Westministenders: Boris Johnson Broke The Law

ITS OFFICIAL
The Highest Court in the Land has ruled that Boris Johnson has broken the law.

Parliament is Sovereign.

Despite the calls for his resignation it is highly unlikely he will under the current political climate.

It must be stressed that the judgement was UNAMINOUS and went further than most expected, and took the hardest possible line again the government

The power now lies with the Speakers of the Lords and Commons to decide when Parliament reopens.

It also means that all the bills which were ended by proroguation are now back in play.

Expect a full backlash from the hard right attacking the courts are going full on 'enemies of the people'. This will be NASTY

The strength of this ruling does pretty much rule out another proroguation as the courts are liable to throw it out immediately if they try it on again.

Johnson is in New York. He needs to get on a plane very quickly.

flouncy The watercannon had to be scrapped - at a 300k loss to London - because noone would buy them
TMay was joking about it during her leadership contest

His whole job history is a litany of expensive blunders and sleaze
But the Tories elected him leader Hmm

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/nov/19/boris-johnson-unused-water-cannon-sold-for-scrap-at-300000-loss

Three unusable water cannon bought by Boris Johnson when he was mayor of London have been sold for scrap, at a net loss of more than £300,000.

Johnson bought the crowd-control vehicles from the German police in 2014, in anticipation of social unrest, without checking whether they could be used on London’s streets.

In one of his most humiliating episodes as mayor, the then home secretary, Theresa May, banned them from use anywhere in England and Wales.

It left the capital’s taxpayers with three expensive white elephants.

DGRossetti · 24/09/2019 15:49

DGR babe, did Unlawful Bozo the Clown scrap his illegal water cannon or did he just "mothball" them somewhere in a hangar? I know you'll know! (no pressure)

OK, OK, funtimes over. Back to work Grin

Didn't he sell them at a loss ? Like almost everything else he did as mayor ?

mummmy2017 · 24/09/2019 15:50

Bellinisurge your so busy thinking about how things seem to yourself you fail to see that it does not play out like that millions of people in this country.
Boris say let's just get this finished, and maybe Dominic has got a group of voters who he runs things past, this decision was a win win , either Boris can carry on and get us out, or as has happened yet again People who think they know best, tell us we can't leave and give the Remainers another thing to push into the way to stop Brexit, it matters not what the courts say, it is how people see it ...

Rob Powell@robpowellnews

Corbyn speech now at 1630 ... mad re-writes going on you imagine! Grin

NEW:
Chakrabarti - "we can't crash out during an election period... we're putting national interest ahead of party interest".

She says that once an extension is secured, Labour then wants a general election
#Lab19

Labour still seeming luke warm on calling a vote of no confidence.
Shadow Att Gen says that focus needs to be on making sure that no deal on Oct 31 is taken off the table... in reality, they still may not have the numbers

Kate McCann@KateEMcCann

On vote of on confidence - Lib Dem sources equally hesitant.
Worried such a vote could lead to a “total unknown” where UK accidentally crashes out - too close to Oct 31 to risk.
Call on Labour to resist and focus instead on trying to stop no deal

New: Boris Johnson has been given two weeks by London’s assembly to explain his relationship with an American entrepreneur who received up to £126,000 in public funds during the prime minister’s eight-year tenure as mayor of the UK capital.

I think we can all have a reasonable guess at the 'relationship'

Rhubarbisevil · 24/09/2019 15:54

Well mummy perhaps you’re too busy seeing how things are for YOURself.

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2019 15:58

"it matters not what the courts say"

Wrong
It matters, because we live in a country ruled by law
The rule of law - especially over the executive - is essential for a country to be a democracy

The alternatives would be rule by a (minority) PM who is above the law - i.e. a dictator - or mob rule.

What matters is whether a PM can get a majority in the HoC for his policies
If he can't, that's not the fault of the courts

Emilyontmoor · 24/09/2019 15:58

Flouncy Would it spoil your game if I answered that one. Bought from the German Police for £85k they had to spend over £200k improving the spec for the London streets (eg emissions). They were sold to a French company for scrap for £11k because they could not be sold at their market value because the market demand comes from repressive regimes and the original sale stipulated any resale should happen within Europe. The watercannons being used against the protestors in Hong Kong are German. It isn’t just a manifestation of Boris’ incompetence, the irony has not gone unnoticed by the protestors.......

mummmy2017 · 24/09/2019 16:05

Belinda de Lucy has just said it so well..
Tried to find it but was BBC interview.
The British sense of fair play is so in built that we quietly carry on trusting our Govenment to carry out the results of a vote as per their Election promises
But in the last three years these wishes and our trusts have been ignored and bypassed, people have finally had enough.

MockersthefeMANist · 24/09/2019 16:06

Not looking good for foghorn-voiced buffoon Geoffrey Cox who advised that prorogation for five weeks was lawful, say Sky News.

A GE would be a disaster for Labour.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why Corbyn keeps talking about one.

🤷‍♀️

GhostWalk · 24/09/2019 16:08

mummy your ignorance is astounding...this is not about remain or leave, it is about the law...

Musicalstatues · 24/09/2019 16:08

Oh my god I can’t believe that papers showing Geoffrey Cox told the govt it was lawful have just been leaked!! What an incredible coincidence!! Goodby Mr Fall Guy.....

Driedlimes · 24/09/2019 16:08

Saddened yet again by the 'Enemies of the People' insults & the 'judges backed remain' narrative (obviously not prevailing on this thread).

It's such utter rubbish.

The judgement is 25 pages of a clear plain English exposition of the constitution & a logical explanation for the SC decision.

Sadly I expect those who are hurling the abuse won't even bother to engage with even the summary.

TheElementsSong · 24/09/2019 16:09

people have finally had enough

In practice, what does this actually mean? Like, actually?

DGRossetti · 24/09/2019 16:10

The rule of law - especially over the executive - is essential for a country to be a democracy

And has been since time immemorial (which legal experts like green could tell us is actually the sixth of July 1189 in England).

I'm ashamed to be less hot on ancient Greece than Rome, but I'm pretty certain even they wrote of the importance of the rule of law.

And ultimately, isn't the Bible a big book of laws ? If only it had stayed that way ......
