COULD Varadker play a blinder?

First, I have no personal skin in the game. Apart from the bomb scares of the 70s in British towns. And the nightly news.

Secondly, I have tried to keep abreast of the political landscape in NI, while understanding that there are complexities way beyond my ken at play.

And thirdly, a MN suspension, maybe six months ago, as an outsider musing whether it was deeply patronising to the people of NI to assume, as a matter of course, that the only way to broker differences was bombs and guns, there surely had to be other ways?- I was told in no uncertain terms that these were the only tools available, and that I should butt out as a non NI person....

SO. What if Varadker, highly unlikely, I know, were to offer reunification with an undertaking to respect Protestant rights? I recognise the economics, here- 70% of NI jobs are financed UK public sector. Could the republic pick up that slack? Would NI people earning that public sector cash want to jeopardise that?

But might that represent the first inkling of a way forward for NI? EU membership (and I'd bet ££ (I don't have 'euro, euro' on my keyboard! 😊) in order to sweeten that seismic shift; especially now NI must recognise that much of GB didn't even know, or care, about the GFA?

How soon before I am reported, in outrage?....

I think we have ourselves a prize numpty. Who knows fuck all.

Yadid · 22/09/2019 20:32

@Bellinsurge. You're a Brit with Irish parents. You know shite all.

bellinisurge · 22/09/2019 20:35

Only one Irish parent. The other was the son of EEuropean refugees from tyranny.

Yadid · 22/09/2019 20:36

Ye well you're not fucking Irish so stop claiming to speak on our behalf.

Yadid · 22/09/2019 20:38

You've your nose stuck in every thread on Ireland. You're not even Irish! Never lived in Ireland! Know nothing about the people of Ireland IN IRELAND. Stop trying to speak on behalf of the Irish people. You're British.

Yadid · 22/09/2019 20:39

I can tell you that Ireland do not want NI.

Yadid · 22/09/2019 20:39

We're not that fucking thick. 100 years ago maybe. Now? Hell no.

Yadid · 22/09/2019 20:41

NI is the Crown's problem to sort out. Leo Varadkar has great patience in trying to placate them and keep the peace. Patience wears thin though. There's only so much you can take.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 22/09/2019 20:42

^🤣🤣🤣

bellinisurge · 22/09/2019 20:43

I'm not trying to speak in behalf of Irish people you silly goose. I'm trying to speak as someone who is old enough to remember why GFA is fucking miraculous and worth protecting. And having an Irish mum and being based in NW England helps me understand a bit more than you clearly do.

Yadid · 22/09/2019 20:44

Ye, well, you're English honey. Sorry to break it to you. So stop telling everyone on every fucking thread that you're Irish. You're not.

bellinisurge · 22/09/2019 20:47

Nope. Been absolutely clear as to my ethnicity. And your charm and sophistication is obviously what this situation needs. Is that you, Katie?

Yadid · 22/09/2019 20:48

The only duty Varadkar has is to protect Ireland. He doesn't have to try to protect NI also. Have no idea why he is trying, but he is. Whether that's the man or the politics is anyone's guess.
Bellinsurge who claims to be the fucking oracle on all things Irish when she has never lived a day in Ireland is idiotic.
Irish people are just not like you baby.

Yadid · 22/09/2019 20:50

It's obvious from what and how you post that you're not Irish! So STOP fucking claiming to be Irish!

bellinisurge · 22/09/2019 20:53

I'm not claiming to be Irish. Why does that matter if I know why GFA is important. You are really very fizzed up about this.

Yadid · 22/09/2019 20:55

Just state that you're fucking English and stop trying to derail threads on Ireland with your misinformed views.

Yadid · 22/09/2019 20:56

I've seen you attempt to correct actual IRISH people's views.
You're English FFS!

Voila212 · 22/09/2019 20:56

Yadid I posted on your thread about the Troubles on the BBC, after watching that documentary and seeing the news footage how can you tell NI people to get over it. It's not that long ago, there are people living there that lost loved ones, that lost everything, that witnessed terrible violence and while time is a healer the wounds are still quite raw.

Backintime i agree, they think that Leo varadkar has a hidden agenda to bring a United Ireland which is further from the truth.
Bellinisurge I have read a lot of your posts and I know you are in favour of the backstop. I am too but what about when others say it will impact goods trading from NI to the UK ? Genuine question, I know must businesses and farmers want the border in the Irish sea but how would it impact goods going to the uk?

Voila212 · 22/09/2019 20:58

Most not must

Yadid · 22/09/2019 20:59

Because it's time to get over it. Just move on. Why drag the world and its mother into it.

bellinisurge · 22/09/2019 21:00

If they are from the UK (NI) they'll have what minimal paperwork or checkable e- papers to prove it as they travel to the UK. The point is that any checking can be done in transit.

bellinisurge · 22/09/2019 21:02

"The world and its mother" by which you mean Brexiteers. It's about time they fucking well paid attention to their responsibilities.

Yadid · 22/09/2019 21:02

I've no patience left for NI and I am actually Irish. At some point you have to say, look, you've had your tantrum, now it's time to move on... How long do you expect NI to carry their injuries? 2 decades isn't enough. So how long? At some point you have to say, look, sort yerselves out.

Yadid · 22/09/2019 21:03

What responsibilities?

Yadid · 22/09/2019 21:05

From what I've seen, the only side paying attention to the GFA is the EU... And yet NI belongs to the UK........ Riddle me that.
