If their was no hard border between Ireland/UK the WTO would have no problem with that unless a member state complained

PMSL - after the UK’s performance lately the other countries would be queuing up to complain and you can guarantee it would have to be resolved in less than β€˜several years’

placemats · 14/09/2019 18:42

What I find astonishing about these threads is that they don't seem to think that we can actually rejoin the EU.

We can do this by revoking Article 50 at ANY TIME because the original referendum was not legally binding.

But if you don't like it you can always spit on Michael Morpurgo.

Bearbehind · 14/09/2019 18:46

What I find astonishing about these threads is that they don't seem to think that we can actually rejoin the EU.

placemats I don’t think there’s a single person who thinks that πŸ€”

Remainers would probably like it to happen and Leavers are scared it could happen

placemats · 14/09/2019 18:47

Bearbehind (we geddit) Can you refrain from pissing yourself laughing for once, crying with laughing for once and take all of this seriously?

You are doing yourself no favours.

placemats · 14/09/2019 18:49

So what you are saying then Bearbehind, yeah we geddit, is contradictory!

Figures.

Bearbehind · 14/09/2019 18:51

You are doing yourself no favours

placemats neither are you - your post about people thinking we can never rejoin the EU was utter nonsense

Where am I not taking this seriously?

If you honestly believe that no other WTO country will mind if the UK leaves the EU but essentially retains the same trading agreements then I’d love to hear your rationale

As it stands I find that notion hysterical

Every country we’ve ever invaded, colonised etc will be queuing up to complain to the WTO

Bearbehind · 14/09/2019 18:52

placemats I think you need to go easy on the Gin

WTF is with all the β€˜geddits’?

DustyDiamond · 14/09/2019 19:09

What I find astonishing about these threads is that they don't seem to think that we can actually rejoin the EU.

We can do this by revoking Article 50 at ANY TIME because the original referendum was not legally binding.

What I find astonishing is that posters on pro-brexit threads think that pro-brexit posters are remotely interested in revoking A50 at all, let alone being remotely interested in its simplicity.

I also find it astonishing that some people are STILL beating they 'but it wasn't legally binding' drum in what has quite frankly become an incessant whine akin to white noise.

Bearbehind · 14/09/2019 19:11

dusty we might not agree on much but I’m totally in agreement with that.

DustyDiamond · 14/09/2019 19:16

I personally couldn't give a fuck how easy or otherwise it is to revoke A50.

I voted to leave, I was told repeatedly that the result would be implicated before the result, Leave won, I was then assured repeatedly after the result that it would be enacted, including during the 2017 GE by both Labour & Tories (who together won over 80% of the vote).

Thus, I expect Brexit to happen.

To revoke A50 now would be a disgrace & a huge act of dishonesty.

DustyDiamond · 14/09/2019 19:19

Tbh Bear, in any other circumstances than the rights & wrongs of Brexit I'm pretty sure we'd actually agree on many things - especially if we were in a real pub in real life!

frumpety · 14/09/2019 19:20

Why do you think East Europeans flock to work in UK rather than Germany?

Is it the weather ? howabout Grin

Bearbehind · 14/09/2019 19:21

You’re probably right dusty Wine

frumpety · 14/09/2019 19:24

Sorry , seriously though , I imagine its because we opened our borders to those eastern European countries several years before Germany ?

Oranginna · 14/09/2019 19:31

People have been asking for examples of corruption and waste in the EU. Here are just two:

  1. Airports:
An airport that loses €275 per passenger. A €16.5m runway that has never been used by the aircraft for which it was built. Another airport that receives just 4 per cent of the travellers that were forecast. These are some of the highlights of a report into EU-funded airports ... www.ft.com/content/9e587343-993c-32b6-9526-d409d5927b18
  1. That old chestnut the moving parliament - which costs 114 million a year
www.euronews.com/2019/05/20/eu-parliament-s-114m-a-year-move-to-strasbourg-a-waste-of-money-but-will-it-ever-be-scrapp

