Westministenders: Boris Johnson Broke The Law

RedToothBrush · 24/09/2019 11:05

ITS OFFICIAL
The Highest Court in the Land has ruled that Boris Johnson has broken the law.

Parliament is Sovereign.

Despite the calls for his resignation it is highly unlikely he will under the current political climate.

It must be stressed that the judgement was UNAMINOUS and went further than most expected, and took the hardest possible line again the government

The power now lies with the Speakers of the Lords and Commons to decide when Parliament reopens.

It also means that all the bills which were ended by proroguation are now back in play.

Expect a full backlash from the hard right attacking the courts are going full on 'enemies of the people'. This will be NASTY

The strength of this ruling does pretty much rule out another proroguation as the courts are liable to throw it out immediately if they try it on again.

Johnson is in New York. He needs to get on a plane very quickly.

Big opportunity
BUT
the Rebel Alliance plus those other sane Tory MPs like Tugenhadt must now actually DO something when Parliament returns

First priority is requesting an extension

  • BJ is so weakened that the EU could risk ignoring any threats he would make about deliberately disrupt EU business

But once we are sure that will happen .... it would be throughly deserved if BJ became the shortest ever serving PMSmile

Maybe he'll sacrifice Cummings first, as a scapegoat
But Cum will then be outside the tent pissing in on him

Carry on Thegrasscouldbegreener, you are making a right fool of yourself. Did you not see Lady Hale announcing the judgement - were you asleep for that bit?

Where was your pal Boris Johnson - not even in the country. He has form for that - he conveniently fled the country when a vote about Heathrow expansion was taken.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 24/09/2019 11:32

@Thegrasscouldbegreener You ok hun? [head tilt]

TokyoSushi · 24/09/2019 11:32

PMK, this is literally my favourite news day ever!

TheElementsSong · 24/09/2019 11:32

After everything that has happened for the past 3 years, now apparently it's only this specific event that is outrageous, divisive and will have serious consequences.

Thegrasscouldbegreener · 24/09/2019 11:33

'Lady' Hale looks dressed for the occasion with her spider's brooch all in black over seeing the remain coven, truly chilling day for the democracy of this country, and for the future.

The supreme court will need to be elected going forward, we simply can not have politically motivated coups, we will need far reaching changes and an overhaul of our legal system.

It is a coup.

MockersthefeMANist · 24/09/2019 11:33

I expect Farage is planning to storm the gates of Parliament and declare himself the People's tribune.

Not that he'll be doing the storming. He'll just turn up in his Merc after Waxy Lemon and the Football Lads do the patriotic work.

Bearbehind · 24/09/2019 11:33

If the Supreme Court had ruled that the PM can prorogue parliament whenever and for as long as he wants, that would have been better? Huh?

Of course not but rational thought isn’t playing a part in the minds of Leavers is it?

The fact is, this ruling is going to make them double down yet again.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 24/09/2019 11:33

@Thegrasscouldbegreener Oh as an aside I take it you'd be fine if Corbyn shut down parliament to enact his communist hard left trotsky manifesto right?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 24/09/2019 11:34

Thegreen

The justices have placed Parliament Sovereignty above an unfettered discretion to shut down the government.

Would you be complaining if they had blocked a Momentum Government shutting down Parliament to avoid money being voted for the Army.

You need to separate the Constitutional precedent from the Brexit noise.

Mistigri · 24/09/2019 11:35

I see grass is back to mansplain Brexit to us little ladies Grin

TheElementsSong · 24/09/2019 11:35

So the justices were being cowardly in their absence, but also Lady Hale was there are a witchy representative of the evil coven of NotPeople?

NotaRealLawyer · 24/09/2019 11:35

Thanks RTB, and all, for facilitating these threads.
Amazing arrogance of those (" we was robbed") who are criticising the unanimous decision of 11 of the top legal minds in our countries.

nauticant · 24/09/2019 11:36

Clearly Boris Johnson wanted to deflect attention from his "friendship" with Jennifer Arcuri and how he was paying her public money so they could "bang the drum" together but I think he's overdone it with this deflection.

Thegrasscouldbegreener · 24/09/2019 11:36

I am excited actually because this really will motivate the leave side to stop sitting and waiting for this country to do the right thing.

The next stage of this is not going to be as civilised, I think we can be quite sure of that. The establishment does not rob the people of their democracy in any made up court hearing coup and get away with it.

You are in this bubble of remain on here and have no idea...poor you.

DGRossetti · 24/09/2019 11:36

What will be interesting is her response - she should be asking him to come and see her and explain I would have thought - actually I would have thought that she should be asking him to resign

I imagine the Palace switchboard is in meltdown now. Constitutionally the Queen is powerless (as we have now realised, but we'll deal with that another day). However I can see the Palace panicking that if Boris does refuse to step down, he's putting Her Majesty in an impossible position.

Even Boris might not realise that yet - it will need to be explained to him.

If the Queen is quite happy to carry on with Boris, as if northing had happened, it's just another boost for the republicans amongst us. It would also open the door for even more scrutiny of the entire Royal family ....

Let's make the Prime Minister Boris the Brief

LarkDescending · 24/09/2019 11:37

I don’t think a contributor who hasn’t grasped that it is normal and proper for judgments to be “written down” needs to be taken very seriously.

Peregrina · 24/09/2019 11:37

Leavers really do need to find some better arguments.

Wah, wah, wah, it's not what I wanted, isn't an argument.

I wonder if her Majesty will give Johnson a public bollocking like she did the other day to Cameron.

ContinuityError · 24/09/2019 11:38

No law has been broken.

Yes - that’s why prorogation has been ruled unlawful and not illegal.

There’s something you’re really not understanding here.

TheElementsSong · 24/09/2019 11:39

I don’t think a contributor who hasn’t grasped that it is normal and proper for judgments to be “written down” needs to be taken very seriously.

It's OK - they've moved on to veiled threats about motivating The People and what surprising consequences there will be for the Remain bubble.

pigeononthegate · 24/09/2019 11:39

Do carry on grass. The inarticulate sour-grapes frothing from thwarted right-wingers is the cherry on the cake Grin

I don't think BoJo will resign, it's not in his nature. I hope he makes it back for PMQs tomorrow. I want to watch Blackford handing him his arse.

DadDadDad · 24/09/2019 11:39

The establishment does not rob the people of their democracy in any made up court hearing coup and get away with it.

The establishment is the likes of Johnson and Rees-Mogg, and it is the court that has protected our democratic institutions from being subject to a coup by them!

DGRossetti · 24/09/2019 11:39

The supreme court will need to be elected going forward

Make it a party manifesto pledge, get elected, and pass the appropriate law in parliament then. Luckily you will be able to, as this ruling has reconfirmed parliaments sovereignty.

motherofdoodles · 24/09/2019 11:40

PMK and smiling. Where there's Bercow there's hope!
