Brexit

Arbitration needed!

bellin and I have had this argument many times and both think we’re right so I’m looking for arbitration! 😂

I think NI becoming a special economic zone won’t happen because the Tories won’t put it to a vote as they’d lose the support of the DUP and thus their working majority

bellini thinks the Tories would be prepared to put this to the vote because stopping no deal is more important than anything else

Who’s right?

Why are you all so certain that Scotland would vote for independence and, if it did, why shouldn't it?

Look, i don't dismiss your plan out of hand but even if it were the solution to ending poverty and bringing about world peace, but under this Govt it is not going to happen.

I don't care if Scotland leaves the union, who can blame them? but Johnson isn't going to facilitate it, UNLESS there is an advantage for that x.x.x.x

bellinisurge · 27/08/2019 19:35

And you refusal to let Scotland decide what it would want for itself is because .....?
Scotland is not a conquered nation. It chose to unite with England. It can "unchoose".

Bearbehind · 27/08/2019 19:40

And you refusal to let Scotland decide what it would want for itself is because .....?

No one is refusing to let them decide.

If I was Scottish I’d vote out.

We’re just staying this government isn’t going to hand that to them on a plate because it means losing power.

I agree with Bellini that a NI only backstop is the only solution as this probably is the only proposal that the EU will agree to. Boris will ditch the DUP and rely on the support of MPs who want to avoid the chaos of no deal and the realities of 'Operation Yellowhammer'. A GE will quickly be called with Boris the hero riding high on having delivered the Brexit unicorn.

bellinisurge · 27/08/2019 19:42

Careful @BackInTime , you are a crazed fantasist daring to suggest such a thing 😂😂😂

back how does Boris retain a majority in that situation?

He does what TM couldn't do - he delivers Brexit.

Bearbehind · 27/08/2019 20:00

It’s not good enough. I don’t see how he can get the numbers with a Brexit involving the WA. Especially if he’s alienated Scotland

Brexit screws the economy, all these people saying "we won WW2 we will cope" will not be saying that or voting Con when they lose their houses.

I m all for Scotland leaving the UK, why not? i thought i made that clear but BJ will not give the Scotts the opportunity,

Peregrina · 27/08/2019 20:19

jasjas - we don't know how they will behave but I predict that it will be ugly.

bellinisurge · 27/08/2019 20:24

With Corbyn led Labour being so shite, he could certainly get the numbers in Leave constituencies, especially if he has delivered Brexit. He's out Faridged Faridge with all his populist shite.

Peregrina · 27/08/2019 20:28

Part of me wants the economy to be screwed so that the brexiters can learn just what they have wished upon themselves. I will forgive those who were naive enough to think they were voting for the NHS. But then I think that it's wrong to wish for ill fortune.

jasjas1973 · 27/08/2019 20:36

What i mean is, that it is by no means certain BJ will do well in any election.
Food and Med supply issues will doubtless cause localised riots.

Not a single part of me wishes harm to the UK or anyone in it, i want the best the best for my country, we all should or we are no better than people like Johnson, farage or Robinson

Which i why i do not support brexit in any shape or form.

mummmy2017 · 27/08/2019 20:39

Your both wrong,
We are coming out with no deal.
We won't pay the Billions either, the EU will try to back pedal.
Boris knows he has loads of support for just going it alone from the UK public, you don't see this because you hate the idea and think everyone else only thinks like your small group of RL contacts.

bellinisurge · 27/08/2019 20:41

@mummmy2017 , I live in a Leave area. Most of my rl contacts are Northern working class Leavers.

BackInTime · 27/08/2019 20:42

@Bearbehind TBH I've lost track of what the numbers were previously so no idea what they might be now. I'm just thinking that Boris has made so much noise about leaving on 31/10 deal or no deal that MPs will take him seriously enough to think supporting a deal with a NI only backstop is the least worst option.

mummmy2017 · 27/08/2019 20:45

I'm in the Midlands, most people just want us to leave, they feel the line in the sea is stupid, you can't force part of a country to do this, otherwise the EU would have done this to the whole of Ireland.

jasjas1973 · 27/08/2019 21:02

Mummy Leave voting Cornwall here, everyone without exception is sick to death with brexit, they don't give a fuck whether we leave or stay.... even my local brexitier MP doesn't mention the EU any more and neither does anyone else.

You have an equally self selecting sample as we have, Birds of a feather flock together!

i'll bet you £50 to your local hospice if we don't leave on 31/1 and vice versa if we do.

jasjas1973 · 27/08/2019 21:02

31/10 obviously

prettybird · 27/08/2019 21:50

Funny how the DUP was happy enough for NI to have a phyto-sanitory border in the Irish Sea during the Foot & Mouth crisis which meant that its cattle didn't need to be slaughtered Hmm

Hypocrites Angry

MysteryTripAgain · 28/08/2019 04:48

Part of me wants the economy to be screwed so that the brexiters can learn just what they have wished upon themselves

A screwed economy affects everyone regardless of how they voted.

MysteryTripAgain · 28/08/2019 05:44

A few more posts and this thread will exceed the one that Bear and Bellini were arguing about. Hahahaha.

ragged · 28/08/2019 06:23

I reckon MPs will get some legislation thru to outlaw Crashing out (start September 2019).

BJ will respond by calling an election. Coz he genuinely thinks he can talk his way out of any problem into success. He enjoys the challenge. Running on an explicit promoting No Deal platform.

What happens next... who knows. Another hung Parliament with Tories as largest party is very possible, though. Next most likely outcome is a small No Deal majority (who will repeal the September 2019 legislation banning no deal). 3rd most likely is a small Labour majority who will swiftly (and as successfully as possible) negotiate a soft Brexit.

Those events would sideline BBd & Bellin's argument.

Brexit fallout will go on for another Decade (minimum).

Bearbehind · 28/08/2019 07:02

Those events would sideline BBd & Bellin's argument.

Indeed

I’ve still seen nothing that convinces me the Tories are ever going to go for the NI option - it just doesn’t stack up for them

All roads still point to no deal or dragging it out endlessly with the threat of no deal always on the horizon
