Dusty, Since the vote racial tensions have increased and many EU citizens have either left the UK and not even bothered coming here, there have been reports of eu citizens and others attacked.

Polling suggests that many people voted leave for racial reasons but of course these sorts of people wont be posting on MN.

bellinisurge · 20/09/2019 09:19

"We are no more a homogenous mass than are Remain voters."
Although it suits Leavers to talk about themselves as the People; the 52% etc etc.
Rather disingenuous of you to pretend that they haven't.

bellinisurge · 20/09/2019 09:20

And then of course to talk about Remoaners etc etc. As some sort of homogeneous bunch.
Tsk tsk.

time4chocolate · 20/09/2019 09:23

People used to say that about Mo Mowlam, too

WTAF!!
I don’t know what your point was, maybe it was it just to throw something back at me. You might want to think first before posting.

DustyDiamond · 20/09/2019 09:31

And then of course to talk about Remoaners etc etc. As some sort of homogeneous bunch.
Tsk tsk.

Remain voters are not homogenous.

Remoaners however, share a sizeable number of traits.

Remain voters & remoaners may have voted the same way, but they are not the same.

twofingerstoEverything · 20/09/2019 09:34

WTAF Bellini? My point is people used to denigrate Mo Mowlem and accuse her of having had liquid lunches when she was seriously ill. Timefor is taking cheap shots at Juncker. Support that if you want, but I won't.

bellinisurge · 20/09/2019 09:35

Fair enough @twofingerstoEverything . My apologies. I thought you were taking a dig a Mo Mowlem. ThanksBrew

twofingerstoEverything · 20/09/2019 09:36

I think you know exactly what my point is, timefor.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 20/09/2019 09:36

Remain voters & remoaners may have voted the same way, but they are not the same

Agree.
The vast majority of remain voters are normal, ordinary, nice people who just voted for what they know.
Remoaners, on the other hand, are aggressive, spiteful, & full of hate.

bellinisurge · 20/09/2019 09:37

@DustyDiamond , I know who I would rather be like. Hint: it's not a bunch of numpties with a hard on for World War Two.

DustyDiamond · 20/09/2019 09:39

Although it suits Leavers to talk about themselves as the People; the 52% etc etc*
Rather disingenuous of you to pretend that they haven't.

'The people' = a phrase commonly used as shorthand for the majority (winning) sector of the electorate in a democracy.

'The 52%' = Leave voters numbered (almost) 52%

I have at no point pretended that these phrases have not been used btw.

In the context of 'how did you vote' there is homogeneity obviously as there are only 3 categories: Leave, Remain, did not vote

To ascribe individualistic traits, beliefs, attitudes etc to any of those groups as a whole is lazy nonsense.

DustyDiamond · 20/09/2019 09:43

DustyDiamond , I know who I would rather be like. Hint: it's not a bunch of numpties with a hard on for World War Two.

Who's got 'a hard on for World War Two'?

I cannot see any posts on this thread where the poster expresses this.

The (many) Leave voters I know do not fit your stereotype, just as the (many) remain voters I know do not fit the remoaner stereotype.

AuldAlliance · 20/09/2019 09:45

In the context of 'how did you vote' there is homogeneity obviously as there are only 3 categories: Leave, Remain, did not vote

...and "was deprived of the right to vote."

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 20/09/2019 09:48

bellinisurge

I find your constant sexual references a little creepy. Hmm
If you want to talk about erections why don’t you chat on the sex threads.

jasjas1973 · 20/09/2019 09:53

Leave, Remain, Did not vote, are all equally split at around a 1/3rd of the electorate each.

Its why we are in this mess and why Brexit will dominate politics for the next decade or so, whatever happens on 31/10

We are where we are but having such a fundamental decision decided on a simple majority was crazy, what if Leave (or remain) had won by 10 votes?

DustyDiamond · 20/09/2019 09:56

...and "was deprived of the right to vote."

Ok.

So 4 groupings

But in any of those 4 groups, individual traits, beliefs, attitudes etc cannot be ascribed to the group as a whole, no matter how desperately some people try to spin it.

DustyDiamond · 20/09/2019 10:06

We are where we are but having such a fundamental decision decided on a simple majority was crazy, what if Leave (or remain) had won by 10 votes?

I agree.
But this was entirely in the hands of Parliament - they could have set parameters & chose not to.

This is why any further ref on the topic with Leave/Remain options should have stringent parameters, and should not be considered valid unless an equal or greater turnout is achieved, with equal or greater threshold to the original result (providing a valid turnout)

Should Remain 'win' with less than 51.89% on a turnout greater than or equal to 72.1% then result should not overturn 2016; similarly, should Remain 'win' with more than 51.89% on a turnout of less than 72.1% then 2016 result stands.

time4chocolate · 20/09/2019 10:14

I think you know exactly what my point is,

No truthfully I didn’t because I have never ever heard that said about Mo Mowlam.

I may have made a cheap shot but I think it’s common knowledge that he likes a drink. Unless you are saying it’s quite normal to ruffle up women’s hair, kiss men’s heads and use the word erotic in a political interview (amongst other things). Of course if it turns out that he is seriously ill then I will apologise profusely.

Its fine for you keep up your cheap shots at anyone in the political arena that you don’t agree with but I can’t take a cheap shot at someone I don't agree with. The bloke is a prize wally.

On MN though EU politicians are sacrosanct and beyond criticism (unless they are Brexit MEPs and then they are fair game) Confused

DustyDiamond · 20/09/2019 10:28

It's his 'sciatica' Time4... πŸ˜‰

twofingerstoEverything · 20/09/2019 11:14

Unless you are saying it’s quite normal to ruffle up women’s hair, kiss men’s heads and use the word erotic in a political interview (amongst other things). Of course if it turns out that he is seriously ill then I will apologise profusely.
Except I'm not saying any of those things, am I, and you did not say any of them in your earlier post either. You are just mentioning them now having been called out. The speculation about Merkel shaking recently was equally disgusting.

bellinisurge · 20/09/2019 11:23

Good lord @dirtyrottenscoundrel . Maybe you need to spend a bit more time with actual people. Or perhaps the people I know who use that expression (and call people twats) aren't naice enough for you.

bellinisurge · 20/09/2019 11:36

"I cannot see any posts on this thread where the poster expresses this."

Have a little look at Mystery's recent posts which have plenty of reference to the war and how the French hate us. Ffs.
Disown this stupid shit.

time4chocolate · 20/09/2019 11:58

You are just mentioning them now having been called out Confused

bellinisurge · 20/09/2019 12:57

These threads are full of people invoking the Blitz spirit and "we managed in the war" πŸ˜‚as well as [insert name of EU country] owe us or hate us.

Parker231 · 20/09/2019 15:09

Eight sea, rail and air freight companies have been shortlisted for government contracts to transport critical goods, including vital medical supplies in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

The companies, including ferry operator DFDS and P&O, will bid for contracts to provide emergency freight capacity from 31 October, using ports away from the congested Channel routes between Dover and Calais, Dunkirk and Boulogne.