If you look you can find hundreds more examples. Some are just a silly waste of money like the parliament. Others are actual fraud and corruption involving organised criminals.
You can also find maps of the EU showing where most corruption/fraud/waste/organised crime occurs. I don't want to name the countries here but they are swallowing up a lot of money that comes from taxpayers in the UK and the other net contributers. Many of these taxpayers are not well off and struggle to make ends meet themselves. Why should their money go to help fraudsters build a phoney airport in a country they may never visit?

yellowallpaper · 14/09/2019 19:34

Bearbehind. An example of profligacy with our and others EU contributions is the travelling circus which is the move from Brussels to Strasbourg at a cost of around Β£150 million. The waste of money is indefensible and I am sure is just the tip of the iceberg,

As for belonging to a club and getting less out than we put in, surely the money we pay in is nothing more than tax and checks on goods paid by some other countries, but paid in advance rather than at borders? So it's not saving us money, we pay in advance. The research money, the regional development money, the money 'invested' in this country, is simply our own money, but passing through the hands of multiple EU agencies before landing back on our own doorsteps with everyone taking a cut/salary.

Eu directives/laws could just as easily be made by our own government. Before it descended into chaos and comedy, it was a credible government capable of making decent legislation, without the interference of legislators who have never set foot in the U.K. we've been doing OK for hundreds of years after all.

The eu is just a microcosm of central government when everyone accepts that regional government is the best option for improvements at a regional level.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 14/09/2019 19:37

you can guarantee it would have to be resolved in less than β€˜several years’ So you are saying the WTO has a fast track resolution process? Pray tell where they have been keeping that secret?

after the UK’s performance lately the other countries would be queuing up to complain As I explained, in that situation the UK could apply for a national security waiver for the NI/ROI border.

So you still haven't said who is going to erect this 'hard border'?

Dapplegrey · 14/09/2019 19:39

bellinisurge
BELEAVERS IRRATIONAL REACTION TO QUESTIONS SYNDROME (BIRQS): the irrational and angry reaction of BeLeavers to any question at all regarding their rationale/logic/knowledge or indeed any question whatsoever by Remainers resulting in refusal to engage at all, or else claims of being accused of being thick and/or racist even in complete absence of any such accusations.

Have a look on the β€˜How will it end’ thread. There are some extremely unpleasant comments accusing a poster of being thick.

darkcloudsandsunnyskies · 14/09/2019 19:53

@Bearbehind

Are you on something.
You keep making sweeping generalisations.
Nobody knows what will happen when we leave apart from you.

DustyDiamond · 14/09/2019 19:59

Just went & had a quick look at that thread Dapple.

The usual names like a swarm of vultures in a frenzy of OUTRAGE & DEVASTATION one-upmanship with the typical heavy dollop of nasty.

Plus Γ§a change...

bellinisurge · 14/09/2019 20:03

Diddums.

Bearbehind · 14/09/2019 20:03

Are you on something. You keep making sweeping generalisations.
Nobody knows what will happen when we leave apart from you.

dark I’ve literally no idea what you are on about.

Leaving the EU isn’t a complete unknown - by applying a tiny bit of common sense and you can see the pitfalls

Do you honestly think every other WTO country will just let us have the same deal with the EU as we had before when they can’t?

twofingerstoEverything · 14/09/2019 20:04

Dapplegrey - I saw that thread. What you're not mentioning is that it was a response to said poster telling someone to 'get a fucking grip' when they expressed sadness at the way the country was 'being torn apart'. If you tell someone who is upset to 'get a fucking grip', you're hardly covering yourself in glory are you? But you seem not to mind the context - just that a Leaver was called thick.

Bearbehind · 14/09/2019 20:04

So you still haven't said who is going to erect this 'hard border'?

Whoever is told to by the WTO - most likely a joint effort.

yellowallpaper · 14/09/2019 20:05

And what about the news that the eurozone is contracting and having financial problems, to the extent that are going to be doing some 'quantitive easing'? aka throwing good money after bad.

And Germany is heading for a recession.

So if the EU is so wonderful financially why is this happening.

My only issue is with money when it comes to the EU
