Westministenders: Boris Johnson Broke The Law

RedToothBrush · 24/09/2019 11:05

ITS OFFICIAL
The Highest Court in the Land has ruled that Boris Johnson has broken the law.

Parliament is Sovereign.

Despite the calls for his resignation it is highly unlikely he will under the current political climate.

It must be stressed that the judgement was UNAMINOUS and went further than most expected, and took the hardest possible line again the government

The power now lies with the Speakers of the Lords and Commons to decide when Parliament reopens.

It also means that all the bills which were ended by proroguation are now back in play.

Expect a full backlash from the hard right attacking the courts are going full on 'enemies of the people'. This will be NASTY

The strength of this ruling does pretty much rule out another proroguation as the courts are liable to throw it out immediately if they try it on again.

Johnson is in New York. He needs to get on a plane very quickly.

Just as I was starting to think Corbyn could maybe be trusted with GNU, we had the conference.
Not so much the votes as the trying to remove Tom Watson.
The biggest issue is I'm not getting much sense that a GNU would have any idea what it actually wanted to do as a positive move forward.

The SNP doesn't get a conference recess (according to the guardian) so I would imagine they would vote against the conservatives getting one as well?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 24/09/2019 15:22

Thegrass

Your hyperbole would give Simon Heffer a run for his money

(That is not a compliment btw)

thecatfromjapan · 24/09/2019 15:22

@DGR 😂😂
Brilliant.
Yes. Truly a match made in an asylum.

Belindabelle · 24/09/2019 15:23

Just being googling Flying Flamingo scarves and Spider brooches. I also plan to make a donation to the Good Law Society and Led By Donkeys.

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2019 15:23

I see the Britain First petition has their favourite 4-letter word in their petition title
Sophisticated gang, these fascists

Similar sentiments expressed in the text though, to those of Greener. just more bluntly

If I found the fascist parties were agreeing with my detailled views, not just generalised motherhood & apple pie,
I'd review where I was going

Yes, pumpkin.

I'd add that another problem is that, as things stand - and shown by the Conference - majority of members' loyalties lie with Corbyn, rather than Labour, or even a Labour victory.

That is a huve problem on the way to a PB or GNU.

GhostWalk · 24/09/2019 15:25

Really Louise? How about the domestic violence Bill for a start.

DGRossetti · 24/09/2019 15:25

Any Jung fans in (sit down green) ?

In other news a real dictator (albeit dead 44 years) is being evicted ...

Sadly Lady Hale has dragged the Judiciary into disrepute

And all by herself. Or with her 10 clones?

Surely even the least bright can separate leaving the EU from upholding Parliament sovereignty. Both for better or worse.

tobee · 24/09/2019 15:27

I was going to say "no change there then" flouncy. But you're right! Extra odd today.

thecatfromjapan · 24/09/2019 15:27

That's (the loyalty) unfortunate given that the PLP must know a GE = carnage
But the members - a lot of them - are quite prepared to see the PLP as disloyal traitors. So won't listen to anyone but Corbyn telling them a GE is a Very Bad Idea.

And he won't.

mummmy2017 · 24/09/2019 15:28

Omg have you no idea of what has happened.
Your so busy popping corks to celebrate, to see just what you have failed to realise.
The courts have just backed remain over leave. Joe Public is not going to see this as anything more than theft of democracy, and by God they will punch the noses of those they elected to pass the leave deal who have failed them.
Just you wait and see, Corbyn won't do anything , he knows he is in the shit, and his sit on the fence act won't hold back the anger people feel.
The silent masses who swing elections may have been quiet for a few years but the buzz is growing, get us out of here.

Bluntness100 · 24/09/2019 15:28

The judges failed to address the issue of the sovereignty of the people, even though that is really the main issue.

No it wasn't, it was not remotely about anything other than what rhe hearing was about, which was is it their business, and was his decision to prorogue legal. They were very clear the case was not about brexit.

DGRossetti · 24/09/2019 15:28

We now face the biggest demonstration of civil unrest our country has ever seen if we do not exit on the 31st

No we don't. Admittedly it might be bigger than the protests on 29th March. But that could be just as easily be achieved by dropping a fiver in the street.

Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time.

Thegrasscouldbegreener · 24/09/2019 15:28

Louise Nothing will happen. No one from the government will show tomorrow or at all.

Next week the government will prorogue again for the Queens speech that is scheduled for the week after next....

It will achieve precious little I suspect.

Thegrasscouldbegreener · 24/09/2019 15:30

DG Wishful thinking babe.

Didn't the last Brexit demo have about 100 people? So even if it doubles...I'm a lot less worried about that than I am about leaving the EU without a deal in place.

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2019 15:30

The Supreme Court backing away, or ruling that the PM is above the law, would have been the most dangerous course

I haven't noticed any "hardened" Remainer here posting they would prefer the ruling had backed the PM

"the biggest demonstration of civil unrest our country has ever seen"

So the "Democratic Lads Football Aliiance" will be rioting again and attacking the police ?

They've done that
Won't intimidate any country, expect that "banana republic" you keep imagining

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 24/09/2019 15:31

mum Spot on. You can't seem to break through to some of the brainwashed that this is no way a good thing for them.

tobee · 24/09/2019 15:31

God they will punch the noses of those they

More violence being advocated!

Bluntness100 · 24/09/2019 15:31
