Westminstenders: "He's in trouble". No he's not.

All day I've seen nothing but comments and tweets about he Johnson is in trouble and he's losing it.

They are wrong. He's far from done.

Take a step through the Looking Glass and the world looks different.

Those tweeting and reporting all care about events and are following closely. They are unrepresentative of the population as a whole who don't give two shiny shits.

And so we have the Trump dynamic.

The Liberal elite of broadcasters and journalists who are only seeing through the lens of their own judgement, not from the repackaged marketing.

Instead they are unwittingly publishing the images and slogans in the format Johnson wants and enter the minds of the public as planned.

The media are out of step with perceptions. And that's worrying. They don't see what's coming.

Johnson will have an election at some point. With the Tory party cleansed of moderates it is the Brexit Party one way or another, whether it be by takeover or coalition. And its riding high in the polling.

Even though even his brother has abandoned him, the future looks positive for Johnson as his opponents have a complete lack of self awareness and no understanding of the opposition they are taking on; they are campaigning in a way that plays into the hands of Johnson.

Despite his lack of majority and apparently absence of plan or speech notes, the biggest mistake you can make now is to write off Johnson.

You do so at your own peril.

Pay close attention to how authoritarians work and what's already happened in the US. We are on course to repeat it.

Lots of new posters on this thread Hmm

Lifebi · 06/09/2019 20:52

If a GNU is formed can they order the civil service to publish the yellowhammer report in full so leavers can see what awaits them if no deal happens?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 06/09/2019 20:59

Theyre rattled af Grin Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 06/09/2019 21:01

jas Even offering a PV is unacceptable to most Leavers

A revoke would lead to a hard right backlash at the next GE, regardless of whether it is after a PV

Leavers regard it as Remainers rerunning the ref because we didn't like the result

I can understand their pov:
If we had won by 52:48 and then Leave kept trying to force Parliament to Invoke Article 50 - and might manage it - I'd be fucking furious
and if there were a GE I'd vote for just about anybody who'd stop that and accept that we won

Another big problem is that opinion hasn't changed much since the ref:
That 52% included all types of Leave, from BRINO to No Deal
The different Leaves don't like each others' version much, which is why Remain might beat Leave in a 2-way contest

If I thought Remain would romp home, I'd risk the rightwing backlash
However, more likely we'd reverse the 52:48, or in fact lose again - "tell them again" is a powerful slogan

Lots of new posters on this thread hmm

Standard for a weekend.

Expected it to be busier considering it’s all kicking off Brexitwise.

jasjas1973 · 06/09/2019 21:04

Yellowhammer = Project fear, if you put most leavers in a time capsule and showed them mass starvation, they are still too obstinate to change their minds.

Greenpeacefriendforlife · 06/09/2019 21:04

You really are the exception, I know of absolutely no one else that would do this in RL oub

Apileofballyhoo · 06/09/2019 21:05

Thanks for that 0lga. Is that in answer to the Fonzies q?

Am I missing something really obvious, jasjas?

Butterymuffin · 06/09/2019 21:06

That might be the signal getting through. Or it might be the toffs bumbling around and slouching on the front benches that is getting through. A lot being said confidently about what the public think, but little actually known.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/09/2019 21:06

Bravo We've seen from some Tory Remainer posters here & elsewhere on MN, that they are more scared of losing their money to Corbyn than to No Deal

I hope you are more typical though !

OublietteBravo · 06/09/2019 21:08

I'm fairly sure that a Revoke would turn a probable Tory working majority win into a massive landslide for them

Well in that case revoking A50 should be a complete no-brainer for BJ then. He’d love a massive landslide. WinkGrin

RedToothBrush · 06/09/2019 21:08

Why does nothing come up on Google for this guy?

He's a joke.

Cos Cummings wouldn't make a comment about The Fonz, because he's above that as he's an evil genuis mastermind who knows every political idea ever.

Or he's just jumping the shark with bollocks.

As i said, they are a bunch of lunatics lol!

ListeningQuietly · 06/09/2019 21:10

BCF / Oubliette
I know lots of high income remainers who have always voted Tory
but who fear "No Deal" far more than they fear Corbyn

if nothing else, Corbyn has to stand for election again within 5 years
but Brexit is for ever

BigChocFrenzy · 06/09/2019 21:10

Greenpeace How many Remainers do you know ?

You certainly don't seem to know much about the bank where you claim to work
Either you hadn't read their statement about No Deal,
or you think you know better than those who run your bank - have you told them ?

DGRossetti · 06/09/2019 21:10

The cool like fonzies thing is from Pulp Fiction ....

OublietteBravo · 06/09/2019 21:10

For the record I’m also a high earner (6 figure salary - I already pay about £1000 per week in tax), but I’d still do it to avoid no deal.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/09/2019 21:11

Thanks, Listening Smile
Good to know

pigeononthegate · 06/09/2019 21:11

Is that what Tory voters really think, that nasty Mr Corbyn is going to make off with all their loot?

Basilpots · 06/09/2019 21:11

@Greenpeacefriendforlife

It’s surprising about Tory voters going Corbyn but in one of the previous Westminsterender threads around about the time of the Euro elections Red linked some polling that over 1m Tory voters went Labour in 2017.

Greenpeacefriendforlife · 06/09/2019 21:12

big yup that is pretty much the strength of it. Leavers are absolutely fucking furious, more worryingly it is the silent fury that builds up from the inside. It isn’t just a battle for Brexit anymore but for referendums and democracy now. A fury for the liberal elite that smile like silent assassins whilst they destroy our trust in everything. It is unforgivable.

So you are damn right that leavers will never ever stop until Brexit is delivered.
In addition during this whole horror show many remainers have revised their view of the EU. The intransigence and disrespect has been too much. We shouldn’t forget those that wanted to vote leave but were too afraid.

Greenpeacefriendforlife · 06/09/2019 21:13

i wouldn’t call you a high earner sorry oub

borntobequiet · 06/09/2019 21:14

Oh well. I’d take a Corbyn Government over a no deal Brexit. And I’d take May’s Withdrawal Agreement over a no deal Brexit. Neither is ideal, but is far better than the alternative. Why are we as a country crucifying ourselves (and causing enormous inconvenience and angst to others) over pretty much nothing?
God knows. I don’t.

Greenpeacefriendforlife · 06/09/2019 21:16

big I am surrounded by remainers where I live. Good mix of both in the office. Remainders are incredibly vocal generally about the virtues of the EU, everyone else smiles, rolls their eyes and moves onto a more neutral subject. At dinner parties the subject is now banned here. To be fair I don’t expect you notice.
