Westminstenders: The Tory Party Spectacular

A row over parliamentary language and conduct and how MPs are afraid of extremists has over shadowed talk of Brexit.

Cummings has said if you don't want to leave without a deal, vote for a deal.

Yet there isn't a Johnson approved one in front of the Commons and the EU are utterly despairing of Johnson's blank non papers and his full on Trump bullshit.

Then there's the threats to the rule of law.

Apparently there are five known suggestions to bypass the Benn Act and refuse to ask for an extension.
See Twitter Thread Here

This weekend sees the start of the Tory Party Conference. With a parliamentary vote to block a recess, its rather scuppered plans for the rest of the conference. Johnson's planned speech at the conference clashes with PMQ so he may well not attend the Commons.

Expect the conference to be.... Er... Inflammatory...

PMK, thanks!!

So Cummings spent several years in Russia before becoming involved in anti-EU stuff. Interesting.

This whole f.ing thing makes me paranoid. How long before we find out he knew Mrs Aaron Banks when she was back home in Russia?

BigChocFrenzy · 27/09/2019 19:44

Relief & damiration here though that the Supreme Court stood up to BJ

  • this is where the UK diverges from the German parallell of 1920s / 1930s

That's interesting, kingsassassin.

So Cummings was in Russia during its wild west period, when the old state structures were indeed being destroyed, and people who could move fast enough could make an absolute fortune and install themselves as local barons.

That country is now ruled by oligarchs and mob bosses integrated with the former security bosses. Nice.

RHTawneyonabus · 27/09/2019 19:53

So today I learnt something new after arguing with DH about orders of council. It’s orders IN council I smugly replied and there followed a discussion about who was likely to know better me or John Major (I am supposed to know some of this stuff) turns out both orders in and orders of exist!

Orders in Council are mostly about transferring power between govt depts. it’s secondary legislation that’s too boring for Parliament in effect.

Orders of Council are made by the Privy Council in exercise of powers conferred upon them alone and usually relate to the regulation of professions or professional bodies. Not sure what BJ would be planning to with a power that is mostly used for increasing fine levels for the royal society of opticians or whatever. Baffled.

Thanks for the links. So a Farage-type "man of the people" then. I am one of the lower classes, and these 'people' insult deleted in the spirit of keeping the amazing English language clean can go take running jumps. Large ones.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/09/2019 20:00

Thanks, RHTawney
I have noted down that difference "of" vs "in" Council - good to know that

RedToothBrush · 27/09/2019 20:03

RHTawneyonabus one day we should have a ridiculous quiz on parliamentary jargon in the Brexit section, so everyone can see how much pointless jargon and constitutional legalise they have learnt from Brexshit so that along with our inane pop, soap and celeb knowledge we can all finally win a pub quiz one day.

Large running jumps

And disappear up their own fundaments

RedToothBrush · 27/09/2019 20:07

So a Farage-type "man of the people" then

Come on now that's a bit unfair. At least Cummings has lived north of Watford.

We all know that North of Watford we are primitive and all wear flat caps and have whippets and have just fallen out of a Hovis advert.

There are no posh people north of Watford.

Reminder: BXP 1-Day party conference in London - today

No, I'm not watching it, but someone else is doing that for us:

Lewis Goodall@lewisgoodall

Applause for Farage line that the Withdrawal Agreement is a “surrender treaty.”

Farage told me earlier Johnson is going to regret banding the word “surrender” around a lot,
because any deal he brings back will be “the real surrender document.”^

What goes around...

Brexit Party domestic policy coming thick and fast:

-0% interest on student loan
-scrap apprenticeship levy with new “simple scheme”

  • abolish inheritance tax
-“invest in smart taxation” -won’t cut anything other than Foreign aid budget
RedToothBrush · 27/09/2019 20:09

So Cummings was in Russia during its wild west period, when the old state structures were indeed being destroyed, and people who could move fast enough could make an absolute fortune and install themselves as local barons.

You mean the disaster capitalist stage.

Our local quizmaster secretly asks me for Brexit updates. I’m still waiting for a Brexit round in the quiz so that our team can really cash in (won’t happen, too contentious).

Woah: Greater London Authority has referred Boris Johnson to Independent Office for Police Conduct so it can assess if it should investigate him for misconduct in public office - which would be a criminal offence. In connection to claims over Jennifer Arcuri.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/09/2019 20:12

🤔 Confused 😂 Wow !

Best For Britainn@BestForBritain*

Interesting:

Goodall:
"It's really important whether the PM might choose not to obey the law, because if he does I might choose not to obey the law."

Cummings:
"I don't think that's the right attitude.
You don't just watch criminals and think you might become a criminal too."

NoWordForFluffy · 27/09/2019 20:19

Cummings just agreed that BoZo is a criminal?!

BigChocFrenzy · 27/09/2019 20:21

The torture chamber: how opposition politicians plan to humiliate Boris Johnson

(Before complaints from certain posters about the title, this is a rightwing magazine)

Despite the title, interesting suggestions for the Opposition to hold a PV and enquire into BJ

https://spectator.us/torture-chamber-opposition-humiliate-boris/amp/?

Without a Tory majority, the British prime minister’s tormentors are the ones holding the power

BigChocFrenzy · 27/09/2019 20:22

I'm not sure Cummings was supposed to let that slip ! 😂

Indeed, RTB, Russia is the canonical example of disaster capitalism on a grand scale – and in a comparatively short timeframe.

One of the saddening things about it was that experts with experience in other carpetbagged-states recognised what would happen, but their expertise was ignored because it derived from Africa and other non-white countries. The belief that It Couldn't Happen Here completely blinded international bodies to the risk.SadAngry

Wot, Thatcherite free marketeering lead to banana republic oligarchies? Surely not!

BigChocFrenzy · 27/09/2019 20:31

The UK economy is at least an order of magnitude greater than Russia's was

The potential profits are too

BigChocFrenzy · 27/09/2019 20:34

BJ phrases carefully planned, as red said at the time:

Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

Boris Johnson is absolutely defiant about using the term 'surrender bill' to describe the Benn Act

From political cabinet it sounds like the Tories have done a lot of polling around it and believe it is damaging Labour

Stopping using it would remove a key election weapon

< so fuck the casualties >

Tom Newton Dunn@tnewtondunn

So ‘Surrender Act’ isn’t the PM’s emotional frustration, but a calculated electoral ploy?
