I heard so many people say things like

"I am going to vote leave but not because I want to Leave the EU. I just think the establishment needs a good kicking."

That's my issue with the so-called "democratic vote". Nobody campaigned for Crashing out, so that wasn't voted for. Plenty of people cited things like 'anti-establishment' as their vote reason, rather than anything about EU membership.

Who in 2016 who marked Leave, knew they were voting for the situation we have now?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 29/08/2019 22:48

Nobody campaigned for Crashing out

Oh what a shame. No one campaigned to ignore the referendum either. Better to ignore the referendum and leave, or force us to stay in the EU against our will?

Remoaners dont give a c**p about democracy.

Autumnintheair · 29/08/2019 22:50

Ragged I never thought it would be easy, history shows us no big change is easy.
I expected negotiations, too and fro.
Angst... But I truly thought that pretty soon after the vote Parliament would come together as cross party cabinet to purely get us into the strongest position possible to negotiate with the eu on the same page. As the sensible, pragmatic response to the vote.
I never thought Parliament would float away on its own away from its anchor. The people. I never dreamed we would endure 3 years of reality of the outcome sinking in, 3 years of deliberate procrastination and obfuscation.

This is what our own parliament can do in our country, one of the leading democracys in the world.
It sharply focused my mind that's its even more important to remove the eu from our politics.

friendlycat · 29/08/2019 22:54

I still haven’t heard anything remotely sensible or intelligent from these β€œbrexiteers”. God help us all who employ people and run companies in amongst this chaos. My tax revenues are going down so are others so the effect will be felt but it will take time.

Autumnintheair · 29/08/2019 22:59

Friendly, there are non so blind as those who refuse to see.

friendlycat · 29/08/2019 23:18

Autumnintheair .... it’s not about ideology and refusing to see. It’s hard, cold economic facts as a business owner. Even somebody as vocal as Tim Martin still wants free movement of people as his business model doesn’t work without it. However he constantly promotes Brexit as does the wonderful hypocrite Rees Mogg. I wouldn’t mind as much if there was some honesty from those promoting this shit storm that’s cost me hundreds of thousands already in the downturn.

Gottastopspendingmoney · 29/08/2019 23:45

@Autumnintheair please correct me if I am wrong but I don't think parliament had much say in the WA discussions?

I think that was mainly managed by Teresa May?

When did she try and get a consensus - before she eventually brought back her deal?

I don't disagree with you at all that parliament should have worked together in the early days to get a consensus for the type of Brexit that we wanted. I was shocked and disappointed that it didn't happen.

I do blame parliament for triggering article 50 without a plan. But surely the government had a plan when they called the referendum?

We can simply not prorogue parliament and force through a Brexit that has no mandate whatsoever by a minority conservative government when it is incompetence from consecutive Tory govts that have led us to this point.

It is shameful, undemocratic and I am terrified where this is going to lead.

ReginaldMolehusband · 30/08/2019 00:09

Looks like a swift pint's out the window, there's more than one pub bore chuntering on. Anyhoo, doubles all round when Bear starts a new Brexit thread, I'm on the bell. Chin chin 🍻

RuggerHug · 30/08/2019 00:18

Christ Mummy do you have ANY idea or concept of NI???

PotatoShape · 30/08/2019 06:39

62 days to go πŸ˜†πŸΎ

bellinisurge · 30/08/2019 07:12

If you don't like the pub bores and their pesky questions, you can ignore them and carry on in your increasingly small corner.
It is a Brexiteer trick to say anyone who is against No Deal wants to stop Brexit. I don't want to stop Brexit, I want to stop No Deal.
Chin chin. I can always go back to my alcohol stash.

PotatoShape · 30/08/2019 07:24

bellinisurge, the day before the vote came in, I spent a few hours preparing for it to be remain. I decided I would mentally transition into a remainer, and find a way to make the vote work for me. Some of my friends placed bets so that if it came out as not their choice, they had a 'win' from it and could make their peace.
I honestly suggest you try and find a way to live with this, it's happening.
We are not your enemy.

