A row over parliamentary language and conduct and how MPs are afraid of extremists has over shadowed talk of Brexit.

Cummings has said if you don't want to leave without a deal, vote for a deal.

Yet there isn't a Johnson approved one in front of the Commons and the EU are utterly despairing of Johnson's blank non papers and his full on Trump bullshit.

Then there's the threats to the rule of law.

Apparently there are five known suggestions to bypass the Benn Act and refuse to ask for an extension.
See Twitter Thread Here

This weekend sees the start of the Tory Party Conference. With a parliamentary vote to block a recess, its rather scuppered plans for the rest of the conference. Johnson's planned speech at the conference clashes with PMQ so he may well not attend the Commons.

Expect the conference to be.... Er... Inflammatory...

Given that nothing is certain about Brexit right now this feels like the right cat image

My cat is never available for a picture at the beginning of these threads. It's very hard to respond in time to points before the threads move on, but many thanks to Red for the threads and insights (though I wish with all my heart those wouldn't confirm what I think), DGR for the laughs (I particularly liked the personality cult without the personality - it's so true), Louise for the March for a Deal hope, and you all for the sanity. Anyone know anything about Dominic Cummings's background? He seems very anti-establishment, with all the normal (and valid imo) complaints about lower class disadvantage, but it doesn't seem like he has a lot to complain about himself.

DarkAtEndOfUk · 27/09/2019 18:53

I'm just nosy.

PMK. How do you “borrow” a kitten?
(Perhaps in the same way my neighbour borrows my cat. Or my cat borrows my neighbour. Whatever.)

Alsohuman - that Prospect magazine article is very good. Last night on Sky's Press Preview, the Brexiter representative who was on with Jenny Kleeman (who like and is always very considered) was awful. Can't remember her name: she is the one with the non beauty spot and white curly hair that looks like a wig (actually she looks like a caricature of an 18th century courtesan). She said that BJ was right to use the description "Surrender bill" and when the Sky presenter challenged her on it, repeatedly, pointing out that we're. not. at. war. with Europe, she insisted that that was exactly what it was ShockSad

PMK, quite sad about current sitch but got curry for supper!

kingsassassin · 27/09/2019 19:25

It's probably worth flagging up that when classic Dom was in Russia, it was full Yeltsin. There was more or less anarchy at the height of the transition to 'capitalism' and of course the oligarchs were cashing in.

On the way to work this morning, I saw my local MP. I have met her a few times . I thanked her for the work she was doing in Parliament especially after last week. It was the least I could do after a crap week for MPs

This will be the first ever time I will be glued to any party conference

What most concerns me is whether BJ & other hardliners continue with:

  1. attacking the decision of the Supreme and doubling down on refusing to extend

  2. minimising death threats to Opposiition MPs & their families and blaming the victims

  3. encouraging riots

BigChocFrenzy · 27/09/2019 19:41

Germany: opinion poll on Brexit

BJ antics have further hardened opinion against making more concessions to the UK govt

(translated)

"If there is a No Deal Brexit, who will be most at fault?"
GB 81%, EU 10%, Don't Know 9%

"Should the EU make further concessions to avoid a No Deal Brexit?
Yes 15%, No 77%, Don't Know 8%
