A row over parliamentary language and conduct and how MPs are afraid of extremists has over shadowed talk of Brexit.

Cummings has said if you don't want to leave without a deal, vote for a deal.

Yet there isn't a Johnson approved one in front of the Commons and the EU are utterly despairing of Johnson's blank non papers and his full on Trump bullshit.

Then there's the threats to the rule of law.

Apparently there are five known suggestions to bypass the Benn Act and refuse to ask for an extension.
See Twitter Thread Here

This weekend sees the start of the Tory Party Conference. With a parliamentary vote to block a recess, its rather scuppered plans for the rest of the conference. Johnson's planned speech at the conference clashes with PMQ so he may well not attend the Commons.

Expect the conference to be.... Er... Inflammatory...

I do fear wonder whether the Kinnock amendment to the Benn Bill is some sort of Trojan Horse Shock

But if it is, I'm sure now that Parliament has been unprorogued is still in session Wink, they should have time to spot if it is an issue and deal with it.

Just strolling in here.

I am quietly betting he will be forced to ask for an extension or replaced.

I have a question. Can anyone help?

The ref result in 2016 was 52% to leave, ie a narrow majority. The government "respects" the result and is therefore taking steps to leave.

The decision of the SCOTUK in 2019 was 100% (ie, unanimous) that the prorogation was unlawful. The government "respects" the result, but disagrees with it, so ignores it.

Are we in 1984? Or Alice in Wonderland?

IMO disagreeing with the law is where anarchy starts. What an example to set!

Thank you, Red.

I’m wondering about a VoNC while the cats are in Manchester. The mice in the HoC could play some very naughty tricks.

He's declared war on Parliament, so I would not be at all surprised if they sprung an urgent vote on Wednesday to force him back at maximum inconveneience.

I suppose there is a path whereby Boris asks for an extension playing the "gun to my head" card with a side salad spin of "If I had my way I'd die like I said, but I'm doing this for the country ".

Allowing him to play both sides of the room at the same time ... much as Al Murray does.

Part of that narrative has already been spun. Even here people have said that Boris is finished if he asks for an extension. In fact he's acted that part to perfection. So can he now add to that some sort of nobility to turn the naysayers around and praise him for such a difficult decision ? And if that were to be the case, what notes would need to be played in what order on the dog whistle ?

We all need to bear in mind that Boris doesn't give two shits about Brexit. Cummings might. But Boris .. pah. He'd revoke in an instant if it put his face on the stamps. (Ironically, only Farage seems to have cottoned onto this in any measure ....)

Pacing My Kitchen nervously while I read every page of these brilliant threads. So much thanks to all the contributors on here. Well most of them anyway Grin

And people actually believe that BJ knows the law better than all 12 Supreme Court judges?!

DGRossetti · 27/09/2019 18:20

Of course a regular government would be immune to such parliamentary mularkey as they'd control the commons.

Just to remind ourselves of quite how slender the ledge of democracy is here.

DGRossetti · 27/09/2019 18:24

And people actually believe that BJ knows the law better than all 12 Supreme Court judges?!

It doesn't matter a shit. What's he going to do. Appeal it to the European Court of Justice, only to be told that they have no jurisdiction in the UKs sovereign affairs ?

In fact that's (another) tack to confuse numbskull leavers with ... where this EU interference in UK laws they've told us about ? (Don't wait for an answer, there's still 3 months to Xmas).

katalavenete · 27/09/2019 18:24

I would rather see the Conservatives forced to be the ones to bring the brexit disaster to a.conclusion so they can carry the full weight of blame for the toxic fallout we will be left with for decades to come.

They started this disaster in motion, they shouldn't be given the opportunity to pin the blame on to another party for supposedly not securing as good an outcome as they would have done and therefore casting that party as responsible rather than themselves for creating all of this.

We're fucked as a country now. It's only right their party should be fucked over too.

So Cummings spent several years in Russia before becoming involved in anti-EU stuff. Interesting.
