee · 27/09/2019 17:51

Also, assuming (ha!) the extension goes through, what are people's ideas/knowledge of what will happen during the extension months?

falcon5 · 27/09/2019 17:52

I rather think the trouble with route 4 being a dead end is that there is potential to try and make this an emergency. Arguably turning up the provokation may be trying to do just that. So let's hope that's not the only thing making route 4 Not viable.

Hasenstein · 27/09/2019 17:52

Wow, PMK on 1st page. Hasn't happened for months.

I noticed some poor soul PMKed on about Page 38 of the last thread. Keep going at this pace and some day soon a thread will be full before Red has finished typing the intro.

I don't know about that, but given the Tory conference was supposed to take place with parliament silenced prorogued and unable to generate too much news to knock Boris off the front page, it could be an interesting week. The media are going to be torn between bigging up Boris whilst at the same time combing over Corbyn for the odd undone shoelace, or something.

And there's every chance there could be something in the Commons that dilutes they Tory handshandying ....

Not directly related, but I see that Sussex police have given up in the Gatwick drone case. If two alleged drones can cause so much chaos, I dread to think what lies in store ...

tobee · 27/09/2019 17:55

An interesting week? Ohhh! We haven't had one of them in ages!!!!

bellinisurge · 27/09/2019 17:56

That cat looks like mine @DGRossetti . And I appreciate the underused expression "handshandy".
Thank you, Red.

I think SCOTUK have sat on that. Even executive power is justiciable - that was the whole point of the ruling (plus the 35 year old Law Lord ruling from last thread).

It would also require a collusion from people who are tasked with keeping the government on the straight and narrow. Which is not a problem if you are really going to pull the whole house of cards down - after all who's going to judge you ?

But if you fail, you'll be open to some quite serious charges. somewhere down the line.

lonelyplanetmum · 27/09/2019 18:00

Thank you Red.

If a week is a long time in politics... what is three years plus the 4, 5 or 6 to negotiate the post deal deal or the post no deal deal?

prettybird · 27/09/2019 18:01

tobee - I was saying the sane thing to dh. Win-win for BJ. The language plays to his audience and takes the headlines away from his unlawfulness. Hmm

Live picture of the cats. At least they get to relax Wink

Has everyone noticed the flag tag on DGRs cat visitor. That's a worrying sign that is.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 27/09/2019 18:02

A rather nauseous PMK this evening.

DGRossetti · 27/09/2019 18:03

That cat looks like mine @DGRossetti

Unless you recognise the collar, it's not Grin

I know her name ... she keeps watch sometimes, I'm sure. DW is less enthralled - especially when said cat prowls around her wheels ...

Usually our lawns are quite magpie friendly, but now I know why I haven't seen any today Grin.

That picture is also a fox run ... I've seen a fox prowl along it once, and when we had the snows, the footprints were a giveaway.

You can't beat suburban life.

It is worth recalling that the credit/bame for Brexit is shared. While Cummings and Vote Leave concentrated on Take Back Control and lies on buses, on their right flank they had Farage and Leave.EU pushing the racist message.

It is also rather like the newly promoted team that surprises the big teams with their direct stayle of play for a while, but word gets around and soon they are on the end of a few tonkings and relegation beckons.

DGRossetti · 27/09/2019 18:06

The Union flag ? All I know is the cats owners (who lives opposite) name. Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar Grin
