80% of business tends to come from 20% of customers - we've just started from the bottom of our customer list coz they're easier to do and make @Clavinova wet herself with excitement Smile

Clavinova · 16/09/2019 23:18

In February we had only rolled out Β£16bn of Β£117bn trade deals we had through the EU (with non-EU countries) - by 22nd August (when we signed a continuity trade agreement with South Korea) we had rolled out Β£89 billion of trade deals - that's quite an improvement in 6 months;

www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-and-korea-to-sign-trade-continuity-deal-to-ensure-businesses-are-ready-to-trade-post-brexit

We are clearly not starting "from scratch".

If I had a pound for every time I read on Mumsnet/hear on the radio that we have no trade deals at all...

Jason118 · 16/09/2019 23:45

@Clavinova it may well be an improvement - having a hook rather than no hand is an improvement but it's still not better than having a hand. You seem to think that if Brexit gets us to 80% of where we already are, then it's some sort of success! Just weird. With respect to the South Korea potential agreement (when ratified) country of origin relaxation will only apply for 3 years.

Are they all trade deals or letters of intent?

We have not signed or have anything in place with our largest trading partner... the EU, with a total of Β£237 billion of manufactured exports.

We lose this frictionless export market overnight in a Johnson no-deal dream brexit.

Does anyone really think that Airbus or PSA (longterm) will stay in the UK ? these jobs will be very welcomed within the EU, the political pressure to move EU companies out of the UK will be v high.

Parker231 · 17/09/2019 08:05

It’s going to be really difficult for the UK with trade deals due to the MFN clauses. The complexities of the different agreements are going to slow down the process. There is nothing positive for the UK.

Clavinova · 17/09/2019 15:53

Are they all trade deals or letters of intent?

Signed trade deals as per the link;

"Trade agreements that have been signed"
"Agreements with the following countries and trading blocs will take effect when the UK leaves the EU."

Except for the latest deal with the Southern African countries - which was only agreed last week;

"A trade agreement with the Southern Africa Customs Union and Mozambique (SACU+M) trade bloc has been agreed in principle. We expect to sign the agreement with SACU+M shortly."

With respect to the South Korea potential agreement (when ratified) country of origin relaxation will only apply for 3 years.

"the South Korean government plans to bring the agreement up for ratification in the National Assembly before Brexit."

english.hani.co.kr/arti/english_edition/e_international/907073.html

Three years buys us more time if we leave the EU without a deal - I think we will all be disappointed if we can't agree some sort of deal with the EU by 31st October 2022.

There is nothing positive for the UK.

Not at all - the conclusion in Jason118's link says this;

"Nevertheless, the UK–Korea FTA is a very welcome development." "It also shows the other trade partners of the EU a pragmatic example of what they could negotiate themselves with the UK."

Does anyone really think that Airbus or PSA (longterm) will stay in the UK?

Airbus, yes - "European planemaker Airbus wants to stay in the UK whatever the outcome of Brexit, as the country is β€œa very important pillar” for the company, new CEO Guillaume Faury said on Tuesday (21 May), amending negative comments made by his predecessor."

"Airbus, seen as the poster child of industrial integration in creating European champions, also wants to be β€œmore Asian” to be closer to its fastest-growing markets."

β€œwe want to stay in the UK”, regardless of the Brexit outcome and the future long-term relation between London and the EU, as he highlighted the high-skilled workforce and its research facilities in the UK."^

β€œUK is part of Airbus and Airbus is part of the UK…and we would like to preserve that,”

www.euractiv.com/section/aviation/news/airbus-now-wants-to-remain-in-uk-regardless-of-brexit-outcome/

"AirPlane parts are exempt from default World Trade Organization (WTO) tariffs under a 1980 pact signed by both the EU and Britain in its own right."

jasjas1973 · 17/09/2019 16:53

Good on the FTA front.

The Airbus comments are 5 months old and as points out, AB is keen to be close to its Asian market.

Still doesn't address that the UK exports Β£237 billion of goods to the EU and has not even began to talk about the future relationship.

Septembersunrays · 17/09/2019 17:01

Jas isn't it exhausting having to read good news and then re frame it in a negative way, all the time.

Parker231 · 17/09/2019 17:14

It’s not the case of reframing news - it’s being sensible in the same way as most employers will be where their business is at risk.

Latest from Airbus - With a β€˜no deal’ scenario, Airbus foresees significant disruptions to its supply chain and production processes. In turn, the company predicts that delays and associated penalties will ensue a financial prejudice amounting up to €1bn of weekly losses in turnover.

BelleHathor · 17/09/2019 17:20

Woah just watching the chase on ITV and saw the get ready for Brexit advert. It might actually be happening πŸ€”

Clavinova · 17/09/2019 17:23

The Airbus comments are 5 months old

Less than four months old and a complete turnaround to the negative comments made by the previous CEO in January.

Brexit advertising campaigning

BelleHathor · 17/09/2019 17:32

Thanks I knew about the campaign and have heard the radio adverts on LBC for a couple of weeks and seen them on YouTube. Just surprised to see a prime time tv advert.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 17/09/2019 17:32

So it turns out remainers broke the law during the EU referendum. I have a feeling the MSM wont be highlighting the complete hypocrisy.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/09/2019 17:34

If both parties broke the law then it really is best to just void the result then. It sounds like the fairest option to me.

Clavinova · 17/09/2019 17:47

Latest from Airbus - those figures appeared in an article dated June 2018 - prior to the government's contingency planning, simplified customs arrangements etc.

Currently Airbus are worried about US trade sanctions on European planes - staying in the EU doesn't really help us on that front.

Septembersunrays · 17/09/2019 18:27

No word of ref were purely based on a campaign perhaps.

Thankfully most leave voters did lots of research and only those who didn't know what to do were swung by campaign on both sides.

Leave apparently didn't break the law. I know remain made a huge deal of it but to me personally it's negligible. I know most people did wider research and have wider knowledge.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/09/2019 18:31

Leave did break the law. The Electoral Commission confirmed that if the referendum had been binding, they'd have voided the result due to Leave's campaign.

Septembersunrays · 17/09/2019 18:32

Parker, it's very much re framing and it's so boring.

It's also nonsense like jasjas trying to say nation States are responsible for everything wrong with the eu. Scratch the surface and anyone can see that's not true on many levels. So why do it.

Not a single leaver on these threads will change their minds and certainly not over kindergarten level twisting of the truth.

The other feeling is that even if we could see into the future, and we were shown that brexit is very much the correct descion in all ways, maybe euro collapses, eu outed as corrupt beyond redemption, guy goes mad and becomes next Hitler/napoleon, the far right eventually takes over eu..

No remainer would say thank goodness... It's actually good we are leaving... Because in some ways it's a mentality..

NoWordForFluffy · 17/09/2019 18:33

There's a whole wiki page dedicated to it.

Septembersunrays · 17/09/2019 18:33

Oh gosh, how many people made up their minds based on campaign?

Neglible amount.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/09/2019 18:35

Because in some ways it's a mentality..

As is the no deal cult.

There's ardent / obsessed people on both sides.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/09/2019 18:35

Do you speak for 17.4m people September?! How can you possibly know that to be true. It's utter, utter bullshit!

Septembersunrays · 17/09/2019 18:36

No fluff....

How did remain break the campaign....

Septembersunrays · 17/09/2019 18:38

How many people was it that were swayed not only by the scaremongering from remain campaign but the other tricks pulled by remain campaign.

Do you think it must be a lot..

Maybe parliament should be prorouged for longer because the margin for leave must be even bigger...
