Westministenders: Boris Johnson Broke The Law

ITS OFFICIAL
The Highest Court in the Land has ruled that Boris Johnson has broken the law.

Parliament is Sovereign.

Despite the calls for his resignation it is highly unlikely he will under the current political climate.

It must be stressed that the judgement was UNAMINOUS and went further than most expected, and took the hardest possible line again the government

The power now lies with the Speakers of the Lords and Commons to decide when Parliament reopens.

It also means that all the bills which were ended by proroguation are now back in play.

Expect a full backlash from the hard right attacking the courts are going full on 'enemies of the people'. This will be NASTY

The strength of this ruling does pretty much rule out another proroguation as the courts are liable to throw it out immediately if they try it on again.

Johnson is in New York. He needs to get on a plane very quickly.

Just been contacted on Facebook by a Labour member, older than me, to inform me that I am a traitor to democracy for supporting the Supreme Court decision and posting this on Facebook. I informed him I'm no longer a member of the Labour Party.

You couldn't make this up!

Thegrasscouldbegreener · 24/09/2019 15:04

The gloves are most definitely off! Perhaps this is the only sensible thing you have said all day red

Boris Johnson will need to use every legitimate tool in his armour, and he has shown great patience with all of this. I do not expect it to last for much longer. Nor that of the people.

We are in a deep state situation, where the kangaroo remain courts run by the establishment appear to expect their ruling to have any creditability.

The courts have overstepped the mark. Judicial overreach. The Queen is not secondary to the courts. This is not going to end well, remarked more than one remainer today with very good reason.

Love to chat, but some of us are actually working!

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2019 15:05

"I think there were a few of us who said they'd go after the Monarchy next."

Farage's recent polemic against the Royal family, especially Prince Harry, was a major shot across the bows

  • now think what PH could have done to piss off Farage
bellinisurge · 24/09/2019 15:06

What a lot of silly childish nonsense from Grass.

Tonnerre · 24/09/2019 15:07

I'd love to know how any MP, let alone a Labour MP, contends that supporting a decision that allows oversight by a democratically elected Parliament makes someone a traitor to democracy.

Thegrasscouldbegreener · 24/09/2019 15:09

You can work out what democracy means Red oh so sorry I forgot you have no idea! [points in the direction of Wiki for militant remainers that have no idea how a true democracy should work, or even whether the UK can be considered a democracy anymore after this EU remain coup]

You haven't a shred of decency any of you.

Very poor losers.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 24/09/2019 15:09

Love to chat, but some of us are actually working

Yes, we know you are, and I hope they're paying you plenty for writing out this utter, utter drivel.

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2019 15:10

Oh dear, so BJ's patience is running out
And the people's

"What a lot of silly childish nonsense from Grass"

You've nailed it, bellini

All these sinister threats of what they'll do next
Most Leavers are far too sensible to get involved in riots or whatever is supposed to make us shiver in our boots

Now is the time for the grownups in Parliament, of all parties, to get together and decide what to do next

Tonnerre · 24/09/2019 15:10

"Kangaroo remain courts" Hmm. People who support Johnson seem to have given up even trying to come up with anything remotely rational.

Something tells me that, if we left the EU but another PM came in and decided to prorogue Parliament whilst he signs the treaty getting us back in, the likes of Thegrasscouldbegreener would be deeply grateful for a court prepared to intervene and prevent this.

thecatfromjapan · 24/09/2019 15:10

'Deep state' is a fantasy of people who are still, psychologically, teenagers: caught in a turmoil of simultaneously wanting parents around (afraid of the free-fall of assuming self-responsibility) whilst also wishing to indulge in the delicious pleasure of (ultimately safe, consequence-free) Rebellion.

Looks terrible on anyone over the age of 30; looks increasingly desperate with every 5 years you add on after that; looked seriously insane after you're 60.

thecatfromjapan · 24/09/2019 15:13

Anyway, people's vote.

I reckon it's on.

And including EU nationals (& young people, perhaps - given they are less inclined to vote) is both democratic and a game-changer.

pumkinspicetime · 24/09/2019 15:14

I find Grasses' contribution quite interesting because it lets me know what the Brexit party is going to say without having to go looking in Twitter etc.
It also shows a higher level of stress in that political grouping at present, which is positive.
Sadly the one thing it doesn't do is help find a way out of this mess.

thecatfromjapan · 24/09/2019 15:14

Big question is whether parliament can sort itself out to get a GNU or whether everything will get muffed up with a GE.

DGRossetti · 24/09/2019 15:15

In the interest of balance

www.britainfirst.org/supreme-court-petition

not quite sure why they've not aimed for a million ?

tobee · 24/09/2019 15:15

Very poor losers.

What? Like Boris Johnson lost this morning?

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2019 15:16

Normally, I'd expect the other parties in the HoC to agree to a few days recess for the Tory conference

However, since the entire conference clash was caused by BJ acting unlawfully and also repeatedly trampling over normal civilised conventions ......

Beth Rigbyy✔@BethRigby*

So what happens now?

  • short motion from govt to try & get 3-day recess 4 Tory conf < see about LDems below ! >
  • They’ll need to prorogue 4 Queens Speech.
So perhaps a very short prorogation (one/two days) b4 Oct 14
  • VONC. rebel & govt sources think unlikely as too many MPs not prepared to have Corbyn in
 Greg Heffer@GregHeffer

Lib Dem sources say they would vote against a government motion for a conference recess

StarryGazeyEyes · 24/09/2019 15:16

Don't know what made me think of this

I’d be seriously worried about changing the franchise from the 2016 one, it will lead to accusations of vote rigging.

Really interesting judgement on Prerogative powers which are in effect subjunctive to the norms and operations of the common law.

DGRossetti · 24/09/2019 15:18

'Deep state' is a fantasy of people who are still, psychologically, teenagers:

I think that dignifies it too much, to be honest. I'd rank it along with "Freeman of the Land".

In fact, I'm amazed at how well the Leave campaign managed to keep themselves free of the FOTL bollocks, they're a match made in an asylum somewhere.

prettybird · 24/09/2019 15:19

Just wanted to say to @LouiseCollins28 how much I admire her post of 13.19 Smile

DGRossetti · 24/09/2019 15:20

I did wonder if Boris was going to say

It's not illegal, when the Prime Minister does it

Thegrasscouldbegreener · 24/09/2019 15:20

Sadly Lady Hale has dragged the Judiciary into disrepute, and moreover has now set a deadly precedent.

If the most hardened remainers recognise that this is a step too far, and are now blanching at the prospect of a non elected supreme court ruling our country then that is very telling indeed. Yes you are right to feel worried and frightened.
The courts Independence - lost. Impartiality - lost. Creditability - lost. Respect - lost.

We now face the biggest demonstration of civil unrest our country has ever seen if we do not exit on the 31st, and every single thread of the deep state establishment, with the help of some truly deluded anti democratic remainers will have taken the country to the bottom of the abyss.

You will share that responsibility, because you could not, and would not do the honourable thing and accept the biggest vote in our history.

LouiseCollins28 · 24/09/2019 15:20

What will parliament will actually do tomorrow? is the next question. I suspect we'll be back to a similar position as was before the "break".

Thegrasscouldbegreener · 24/09/2019 15:21

People's vote is definitely on, its called a General Election!

Jezza needs to step up now, the pressure is mounting.

Bring it on people is all I can say!
