Westminstenders: "He's in trouble". No he's not.

RedToothBrush · 06/09/2019 00:48

All day I've seen nothing but comments and tweets about he Johnson is in trouble and he's losing it.

They are wrong. He's far from done.

Take a step through the Looking Glass and the world looks different.

Those tweeting and reporting all care about events and are following closely. They are unrepresentative of the population as a whole who don't give two shiny shits.

And so we have the Trump dynamic.

The Liberal elite of broadcasters and journalists who are only seeing through the lens of their own judgement, not from the repackaged marketing.

Instead they are unwittingly publishing the images and slogans in the format Johnson wants and enter the minds of the public as planned.

The media are out of step with perceptions. And that's worrying. They don't see what's coming.

Johnson will have an election at some point. With the Tory party cleansed of moderates it is the Brexit Party one way or another, whether it be by takeover or coalition. And its riding high in the polling.

Even though even his brother has abandoned him, the future looks positive for Johnson as his opponents have a complete lack of self awareness and no understanding of the opposition they are taking on; they are campaigning in a way that plays into the hands of Johnson.

Despite his lack of majority and apparently absence of plan or speech notes, the biggest mistake you can make now is to write off Johnson.

You do so at your own peril.

Pay close attention to how authoritarians work and what's already happened in the US. We are on course to repeat it.

I don’t entirely disagree with his rationale for not going ahead with it now however it just goes to show how pointless and ineffective his calls for one always were - thus how pathetic his opposition to this mess has been

Or it just shows the balance of power always lay with the Tories ?

All around there's an asymmetry of power, so it's hardly surprising that it throws up "odd" outcomes.

dontcallmelen · 06/09/2019 15:13

DGRI live in hope, it’s such a simple easy soundbite.

Violetparis · 06/09/2019 15:14

Cendrillonsings Corbyn and the opposition parties have already said in public that they are engineering a delay to an election to prevent a no deal Brexit on 31st Oct. They are not hiding this reason, thinking people won't notice.

FFS the opposition parties are delaying an election for a few weeks not a few years.

Bearbehind · 06/09/2019 15:21

Or it just shows the balance of power always lay with the Tories?

It probably did but only because Corbyn has splinter in his backside.

If he’d come down firmly in favour of Remain or at least SM/CU the 2017 election may well have been very different

As it is his party have said one thing but he’s said another throughout, which is basically because he’s actually in favour of Leave.

DGRossetti · 06/09/2019 15:22

Corbyn and the opposition parties have already said in public that they are engineering a delay to an election to prevent a no deal Brexit on 31st Oct.

Which is a damn sight more transparent than Boris denying he wants an election in order to get an election that he later admits we wants despite not wanting it.

Also the discussions between the Rebel Alliance are a damn sight more open than the Tory/DUP ones which were then allowed to run the fucking country for two years.

Honestly, the Tories could be having a black mass, eating babies and throwing the bones out of the window whilst a forlorn Corbyn does his best to gather the pathetic mortal remains for a decent burial, and the headline would only be that he hasn't combed his hair.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 06/09/2019 15:22

Awww bless, Cendrillion always on message no matter how unhinged Wink

Violetparis · 06/09/2019 15:26

JustAnotherPoster00 great response from KFC.

bellinisurge · 06/09/2019 15:27

Election delayed by a couple of weeks to stop a wankfest is not refusing.

PerkingFaintly · 06/09/2019 15:28

Corbyn and the opposition parties have already said in public that they are engineering a delay to an election to prevent a no deal Brexit on 31st Oct

See, even that language accepts the Johnson-Cummings premise.

Back on planet earth, there is no delay and no engineering against an election.

Corbyn simply hasn't accepted Johnson's plea to BRING THE ELECTION FORWARD – right into the time the country should be busy working on a Best for Britain Brexit.

pumkinspicetime · 06/09/2019 15:28

Pity isn't it, that the Fixed Term Parliaments Act came in under a Tory led administration and now it's being used by the opposing parties to thwart Johnson?

I reckon that the act is doing the job it was meant to do. It was brought in to provide stability in a time of national crisis and that is exactly the situation we are currently in.
It is forcing politicians to look for solutions to the current crisis by working together rather than kicking the can down the road by having a GE.

Peregrina · 06/09/2019 15:30

A pity too that May squandered a perfectly good majority, and that Johnson has compounded it further by chucking out the sensible Tories in the party. Otherwise he could have had the Fixed Term Parliament Act repealed. Oh dear, oh dear, you do have to feel sorry for the mess the Tories are in. (No)

When No Deal is off the table, once and for all, we should go back to the people in a public vote or a General Election to decide our country’s future.

DGRossetti · 06/09/2019 15:33

Now if I were running team Corbyn, I'd be seeking out Brenda from Bristol and see if I could get an appreciative soundbite where she (re)expresses her dismay at the prospect of another election and thanks Jeremy for holding off.

There can always be two ways to play a game.

QueenOfThorns · 06/09/2019 15:35

PerkingFaintly I used the phrase 'engineering a delay' as that's what the post I was replying to said. It's not the language I would normally use and should have put the phrase in quotation on my post !

pumkinspicetime · 06/09/2019 15:38

If I were team Corbyn I'd get the bloke who told BJ to get to Brussels and start working for a deal.
I'd find people in all the other places BJ has been pissing around with a similar message.
And end with a message it was time for Boris to start working for them.

ListeningQuietly · 06/09/2019 15:39

I admit it, I think that Maze picture is an absolute winner.
Brilliant.
It will appeal to the 50% of the electorate who want leave.
It will appeal to those who want simple solutions.
It shows up the fence sitting for what it is.

The fact that it says nothing about the actual Brexit process is utterly beside the point.

Labour HQ need to fight back with
Bozo in Trumps top pocket and Farage in his side pocket with Putin pulling all their strings

pumkinspicetime · 06/09/2019 15:40

You could also end with telling him to get the rest of his team to start working and end with the slouching JRM picture.
We are working why aren't you type of thing.

PerkingFaintly · 06/09/2019 15:40

Yes yes, Violet. Sorry, I'm not trying to make anyone feel picked on!

Just needed an eg to show how easily we slip into accepting the frames of reference fed to us by the loudest PR machine!

Ouchies · 06/09/2019 15:40

I see Emily Thornberry was on QT last night talking perfect (non)sense. She said that Labour's plan would be to get a new deal from the EU and then have a ref where they would campaign against it.

No wonder they're holding off an election with policies like that. I say that as a former Labour voter.

Bearbehind · 06/09/2019 15:43

What does Corbyn, therefore Labour, actually want here though?

He doesn’t want no deal but what does he want?

Because I’m not aware of which red lines he’s prepared to drop in order to get a different deal and, unless he is prepared to do that then he’s no better than TM, BJ etc in thinking he can get better from the EU if he can only try.

SistemaAddict · 06/09/2019 15:43

That maze picture is more a case of how the tories said it would be vs how it's been so far.

That’s what I thought it was at first 😂
