We would never have been forced into ever closer union

That was also one of Cameron's 2015 achievements - the UK is not committed to further political integration into the European Union.

Oh yes, isn’t there a β€œspecial place in Hell” for people like that?

twofingerstoEverything · 04/09/2019 06:37

We’re gonna need a Hubris emoji

Quite. There's no greater example of rich, self-serving charlatans playing with the lives of people than her majesty's government!

twofingerstoEverything · 04/09/2019 06:51

I think this piece sums up perfectly some of the Leavers' attitudes I've read on these threads.
I've lost count of the number of times mummy has said it wasn't up to her to know/imagine/consider how Brexit could or might be delivered, despite her voting for it. This just about sums up that attitude, along with the one that demands remainers 'get behind it' so we can 'just get on with it'.

Enjoy Grin

smallbusinessprices.co.uk/remain-eu/

I suggest everyone reads this list of reasons to stay in the UK and consider how we are going to replicate those benefits when we’re stuck on the outside.

merrymouse · 04/09/2019 07:04

How long till the EU come knocking on our door again asking for funds to bailout another EU country 'because we are part of the EU'

Ironically the government is relying on EU good will to β€˜bail out’ Britain in the event of No Deal, the theory being that it would be in their long term interests, despite there being no legal obligation to do so.

And the UK has not always been reluctant to give up Sterling. There were plenty of people on the other side arguing to join the euro

If anything it’s now more likely that the U.K. would join the Euro at some time in the future because it’s unlikely that the current terms of membership would be available on rejoining.

mummmy2017 · 04/09/2019 07:31

If I were the EU, I would say no extension just go already .

time4chocolate · 04/09/2019 08:06

I wish they would mummy, we have spent the last 3 years looking like a bunch of clowns, last night was the icing on the cake (or maybe not, they might be saving that for tonightπŸ˜‰).

ContinuityError · 04/09/2019 08:14

mummmy2017 · 04/09/2019 08:26

They must know the polls say a Tory win.
So more of the same.
Endless delays.

Parker231 · 04/09/2019 08:29

Torys might win a GE although no means guaranteed with tactical voting but at least there won’t be a no deal exit next month.

TheSultanofPingu · 04/09/2019 08:33

If Brexit is happening, which sadly I suspect it still is, it needs to be done by a Tory government. They need to own their shit!

ContinuityError · 04/09/2019 08:44

Corbyn not being drawn into the VoNC trap - so outflanking Cummings/Johnson for the time being.

So yes to Tories owning their own shit.

mummmy2017 · 04/09/2019 09:21

I wonder how many people will change their minds when they see their MP posts going AWOL.
May lost her majority, 21 will be selected.
People will vote party not people...

You could be handing Boris a mandate to do what ever he likes, be careful what you wish for.

ContinuityError · 04/09/2019 09:45

Well let’s go No Deal and have a GE in January, when shortages and job losses over Christmas have bitten and the Brexit Party will have lost its raison d’Γͺtre.

Let’s see Johnson own his shit then.

mummmy2017 · 04/09/2019 09:52

ContinuityError
Yes please.

ContinuityError · 04/09/2019 09:58

be careful what you wish for

Right back atcha.

TheSultanofPingu · 04/09/2019 10:08

Are you actually saying yes please to shortages and job losses mummy17?
Crikey!

lalag · 04/09/2019 12:57

*@ContinuityError Because that one was of the agreements that Cameron negotiated in 2015.

If any general EU funds that the UK had paid into were used for bail outs, then the UK would be recompensed.

Brexiters like to crow that Cameron completely failed in 2015, but fail themselves to comprehend the significance of what he did achieve.*

So you agree, that UK taxpayers money was used to bailout a Eurozone member, glad we agree on that.

Actually, an agreement was drawn up under the Cameron government in 2010 to say UK contributions would never be used to bailout a Eurozone country, the EU reneged on that and positioned it as 'we can use those funds but we'll agree to pay out in the event of a default'. Which, you quite rightly point out, Cameron helped to negotiate in 2015.

lalag · 04/09/2019 12:58

Bloody Mumsnet app! Here's my reply separate to your post:

Can you back this up with a source please? I'd be interested to read the details.

And, if true that the EU will bail us out, why is everyone so frightened of a No Deal then if we're going to get a massive cash injection and help from the EU?

AuldAlliance · 04/09/2019 13:02

Because most sane people realise this is a deluded pipe dream that only morons like BJ, Cummings and others could possibly entertain for more than half a second...
