Johnson likes publicity.

Any attention is good attention. Whilst you are talking about how crazy his idea is, the less you come up with your own.

And there it is. The lack of plan to stop no deal. Just a bunch of idiots who argue over who is more right about politics without offering up a practical solution.

Unable to see their own flaws.

And leading us ever closer to the cliff edge and operation Yellowhammer.

We are so not in 2017 born.

Johnson is storming it with his and the farage base, especially with the FOM ban this week. He's a brilliant campaigner; they both are. They are sending out clever and disingenuous targetted ads on FB. (UK Prime Minister@10downingstreet) Government ads which are really Tory/BP campaigning ones.

Unless anti tory/bp unite now, we've had it. They'll get a massive majority and a johnson/farage gov.

too many Remain wonks are unjustifiably blasé about stopping No Deal

This assumes that remain wonks think that the only side which can stop no deal is the remain side.

It assumes that Blowjob wants to be in charge as we go over the cliff.

I don't think that is true.

The wee devil on my shoulder, which I keep on slapping down, keeps whispering, "Fuck them, make them feel the pain of a No Deal Brexit." Blush

Its sibling, on the same shoulder, is whispering, "Let them do it, it's the quickest way to Scottish Independence" Wink

But the more sensible angel on the other shoulder is saying, "It's not fair on the poorest and most vulnerable" Grin - so I will keep protesting against a No Deal Brexit.

I was at a talk on Monday from an SNP MSP (not one I'd ever heard of: Tom Arthur) who was making the point that at the moment, the SNP don't need to make the case for Independence; Westminster is doing it for us Grin (The old, If your enemy is making a mistake, leave him to it Wink). He was saying tempting as it is to want to rush at it, taking the slow approach and keeping on pushing for the Section 30 notice, is the way to go however impatient some SNP supporters are Grin

Based on what, pray tell ?

You’d have to ask Jon Worth, they’re his numbers: mobile.twitter.com/jonworth/status/1163906998863302657/photo/1
Although he has now updated the diagram and it’s now 26% and he has upped the chance of no deal to 18% from 6%.

prettybird · 21/08/2019 15:53

Mother - I would ignore that Kantar poll that suggested the Conservative surge. The numbers are so low that it is almost definitely an incorrect outliers. The YouGov poll, although it might, if spread evenly (hmm]) result in a Conservative majority, had the Conservatives going backwards (also Labour and the LibDems, with only the Greens going up Confused) I'll believe outliers when they are a result of large numbers polled or a constituency by constituency basis - like the specialist YouGov polls before the 2017 election.

HesterThrale · 21/08/2019 15:56

BCF I agree the chances of No Deal are higher than 18%.

Unscientific but interesting, Paddy Power has No Deal at 13/10. Which I suppose means more than half a chance.

DGRossetti · 21/08/2019 16:13

As has been tireless pointed out, no deal is the default. No one has to do anything for it to happen. Which is why it's going to happen. It's Theresa Mays final "fuck you" to the British people and one of the reasons she actually went. She'd played her part and laid that down right from the outset.

If I drop a rock off a cliff, the default outcome is it will hit the ground. We can all invent and imagine scenarios involving air-sea rescue, deploying safety nets along the cliff, rock climbers, Keir Starmer and investigating whether Newton really had it figured. But that rock is still falling, and still going to hit the ground.

And like a rock, falling to earth under gravity, Brexit is accelerating towards no deal. And anyone with a basic grasp of physics (so not many then) would know that the greater the force an object is under, the greater the force needed to stop it.

And for those who like depth to their analogies, like an object increasing speed towards a sudden stop being more likely to disintegrate with the forces involved, so the closer the UK gets to no deal, the greater the risks of it disintegrating.

DGRossetti · 21/08/2019 16:14

I am very nervous about this tory surge in the polls? Who are these people that think no deal/BlowJob is a good idea?

Well reported Tory surge ...

ListeningQuietly · 21/08/2019 16:26

Re the Revoke petition :
Tom Watson's constituency is in the LOWEST band for signing
as are Ed Milliband, Yvette Cooper and other Labour remainers

before rubbing hands at the Brexiters who are not supported by their constituencies, remember both sides

I'm not going to vote Labour for many reasons. Many of the reasons are from before the referendum. Many have nothing to do with Brexit. I also blame Corbyn for large parts of the reason we are in this mess. Plus I don't trust him to campaign properly for a new referendum. He didn't bother to campaign properly for remain in the first place.

tobee · 21/08/2019 16:38

Plus too little too late from Corbyn at best.

tobee · 21/08/2019 16:39

Lots of bot activity currently on Twitter, busy for Johnson.

Straight out of the Cummings playbook?

Chris Furlong @SocialistChris

The latest @BorisJohnson tweet got thousands of retweets & likes within an hour. However, when you check the accounts retweeting/liking it,many have no or very few followers, never tweeted themselves, brand new accounts. Who is paying for the many thousands in The Boris Bot Army?

Hazardtired · 21/08/2019 16:43

Ent it a bit sad/pathetic buying likes and retweets? We all know it happens now and just makes the "beneficiary" look insecure.

Worked for the trump and it worked for the brexit. It will work again.

woman19 · 21/08/2019 16:49

@J_amesp
Unless you are Boris Johnson the last thing you want any time soon is a general election.

Songsofexperience · 21/08/2019 16:49

Though I think many have now wised up to it so not sure how credible it is among the wider population.
It's just another tool. Works best if thought genuine.

Songsofexperience · 21/08/2019 16:51

I have to say, I have a pretty bad feeling about this G7.
I'm not superstitious in any way but I'm worried it'll go pear shaped.

DGRossetti · 21/08/2019 16:54

I wonder if - given that I certainly have very little time for Twitter and Facebook - there will come a point at which the tech giants themselves step in, having realised that far from attracting punters, the ongoing political shenanigans drive users away ?

tobee · 21/08/2019 16:56

Lots of people aren't wise though Songs.