Gottastopspendingmoney · 30/08/2019 07:32

potato have you been reading what bellini has said?

tomtom1999xx · 30/08/2019 07:45

I agree. It’s no longer about stopping brexit, as Ieven the most die hard remainers know that’s not possible. It’s about not crashing out without a deal now.

Oh, and my new passport arrived a few days ago. No longer says β€˜European Union’ on it, & we haven’t even officially left yet!

PotatoShape · 30/08/2019 07:59

Gottastopspendingmoney, yes, ive read what's been posted. But really, if leavers were interested in being given the third degree, we'd post on the westminstenders threads.
Some do. I don't.
If this was a thread about enjoying the weather, I wouldn't post demands for isobars, dew-point temperatures or jet streams, and if the posters couldn't answer tell the, they are idiots and they need to stop enjoying the weather.

Gottastopspendingmoney · 30/08/2019 08:07

Bellini

It is a Brexiteer trick to say anyone who is against No Deal wants to stop Brexit. I don't want to stop Brexit, I want to stop No Deal.

If I remember correctly she was also a strong supporter of May's deal as a compromise.

Yeah you have been reading!!

GrimalkinsCrone · 30/08/2019 08:11

I was looking forward to sitting quietly in the corner, sipping my pint and listening to Leavers talk without interrupting.
I’m a Remainer, as are most of the people I know IRL, so I want to listen to how Leavers view what has happened and what is to come. But if opposition keeps chipping in, I won’t find out as it will just dissolve into attack/defence. Rather than unguarded chat.
I hope your pub continues.

bellinisurge · 30/08/2019 08:12

@PotatoShape , I'm a general prepper. I'm ready. I also have the right to an Irish passport. As does my dh and dd. I could quite easily say " I'm alright, Jack" and not give a shit about how this goes. But I want to do my best to warn people about the dangers of No Deal (not against an orderly Brexit) and give advice to people on here about taking sensible proportionate budget friendly steps to build some resilience into their homes for WHEN things get bumpy. Bumpy may be short or long lasting but even tbe minister in charge of No Deal planning says "bumpy".
Given the reaction of some people on here recently about a shortage of ice lollies in supermarkets in the heatwave, I am not optimistic that people will be sanguine about "bumpiness".
So you can call me a Remoaner and all that other tedious crap as much as you like if it helps the gin go down smoothly.
I would be more than thrilled with egg on my face over this. That would be the best result. Would you?

PotatoShape · 30/08/2019 08:18

@bellinisurge , there is a preppers section. And a few threads about specific brexit prepping. Those who want to hear your warnings can go there.
Posting here, after being asked that this space be for leave chat, is obviously just for you to offload your anger at leavers.

tomtom1999xx · 30/08/2019 08:23

bellinisurge I must admit you’re all over almost every brexit thread on Mumsnet.
Please give it a rest.

PotatoShape · 30/08/2019 08:28

On Halloween, I shall view the ghosts and zombies as a metaphor for the dead, old ways leaving us. I might dress up as a unicorn πŸ˜‚

bellinisurge · 30/08/2019 09:12

@tomtom1999xx that would be no.
Be as cheery and jolly as you like, but please consider getting a buffer of food etc in for the bumpy bits. I don't care how you voted . I just want people to avoid problems during the bumpy bits where they can and stay the fuck out of the way so that focus can be on people who need help with unavoidable problems.
You will know that the government is actually serious about No Deal when it gives you advice to do this as your "patriotic duty". Until then, it's just willy waving. Which the Brexit Arms will enjoy "helping ".

Miljah · 30/08/2019 09:15

bellinisurge keep up the good work.

bellinisurge · 30/08/2019 09:19

@PotatoShape will you wear your pretty outfit if we leave with WA 2.0 or will you be weeping in your gin because it won't be a perfect Brexit?
Me, I'll be in Ireland but WA 2.0 which protects GFA will be fiiiiiine with me.

Dapplegrey · 30/08/2019 10:31

I realise that the Brexit Arms must accept all views but it would be nice if it could avoid what happens on all other Brexit threads - namely Bellini, Peregrina and co discussing leavers between themselves in the most disparaging and scornful terms which I think is pretty unpleasant. Why not address the post with whom you disagree directly?
